Goodday gentlemen/ladies.
A couple of days ago I downloaded mass effect 1 for the PC from steam, but now when I attempt to start it, nothing happens. The hourglass thingy comes up for a few seconds but then disappears to no effect. After checking these forums I downloaded patch 1.02, but it didn't seem to have any effect.
my specs are:
Windows 7 64-bit
Intel core i5 750 @2.67GHz
8192MB of RAM
ATI Radeon HD 5450
DirectX 11
any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. if any additional details required please ask.
recently downloaded ME1 fails to start.

You didn't need to download patch 1.02. Steam automatically downloads the most recent version of a game.
I suggest two things. First, make sure you have DirectX 9.0c installed. DirectX 11 isn't backwards compatible with 9.0c. Next, go into your Steam library, right click Mass Effect, click "Properties", in the window that pops up click the "local files" tab, then click "verify integrity of game cache". That will make sure there are no corrupted files in the game.
