Hello fellow Mass Effect lovers.

I have just completed my first Insanity run with my Soldier which was surprisingly easy and I've decided to have another go with a different class.

I'm trying to decide between the Sentinel, Vanguard and Adept as they all look very interesting. Any constructive advice would be great.

Thanks

Adept plays very differently on Insanity, and Vamguard can be tricky untill you sort yourself out.

Safest bet is Sentinel, my fav is Vanguard.

Can't really say much in regards to the Sentinel, but rather enjoyed Vanguard and Adept. The Vanguard will be a bit closer in style to the Soldier, only with Charge versus Adrenaline Rush. You're still depending on straightforward combat to get the job done. The Adept, however, will be a significant change in style from the Soldier. I think you'll have more of a learning curve with the Adept on Insanity. If you played an Adept on a lower difficulty, you'll find that a lot of the biotic powers need a bit more finesse to use them effectively.

So Vanguard if you're not looking to step too far off the mark from a Soldier. Adept if you're looking for a truly different experience. Sentinel probably fits somewhere in between with a lot more versatility with attacks for Armor, Barriers, and Shields.

Agreed. Vanguard is fun. A bit of a learning curve, but so much fun afterwards. Sentinel playing aggressively with a shotgun is great too. I tend to play both classes with the same strategy, go in peoples faces and use your shotgun and elbow. Vanguard is more straightforward and aggressive while sentinel is better at defense. Adept is a totally different story, it is also very fun, but you cast powers a LOT and combo them with squadmates for more boom. I find it harder to push forward with the adept, but throwing black holes out of your hands and exploding people mid-air is fresh and entertaining.

Go Adept for a completly different experience. Then start a new playthrough(s) and try other classes as well! I very much enjoy all classes you mentioned.

The cool thing about the sentinel is that you can switch your style up half way through the game if you want. I started the game as an assault sentinel, casting assault armor and getting up close and personal kills. After the collector ship I picked up the mattock and switched to power armor and became a warp bomb specialist caster sentinel. I could have also picked up the shotgun instead and continued down the assault armor in your face path. The sentinel gives you options.

If you played a long range Soldier, the Adept is going to be closer to home than the Vanguard. The Sentinel is great practice before playing a Vanguard run, as Sentinels are extraordinarily resilient and handle close combat quite well.

My experience as well.

I'd say that if you want something completely different, go with Adept. But if you want something to ease yourself into and start the path to the other classes, then Sentinel is your best choice.

I have decided to try the Sentinel.

Any suggestions on builds and their orders?

Thanks

The Sentinel is so versatile it's hard to suggest a build or playstyle.

I like to max out Warp fairly early.  It helps with some of the difficulty thresholds in the game (Collector missions).

For Assault Sentinel, always max Tech Armor and get Guardian spec asap.

First I would suggest looking over the stick right at the top of the forum for strategy guides.  Included among the links are discussions of various Sentinel builds and even some videos.

For a quick rundown of what I've seen around here:

Shotgun Sentinel
4 Assault Armor
4 Guardian
The rest, whatever you want.  Some compliment that with Heavy Warp, Area Drain, and Throw (Heavy or Field).  Others with Area Overload, Area Reave, and then either Full Cryo Blast or Throw (Heavy or Field).  Some take Heavy Warp Ammo as a bonus, and then respec between missions depending on what they feel they will need between Heavy Warp and Area Overload.

Warpbomber
4 Heavy Warp
4 Power Armor
4 Guardian
The rest again, whatever you want.  This one bring Samara and Jack along to Pull enemies, after you shoot off their defenses, so Shepard can Warp-detonate them.  Jack also provides Squad Warp Ammo.  A good choice for the other skills is Area Drain and Throw (Heavy or Field).  For bonus weapon, you'll probably want assault rifles.

Def-Stripper
4 Power Armor
4 Area Overload
4 Raider
4 Area Reave
The last skill is between max Throw or Cryo Blast.  This Sentinel has the most hard hitting AoE defense stripping abilities, leaving enemies free to be killed by bullets or toyed with via squadmate abilities.  For bonus weapon, you'll want either assault rifles or sniper rifles.

...and many more variations.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'm going to make a character with each class to see which I prefer. So many build variations...

I was reading the sticky you suggested and I have been watching various videos. The Adept and the Vanguard especially look very powerfull... in the right hands.

Thanks

even I played this game many times, when it comes to insanity level, I die many times. even I sometimes died in very first mission. insanity is still insane. but for achievement is something worthy.

I went Assault Sentinel, however ditched Overload in favor of Energy Drain. I missed out on Cryo Blast but I can live without that :) Charging at people, and using their shields to power your own never gets old, especially when you get to them and give them a face full of shotgun.

This is my jack of all trades sentinel:

Level 15:

Throw 2
Warp 3
Assault armor 4
Guardian 4
Cryo 0
Overload 0
Energy drain 1

Level 30:
Throw 4
warp 4
Assault armor 4
Guardian 4
overload 1
Energy drain 4

for reaper IFF and collector, switch out ED for reave, tubgsten ammo, dominate, or neural shcok. Some people like flashbang, but I suck at aiming.

I picked up the Viper on the Collector sip, but Mattock is fine too. After that you can hang back and play caster since you have more powers. I never respecced to power armor. The 15% power damage bonus wasn't worth loosing the redudancy of the shield backup. I use the Blood Dragon armor because it hides my hideous renegade face. Yet people still recognize me on sight!

This is also the build I'm running with as a sentinel, except with the geth plasma shotgun instead. Scimitar worked fine for me before the firepower pack, but I know most people preferred the eviscerator as far as non firepower pack shotgun goes. Shotguns just really make the assault sentinel come to life imo.

I seem to be getting my ass handed to me as a Sentinel. The main problem being that I can't take them down fast enough in certain areas. I end up getting overwhelmed.

Any tips would be great.

Sentinel with power (or assault.. my preferred) armor requires no other powers basically... save your cooldown for strictly assault armor (or power) and hit it whenever your shields drop.. sentinel on insanity is near unkillable like this... this gets boring though because it's a) repetitive B) too easy.

When I play sentinel I tend to max overload to deal with shielded enemies / synthetics.. and warp.. for armor / barriers / health.... as well as maxing to either assault or power armor. The only key to learn is leave a gap / time to trigger your power armor if it drops under heavy fire... you'll use warp and overload more sparingly compared to other classes since you're saving that slow recharge for your power armor skill.
