thanks for the info Mike. But what about the Qunari in the trailer? Is dual-wielding as a warrior exclusive to them?
Trailer has nothing to do with game mechanics. See the Sacred Ashes trailer for Dragon Age: Origins.

So I'm guessing that the "polearm" in the trailer was a staff then.Mike Laidlaw wrote...

As for the whole making things more unique- if thats the intent, then why are we giving mages melee attacks if they're supposed to be the field artillery?
Because holding your staff at your armpit and going "pew pew" is not cool. At least, I sure don't think it is.
No one said that mage melee attacks were particularly good, just that you don't look lame while you do them.

After reading Mike Laidlaw's post, I'm guessing heavy armors and rogue talents don't go together in DA2.Zhijn wrote...
Hm, i can live with that. Since there is only one race/origin for us to play anyway.
I just hope such a change dosnt putt restrictions on armor/weapons for certain class's (unless unique!), i liked my rogue having a heavy armor on DAO!. =)
More like a Staff-Sword I would say...Gavinthelocust wrote...

Indeed, most of you are right in your suppositions.
Removing dual wield specialization from warriors allowed us to not only make the classes more distinct, but to make the dual wield attacks all distinctly rogue-ish. A warrior in plate mail being fast with two daggers I could handle, but flipping and rolling into attacks? That didn't make sense. So, we could either have boring, vanilla dual-wield anims, or we could make them for rogues and deliver lithe, acrobatic combat for a class that should be just that.

I HATED the ranged staff attack.
Luckily the DA daggers aren't far off from our swords, size-wiseShevy_001 wrote...
I do understand your point, but that news creates tears on my face. I love the dual wield fighting style, but i honestly dont like daggers.
Well, that sucks, doesn't it? I didn't play a duel wield warrior, but I know a lot of people really enjoyed it. I did use archery a lot, and found it tactically very handy, to switch everyone to ranged weapons in certain situations. It was part of the replayability, for me, changing the way I approached fights, and trying out different things. That's really a shame.SDNcN wrote...
First bad new I've heard about DA:2. Sebastian Hanlon just confirmed on the live-chat that dual-wielding will be restricted to rogues (I think he said Archery is as well). Goodbye armored eviscerators.

warriors are close range tank and dps.Brockololly wrote...
I just get the feeling that with the more "specialized" classes that equates to less choice in trying out more unconventional builds. So warriors get stuck as your tank, rogues your DPS and mage your healer/everything, cause mages are insanely overpowered.
This just stinks as DW warrior was always a nice mix of tank and damage dealer while actually looking cool while doing so. Now we're stuck with clunky shields or anime huge 2 handers or being a lithe ninja assassin....meh.
So I guess this also means warriors can't effectively use ranged weapons then either? Double meh...

In the interest of keeping things unique, I'd wager rogues are limited to medium armor or something so they can stay all ninja like with their stealth and flips. Meh....
