RWS cliffs should certainly get put in a hak for this project though, so they can be used for regular maps.
I've done some large cavern maps for my campaign by using open cave tiles with no ceiling. Then I place rockfaces to define the walking area. (quite similar in concept to the first screenshot from the RWS cliffs vault entry). Using the large scale placeables with open roofless tiles, you can do very good things without having to use an exterior.
A rough I did for Eguintir, a druid's house in the trunk of a giant tree.

I've seen that pic full size, but you should make it clickable to full size. So you know, people can drool and stuff.Hellfire_RWS wrote...

That is, incidentally, an example of the open tiles areas I was talking about in the previous post, and why the RWS cliffs should be in any hak for this project. It would be easy enough to rebuild a section or section of the UM with them, allowing them to represent a different composition of local rock to delineate an area.

Right click. View Image.
If you're a modeler, make sure there's no firearms or bottles of sleeping pills nearbye.
Damn.

Nevertheless, I have a 1-2 quick little side quests in mind that could work for the Underdark as well if we need more locations to fill the overland map. What level range should I aim for?

Hey azzzzen! Did you end up doing anything in DA or just taking a well earned break from mod life?
Too time consuming!

That said, if you have an Underdark idea in mind, go for it.

I actually have a few ideas for non-Underdark additions to SoZ from last time 'round, but nothing more than the odd half-done area I was messing around with. Somewhere for the northern jungle bit of Samarach would be good, I think, since it's quite sparsely populated compared with the rest of the OMs. A UM would be a nice change, though. Not my first choice of setting, but it would open up some interesting options.

The Presidents areas are good, they still need work cleaning up and populating which for me is the beauty of them. I have used two to date.
Not sure the underdark has too many eroded hills and valleys though.
What is the timescale for this project, another Christmas project perhaps?

The Underdark, as any underground area, would be the result of erosion from underground water, earthquake, and lava. So, yeah it would be heavily eroded and terraced.
Possibly so, but perhaps with a little less grass
