Male Hawke. I doubt I'll be able to ever play a female character in any RPG unless it's forced upon me. I can't fully relate. Also, for a medieval setting I'm sure the game is already going to include a baffling amount of strong and independent female characters without even the protagonist being such.
This
I've never been able to play a female character. If it was forced on me, I just wouldn't play that game.

This is how I feel about MaleShep, but it has nothing to do with gender. He'd just not a character I understand, so I have no interest in playing him.McCreath wrote...

Really? That's curious. I'd like to know why you make the distinction with MaleShep and not FemShep. Almost everything's the same.

Hmmm...yes.
Voice and romance options. And some replies from the NPCs.

I always feel sad when I watch the video of him rejecting Jack. Seriously, my opinion of her skyrocketed after that.
As for the romaces...I agree, none of them are too appealing. I actually never thought about it until you said that, but I can't really think of any of the romances I particularly liked. A lot of them have an element of creepy there.

It is obvious, my dear Watson, that the man is quite mad.

My brother always chooses the ladies, he plays with fem Shep, fem Warden, and I bet he'll choose lady Hawke. He's quite a great fan of female characters, especially Samus.

FemHawke! I'm female, and I always play females if possible. I might play a maleHawke later, but it's definitely FemHawke first.
Same with me. I usually stick with male characters, and later, the female characters.

I hate to say it, but to me, the romance options for males are usually dire (dire enough for me to just not do them) - a tradition started with BG II. Jaheira, Nalia or Aerie was bad enough, but it just went downhill from there. In DA:O, we had an evil witch, an insane bard and Zevran. Zev was the only reasonable one of the three. Never played ME of either generation, so can't comment there.

Hey, I like Morrigan. And Leliana may be insane, but she's a nice girl
Also, Zev makes me laugh, and he's far more crazy than the other two.
In ME...Ashley, Liara, Jack and Miranda were MEH.
I'll stay with Tali

Not Nalia, but Viconia. That one was better in my opinion. Reminded me if Morrigan.

I'm gonna play male, as I always do.
BTW, funny thing, why male players always say I'll be playing female coz with all those hours behind the wheel I wanna look at something pretty/attractive? When you play your own story you want to play the oposite gender? I still have a problem figuring that out.

It depends on how hideous the pc is. If we were forced to play either of the default Hawkes I'd play nothing but femHawke. I cannot express how much I hate that beard. There'd be no way for me to finish the game, I'd just watch as Hawke was butchered again and again by his enemies.

Not everyone sees their PC as a fantasy world version of themselves.

I do not. However, for immersions sake, it's much harder for me to understand or roleplay a guy's emotion than it is a girl's. It's not like I can't do it, but I feel much more detached from my characters when they're not female.

Which is something I'd like Bioware to do at least once.. make the poster child for the game a woman, since they're into making canon versions atm... I'm tired of seeing male Shep and male Wardens everywhere.. along with the fact that half the races in ME have no visual female counterparts and now Qunari don't.. it's becoming a perpetual guy's night out anymore.. <_<

True, I've been thinking about this too. It's as if some men aren't able to see the aesthetic beauty in masculine features. I don't find those heroic, idealized male characters sexually appealing (for I'm straight), but I can still appreciate them on a different level. Maybe awe-inspiring would be a better way of describing it. It can be a bit similar to the way I find a male lion roaring on a cliff magnificent.

This. I see all my characters as seperate people, and I try and give them personalities.
