You know, I've recently been playing through Deus Ex for the third time in about nine or ten years, and as I play it, I just think about how long this game is, and then I lament the length of games nowadays. Older games just seem a lot longer than these new "next-gen" ones. It's not just RPGs like Deus Ex and, well KOTOR is probably a better example, but FPS like Halo:CE/2, and tactical games like Metal Gear Solid.
For example: if you play Halo 3 on the hardest difficulty, then go back and play one of the earlier installments on the hardest difficulty, you'll realize what a joke Halo 3's campaign is. If you cut through all the verbal diarrhea in MGS4, then go back and play MGS or Snake Eater, then you'll realize that there's not that much gameplay experience in relation to "movie" experience. KOTOR was longer than Dragon Age, and about (if not longer) as long as both of the Mass Effects combined.
So I guess what my rant is getting at is, is that there is a certain point where one must say to themselves, "What am I really getting out of this $60+ product?" For a lot of games out there, it's all flair and little substance, and you'll most likely end up wasting 60 hard earned dollars on an 8 hour single playthrough. I still have faith in Bioware and Dragon Age, but the time span trend of modern games makes me wary as well.
