Or you said: Great game! Pity I had to suffer through that BG1. I mean I don't need a aprt of the game to be horrible to make me appreciate the rest. I will take awesome all the way any time.
I know man, if I can't be frickin AWESOME! all day and just pop collars, mash x and see AWESOME KILL/FRAGS the it's a **** game

Bro
First: speak english.
Second: If I can get what you are saying (doubt it) that sounds like an horrible game. Good thing DA2 is not shaping like that.
You want a game that puts you unthinkingly into the role of a straight out badass so you can press the X button repeatedly maybe Y occasionally and act all badass, killing darkspawn and ogres like they aint no thing.

You're gonna love DA2
Lucky me I play on the PC so I get auto attack. Lucky me the difficulty level stays the same. Lucky me my characters actually act when I command them, instead of kind of jiggling around.

Also, fun fact: auto-attack isn't fully implemented in consoles. So your 'mash x and see awesome kill' thing just sort of goes into 'fails logic forever' territory, concerning DA2. You know, since the combat is pretty much the same on PC while the console is different and responds to the console's strengths, rather than it's weaknesses...

I could probably go on for an hour naming off these things. But reasoning hath no place in a silly man's head, no? Irregardless, I give you a link. Iz gift.

In BG I melees were *all* about auto attack :D, enemies were pretty plain as well (unlike BG II where you had mind flayers, trolls, vampires, golems), isn't that just awesome?

Cardboard characters ... The city of Baldur's gate with its endless boring houses .. and the endless repetition of "butt kicking for goodness" and other one liners got dull pretty fast.

So ... nostalgia has turned "Fats" into a bitter old man ... ah the good ole days.

Get off my lawn.

BG1 has classes, yes. I assumed that was quite well known. Or I thought so. Apparently not everyone got the memo. I give you second gift. Iz present.

But in all seriousness..or part...seriousness, BG1 isn't the best game ever. Nor will it ever be. Nor is it a super speshul awesome game, because while it is good, it has been surpassed many times. In fact, it was surpassed by it's sequel, BG2. You know, the one that's generally awesome, and has great characters and stuff? And classes!

...I think my brain lost a few IQ points in this thread.

Proper? well it's a party comprised of an orphan, one weird sister and whatever miscreants you decide to drag along.
Sorry it doesnt have Buffy the ****ing vampire slayer leveld of banal dialogue to keep you entertained but theres business to take care of with the Iron Throne. Shove your one-liners and 1 dimensional romances. BG1 is all about business ****

Did you know they wanted to make BG I mmo? www.massively.com/2010/08/16/baldurs-gate-was-almost-an-mmo/

Your class-rpg is a half-baked mmo, forced to single player mid-way.

As I said in the OP "I don't care what circumstances came about to produce this game"

Thats like arguing if Stephen Hawking raped Angelina Jolie should his brains and beauty still be admired?

By the way. I want to ask; how was that romance with the ripped-off Winged Elf gal? What was her name..began with an A. Oh yeah, Aerie! How was that?

Oh right, one of the worst dialogues in the entire game. Not to mention when you get her 'pregnant' it gets even worse. And sillier. And it starts getting into ridiculous territory.

Let's see..how did you like your Anomen romance? Or your Viconia/whoeverthehellelse romances? I'm suuure they weren't one dimensional, and yes, you may have had crap to do in Iron Throne, but you still took your time.

You know why? The same thing is done in DA: O. and likely DA: 2. There *is* no timer, and maybe if there was, your arguments would have value.

As well, the party interaction is a BIG part of BG1, or did you forget Minsc and Edwin Odesseiron fighting because of Dynaheir? Or was that in BG2? Hrm. I forget, but I do know there is a HUGE part of party interaction..

So..uh..yeah. Funny how everything I see here mentioned, aside from in-party conflicts that lead to a party member's death, is exactly how DA: O planned out. And likely how DA: 2 will pan out, as well. Funny, that.

This is kinda hard to do because there are no one left who is making a classic PC rpg game... Bioware was the last one i know.

Heh. I played Baldur's Gate recently too (and BG2, and the expansions...). I kept being reminded of Dragon Age the whole time, to me it really is a spiritual successor. I think it improves on the formula in lots of ways, and DA2 will continue to do so as well.

But then, I don't really care about the details of the combat system, and while I liked all the fun spells and things in BG, there were so many it just got unwieldy.

Bioware I don't know who
worked on this game or where they are or what manner of fortuitous
circumstances colluded to enable this game to be made but you need to
mine that vein again

Actually, some of the people who worked on BG1 and 2 are the same people working on Dragon Age. Just, you know, FYI...

Really? I though the ones who made the BG series were Obsidian now... At least most of them... I guess i was wrong lol

BG2 owned BG1 big time, yo. Party interactions, consequences, everything was there and made better.

...except for the Aerie romance. That was godawful. But otherwise, much better game overall. Jon Irenicus > Sarevok anyday of the weak as a bad guy, and story wise, it was more than good; it was superb.

Also, do you not remember the party interactions? Because, you know. Those are a huge part of those games. Like..really huge.

You forgot better enemies and their variety, trolls, vampires, golems and also a much much greater variety in landscape. But hey, BG I is like the pyramids.....

I heard news that some employees moved from Black Isle to Bioware and vice versa when they were under interplay.

Also, individuals like Brian Fargo (also known for Fallout) was one of the main developers for Baldur's Gate.

Reverse pyramids sounds like an awesome idea for a level, come to think of it. Though how that would work, I dunno. Besides, uh well 'MAGIC.'

In fact, I could totally picture that happened. Somehow. I don't know, this topic is starting to make my head itch, and my brains swirl.
