Interesting. Didn't expect that guy to actually be worth more than a diversion in ME1.

Definitely glad your squadmates aren't all shouting at you when the M-44 approaches impending doom. Some things needed the cut.

Regardless, how small it is, these little things really could make the game(s) more immersive tenfold.
It's a shame, they didn't leave in Manuel's dialogue, it would have shown that even the most casual encounters make a difference.

I agree, the squad dialogue didn't need to be in, also.

This.

So Manuel isn't the scientist in question any longer? Or is that still a possibility? I don't see why they would remove that connection.

This starts to resemble Mafia II "full game" and "all the cut content in one pack" DLC that is on the way..just for $9.99. Fook devs/companies like that.

Yes. Amazing how much was cut. It wouldn've made the game much more immersive.

Now why the hell did BioWare cut these out? It would have given the DLC much more substance, if you ask me.

It's possible that BioWare figured that most people wouldn't remember Manuel from ME1 and since it's entirely possible to never meet him, including audio of him wouldn't be worth it. Also, I think the dialogue for the other doctor makes him seem too crazy, instead of something subtle that his coworkers wouldn't detect.

Seriously, why does Bioware cut all those dialogues?!

Wow!!! Why did they not keep those logs in? It`s clear Biowaste only cares for the pew pew pew fans and not about the fans.

Although never outright confirmed, his voice and dialogue in Firewalker strongly hinted at him being the same Manuel as in ME1. This cut content confirms it.

Right.  Which is why they just did a DLC entirely about an ME1 character...

You want to know why they really cut these out?  Well, sorry: I have no idea, and neither does anyone else not working at Bioware. Would I rather they hadn't?  Yes. Does that mean it has anything at all to do with shooter fans?  Possibly, maybe?  Personally, though, I'm not seeing how removing a few lines from a DLC furthers the "pander to shooter fans" goal though, especially in a DLC that features no squad combat at all.

Far more likely they just got over-ambitious with the Hammerhead and it had to be dropped from the final release and later they just cobbled together what they could and made some ill-considered cuts.

Won't be too hard to find out. Well, find out what they left in the DLC files anyway.  Plenty of stuff gets cut before it makes it anywhere near an actual build.

I don't think the ME1 save records if you punch Manuel or if you even talk to him (it's pretty easy to skip).

Shame they cut the party's small dialogue. would have added more "flavor" to both Firewalker and Overlord (but then people probably just have demanded much more).

Then why did they record these lines at all?  Seems like a really weird thing to do if it's just impossible to actually use them as intended.

I got the idea that the Prothean ruin was going to involve some actual combat, and probably be larger, so there'd be more little datapads with logs scattered about.  So, before you enter you get the whole "I've got a bad feeling about this..." routine.  As it is now, you just sort of walk in, hack a terminal, and acquire your new piece of cabin decor.  It's anticlimactic enough as it is, and would just seem even more so if your squadmates started up with that at the entrance:

Squad: "OMG, what's gonna happen now?"

* 5 seconds later *

Shep: "Not much, apparently. Alright, let's go.  I wanna check my email."

Maybe they realized that the ME1 flags didn't include the Manuel decisions after they recorded the dialogue. If this was really intended to be included in the game, the fact that the Manuel flags didn't exist might have been one of the reasons why Firewalker had to be reworked.

Yeah.  Could be.  Seems like something you'd wanna check before booking the studio though.  I still say its more likely it was the vehicle causing the trouble,  because getting rid of that little Manuel import thing amounts to dropping a couple lines.  That's not exactly something that requires a drastic overhaul.  You just don't tell the game to play them, and you're done.

Manual is still mention in the emails. So it's not like they changed his character. And I know why they got rid of the Shepard bits:

How the hell does Manual know Shepard's gonna come by, and read is little iPads?

Good stuff. Glad to know that I wasn't being stupid for thinking that it was (supposed to be) the same Manuel from ME1.

That's not what's going on in those logs.   It's just this scared, kinda crazy guy who was there on Eden Prime and he (if you met him) remembers that meeting and that afterwards you tried to stop it all instead of losing it and giving in to a fatalistic despair like he did and basically becoming one of those "THE END IS NIGH! ALL IS LOST!" types. That example was something had a pretty profound effect on him and it made him want to try and fight the Reapers in his own way: by finding something from the past that could be used against them.

So, when he takes these final actions, he addresses his "Goodbye, cruel universe" message to the one person that, as he sees it, really understood.  He doesn't actually think Shep will hear them because he doesn't even think Shep is alive:  "I will join you in death, Shepard."  So no: he wasn't expecting anybody to listen to or read anything, much less Shep him/herself.  As his final line plainly shows, he merely hopes that these things will be found and that his story won't be forgotten...

...and then Bioware went and cut most of it from the game.  Man, sure does suck to be Manuel

My point in my original post was not about the 'HH' hit dialog but more on the lines of how much was planned to be in the game (and hinted at over the course of development) and then got axed at some point. I understand that these things always happen but the amount that seems to have gone on in ME2 seems, from the current info we have, to be far and away more than other games. I doubt we'll ever get a comment from BioWare on this but I do really feel that they had a lot more problems internally (from all causes) that meant a watered down version of ME2. Yes choices had to be made but considering who most probably made those choices and the remarks made since release quality was sacrificed in almost every choice made to get ME2 out the door. Had Firewalker been kept, had the Shadow Broker mission been kept, had there been more freedom in character recruitment progression I would say that much of the critisism would have been avoided.

I originally thought he was, but then there was no reference to it.  This proves he was supposed to be.

Funny, how this is a rather relevant thing (at least it has something to do with Collectors and Protheans, and that crazy scientist who was giving us foreshadowing), whereas we have that ridiculous mother-uncle on the Citadel being hypocondriacs over a 2 year old child.

*raises fist*
