In terms of power for Insanity
1) Soldier and Sentinel, 1st equal,I think the soldier starts stronger though, Sentinel needs a few levels to become broken but does quite quickly become very difficult to kill. Soldier has unmatched damage, good survivability and virtually never has to risk looking for ammo.
3) Engineer, you can play very cautiously and virtually never die, Drone is really powerful and it's a fast starting class which you can get tech duration cooldown upgrade very early. It would slightly weaker without the Kasumi DLC.
4) Infiltrator, good at long range and a solid get out of trouble power when things close. Doesn't have quite the same power to handle any situation as the classes above but at the same time certain encounters as very easy. Can have ammo shortages.
5) Adept, you can still very easily complete the game on insanity with the adept. A lot of the skills do overlap. Key is making sure that any enemies that close on you are defenceless. Stasis may have powered this class up quite a bit, just what it needed and having that option is more important than energy drain or warp ammo IMO. I haven't played through with that yet so can't say for certain.
6) I am aware that a lot of people think these are great, and I have completed the game on insanity with one, but I probably died about 20-30 times which is much, much higher than normal. Powerful, but only if you play in a rsiky manner.

In terms of fun, well all of them are fun and well designed IMO
1 Adept - combining powers and tossing things around is fun, and good level of challenge with it
2 Sentinel - you can use cover less and not die
3 Engineer - good variety of powers
4 + 5= Soldier, Infiltrator, having option to snipe is fun, they do get a little repetitive. Shooting from adrenaline rush all the time gets old, infiltrator sometimes feels like you are playing one big exploit.
6 Vanguard - it is satisfying when it works, frustrating when it doesn't. "Cant reach the target" drops it right down the list.

1. Vanguard- Its just fun, and powerful too

2. Infiltrator-Fairly useful class on both games, and well-balanced

3. Sentinel-Good in ME1 because your squadmates could actually do something. Good in ME2 because it isn't pathetic in a straight up fight anymore

4. Soldier-Widow sniping with adrenaline rush is just fun, and this is a good class for higher difficulties

5. Adept-Not too useful the way I play in ME1, but does pretty well in ME2 when equppied with the right weapons

6. Engineer-I found it boring in both ME1 and ME2. Great at stripping defenses and such, amazing on insanity, but still a very boring class to me

1. Soldier- Near and dear to my heart. So many options on ammo and the frickin' Revenant.

2. Vanguard- I love close quarters in ME 2 and charging across the map into enemies with my Eviserator is awesome.

3. Infiltrator- After my first Insanity run with an Infiltrator I thought it was boring. Then I discovered the CQC Infiltrator. Now I'm a believer.

4. Adept- LOVE Adepts on Insanity. Going with an all biotic squad with group pulls and throws and singularity is a thing of absolute beauty.

5. Sentinel- Didn't really get into the Sentinel. Honestly, it felt like easy mode to me with tech armor. I like the tech/biotic combo but still, not for me.

6. Engineer- I know a few people like this class. To me it was absurdly boring. I don't like cautious play and the Engineer screams support to me.

I am probably the exception, but I have no preference except that I don't like the soldier class. Most levels are too small for the weapons ranges to have impact. The sniper riffle is the one I rarely use. Most weapons feel pretty much the same, with a few exceptions. I like to rely on biotic and/or tech powers. I ended up as a tactical player. Luring out enemies one by one. I only use weapons when there is no way out. I like the geth plasma shotgun in those situations where enemies come too close. So, soldier would be the last on the list and all other classes would share the number one position.
