I wish this were not so. I like huge games that take forever to beat.

So, 50 hours instead of 60? Fine by me.

We knew this already. We really, really did.

DA2 is 20-30 hours by some reckonings, but some people claim they got 100 hours out of DAO, some people can do it in twenty, or twelve.

20-30 according to some random gaming magazine.

DA2 is 20-30 hours by whose reckonings?  It is doubtful anyone other than an empoyee has played the "whole" game if it is even developed that far and unlikely they would kiss and tell.  What are you citing exactly?

It's shorter than Origins. It's also not longer than Origins. I don't think there's really much there to take issue with until we get a good idea of how much shorter it actually is.

He didn't really say how much shorter it would be but if it is as you say than that wouldn't become an issue for me. Also, did you see the gameplay on the ustream?

One of the things that seemed a bit weird was that characters seemed to be able to perform inhuman abilities. They are able to run to fast, move to fast, and jump too high. This could be Varric's exaggeration but I think that they should slow things down a bit.

My first DA:O playthrough was 39 hours; I'll probably hit 45 to 50 on the one I'm doing now, since I'm wanting to as much of the content as possible this time. Hearing that DA2 will be shorter (relatively speaking) is good news.

As often mentioned... Origin had long grinding parts without too much content. Depending on what quality DA 2 has I won't miss many hours DAO had to offer.

100 hours for those who like to take their time to a vast UNNCESSARY extent. 20 hours for those who skip through most of the side quest and 30 hours for those who do a the side quest wihle avoiding taking their time unnecessarily. I fall into the last category so DA2 will probably be like playing the first DA without Orzammar and the Fade being in the game.../../../images/forum/emoticons/unsure.png

There's no grinding in Origins unless you decide to take advantage of the Oscagar bug.

Okay, grinding may be the wrong word, but deep roads, elven ruins, quest for the urn once you are in the temple, finale and Ostagar tower are nothing but killing tons of enemies. How many hours of "pointless" combat are those? Don't get me wrong I enjoyed it to some extend. I really did, but that's the reason why I can't get myself to replay the game at the moment.

The fade... good god the fade. How much time did I sink in that horrible place?

i finished Origins in 14~ hours. I didn't do the boring/uninspired collection or side quests.

DA2 won't have those, and thank goodness.

I remember the IGN article said it was similar in length to Mass Effect 2. Mass Effect 2 lasted from 20 to 30 hours for most people, while those simply trying to burn through content as fast as possible claimed it took ten hours.

Running the gauntlet(s) would be a slightly more apt description, I think. If you make it to the other end, you got to go on with the plot. If not, back to the beginning (or the last save) to try again.

I'd rather enjoy an awesome experience that doesn't overstay it's welcome. I hate Deep Roads / Fade and that itself, when removed, cuts a lot of fat from DA:O.

Why do all you people hate the deep roads and the fade? Cuz you have to actually fight things and explore. Playing to that standard why not cut out all player control and just go through all of the dialogue to create your own movie?

What's wrong with it being long? It's a big ass area. And the fade....in fact the whole mage tower part of the game is quite short. I thought exploring big areas was fun but I suppose gamers have changed over the years.
