thanks for the info Mike. But what about the Qunari in the trailer? Is dual-wielding as a warrior exclusive to them?

Trailer has nothing to do with game mechanics. See the Sacred Ashes trailer for Dragon Age: Origins.

HAHAAAA! YES!!!!! It isn't as bad as it sounds really. This will make the game's replay value very high. Now the classes will feel like just that: classes (and not the same class with tweaks) Do not get me wrong I like DAO and it's system but this is music to my ears. Now each class will feel unique and special. Awesome news indeed!!

As for the whole making things more unique- if thats the intent, then why are we giving mages melee attacks if they're supposed to be the field artillery?

Because holding your staff at your armpit and going "pew pew" is not cool. At least, I sure don't think it is.

No one said that mage melee attacks were particularly good, just that you don't look lame while you do them.

So I'm guessing that the "polearm" in the trailer was a staff then.

Correct because even David Gaider said there are no Polearms in game.

Hm, i can live with that. Since there is only one race/origin for us to play anyway.

I just hope such a change dosnt putt restrictions on armor/weapons for certain class's (unless unique!), i liked my rogue having a heavy armor on in DAO!. =)

After reading Mike Laidlaw's post, I'm guessing heavy armors and rogue talents don't go together in DA2.

More like a Staff-Sword I would say...

In the interest of keeping things unique, I'd wager rogues are limited to medium armor or something so they can stay all ninja like with their stealth and flips. Meh....

Indeed, most of you are right in your suppositions.

Removing dual wield specialization from warriors allowed us to not only make the classes more distinct, but to make the dual wield attacks all distinctly rogue-ish. A warrior in plate mail being fast with two daggers I could handle, but flipping and rolling into attacks? That didn't make sense. So, we could either have boring, vanilla dual-wield anims, or we could make them for rogues and deliver lithe, acrobatic combat for a class that should be just that.

I do understand your point, but that news creates tears on my face. I love the dual wield fighting style, but i honestly dont like daggers. So i was very glad about the fact, that I could cut lines through the darkspawn with my two swords and my plate armour. So my last hope lays on the twohanded style and I hope that you wont disappoint me.

All I have to say is that they better show some gameplay videos of the warrior soon and that is that.

I didn't mind it too much when it actually worked although for some reason my mages would use it over casting even when their mana was full, it lead me to be frustrated when they didn't heal me. :(

Luckily the DA daggers aren't far off from our swords, size-wise Image IPB

Mike, is there a new weapon style tree? Or will there be more weapons to the existing styles? flails? warhammers? halberds? spears?

I think this means....nothing until everything else is revealed and whether or not there is something to compensate.

First bad new I've heard about DA:2. Sebastian Hanlon just confirmed on the live-chat that dual-wielding will be restricted to rogues (I think he said Archery is as well). Goodbye armored eviscerators.:crying:

Well, that sucks, doesn't it? I didn't play a duel wield warrior, but I know a lot of people really enjoyed it. I did use archery a lot, and found it tactically very handy, to switch everyone to ranged weapons in certain situations. It was part of the replayability, for me, changing the way I approached fights, and trying out different things. That's really a shame.

I just get the feeling that with the more "specialized" classes that equates to less choice in trying out more unconventional builds. So warriors get stuck as your tank, rogues your DPS/lockpickers and mage your healer/everything, cause mages are insanely overpowered, and now they can melee up close to boot.

This just stinks as DW warrior was always a nice mix of tank and damage dealer while actually looking cool while doing so. Now we're stuck with clunky shields or anime huge 2 handers or being a lithe ninja assassin....meh.

So I guess this also means warriors can't effectively use ranged weapons then either? Double meh...

warriors are close range tank and dps.
Rogues are agile range and close range dps.
mages are mix of everything in a magical way.

That doesn't make sense at all... first of all DW warrios hold 2 on handed swords... The problem with what you are saying is your daggers look like swords that's why they look the same! If you fixed that you would have different  animations for Daggers and Swords... Daggers should be making thrusting movements while swords making slashing movements...

I dunno this move really dissapoints me im sorry...

If they wanted to distinguish between Rogues and Warriors why not just limit DW Rogues to daggers and let DW Warriors use maces, swords and clubs?

Oh well won't be playing a Warrior

I know this is gonna sound retarded on an rpg forum but

I hate classes. I hate the very idea of them. This entire group of people for no particular reason can only do this and wear this.

It's why I'm probably so sour about the rogue/warrior thing. Minus the lockpicking thing, I really loved the way both were set up.

Oh well...
