How do I get companions to accumulate experience points independently? In the mod I am working on, they always match the pc experience; instead, I want them to always be "ahead" or "behind" the pc's xp points constantly. You know, like Baldur's Gate, for example.

Make them join the party after the PC already has more xp than them.
Also you may have to convert it to a campaign and then switch the campaign properties. You'll know them when you see them as they are self explained field names (companion xp weight, etc)

For my companions when they join the party I get the players xp and add a random number between -250 to +250 then set this as the companion xp. This creates a unique xp that is within the range of the player.
As EE mentioned with the campaign settings you can also make it so the companions only gain xp when they are in the party.

It must be the campaign settings; I'm just working with a module. This is what happens: when they join the party, the companions have about 1000 more experience than the pc. As the pc gains experience, the companions don't. As soon as the pc reaches the companion xp amount, then the companions start getting xp and everyone gains at the same rate. As soon as I work the module into a campaign, I'll mess with the settings. I just think it's weird that you can't set these things in a module.
