I like the fade. I think it was implemented poorly, but I also think it has potential.

^This.

The Fade right now is somewhere between a broken mess, and Tim Burtons nightmares and a broken mess.

Boo to you. The Fade is (or at least was) awesomesauce!

The Deep Roads on the other hand... well, I appreciate them for what they are, but I wouldn't mind them being toned down ever so slightly.

There were only two good things about the fade for me: the "dream and demons area" concept, and the stat gains.

It was so annoying to go around alone, stumbling about and trying to figure out what teleports to where. To make things worse, everything was this shade of pastel.

And after I first finished the fade quest, I told myself "thank goodness it's almost over", only to be dragged into even more levels of the tower than I expected.

Interesting to see how many people dislike it: I loved it the first time and still really enjoy it now (although if the visuals made you nauseous I can certainly see why people might want to skip it).

A big plus was getting to play with magic (as a non-mage on my first couple of runthroughs), and I loved getting glimpses of my companions' history and background - especially Zev and Sten. (Sten's scene is particularly touching, I think.)

I was actually a bit disappointed by the Awakenings Fade: the whole quest felt far too logical for a dreamscape. (It also didn't make sense to me that the whole party plus antagonist all got warped through to the same dream in the same spot....)

I really, really, loved The Fade. Imaginative, innovative, challenging and intriguing are just four ways I describe it - so for me, more please!!

The fade sucked scrotum, the only time the fade was great was in Awakening, not because you had a party, but because it looked a hell of a lot better and iyou didn't have to go marching through 6 places twice then go and get your teammates. That was boring and old. The only thing posotive was the stat bonus.

The Fade just felt like a really long detour. It was an unwelcome light Metroidvania dungeon that featured far too much backtracking and similar-looking scenery. The stat bonuses made it ever worse, because you just HAD to find them all. They were more burden than reward.

The Black Marsh fade was more of a straightforward Dark/Light world mechanic and it was fine.

I'm expecting them to reimagine the fade a bit in DA2. If Qunari can have light skin and horns (to explain Ogres as their Darkspawn counterpart?), anything is possible.

I quite liked the fade in origins so don't really understand the complaints especially the OP's, you thought it was 'creepy' and 'frustrating', then it made you feel and think so succeeded as a dungeon surely?

It wasn't perfect but lets not get the streamline scissors out and cut it from the game (like with DW warrior) instead you should try and look at ways of improving on a good concept.

bahh, I was expecting freaky Sh*t like the ring/grudge girl coming out of walls and pools of water to kill me, and saw-esque death traps

It looks like some folks dislike trying to solve the Fade, but other folks dislike it because once you've solved replaying it is simple.

i would have enjoyed it more if we delved into our party members minds and dreams with a different dungeon for each party member psyche.

I hated it! I found it so frustrating. Surely I'm not the only one. It took creepy and frustrating to a whole new level, just looking at the Black city gave me chills and running around flying rocks looking for someone who isn't trying to kill me all whilst battling ethereal darkspawn and demons....*Sobs quietly*. I love the game and the game world. I just prefer to experience Thedas outside the Fade, in reality.

The graphics made me ill actually ... so I try to go through that part right after Lothering.

Deep Roads had you fight Darkspawn. Since you're a Grey Warden, that's a good thing.

The Brecilian Forest had you learn more of the Dalish and of Werewolves. Interesting, with progress.

The Mage's Tower was somewhat interesting, although throwing Wynne's Companionship on one decision really makes it annoying to even consider a choice.

Redcliffe's battle was fun, unless you tried to have everyone survive.

But the Fade. The Mothertrucking Fade. I....Hate....It....

Awakening's Fade was much more fun. Because it wasn't the same long annoying puzzle, with the same annoying results. And only your companions nightmares make it interesting. And even then you only have nine choices in the very end to view.

The fade annoys me too, the Awakening fade was "meh" but still I hate the fade.

It wasn't so much the "solving", it's more of the memory work. I enjoy puzzles that make you think using problem solving skills and intuition, but the part of the fade in which doors led to other random doors was just pointless.

What a ridiculous comment. Put that way, DA is run forward, hack darkspawn, run forward...etc

Rinse and repeat.

I'm pretty sure the Fade sequence was on the last floor of the Circle Tower, next to Uldred.

The first play through I find the Fade extremely challenging and great fun. A thing were I was like "ZOMG MY PARTY?!".

The second time it was a real piece of annoying ****.

Greatest answer of all. Now all we have to do is wait for Bioware to bring that potential to surface and change everyones opinions!

Oh Maker the first time I enter the fade I was lost for about 3 hours! It was my first play through so I was only at about 10-13 level so I ended up dieing more times then I could count before I had to put the level down to easy. Even then it was hard, not to mention I kept running in circles or walls >.<

That and having to always switch back and forth from forms. I don't know if it was the hours lost or the visuals but I had to stop playing that night because I had a wicked headache.

Now I wait till my level is in the late teens and just rush through it in about 45 minutes. It's still the worst part of the game through. Which is a shame.

The only purpose it had was lengthening an already fairly long dungeon. It had apsolutely no storyline significance at all.

It did make the tower sequence longer but that was not its only purpose.

It has everthing to do with the storyline , the tower is  invaded by abominations - rid the tower of abominations - to rid the tower of abominations you must enter the fade and fight fade spirt. It fits the storyline perfectly. Its subplots also fit into/support the storyline as well. The fade sequence also give the player a taste and feel of what the fade actually is instead of just a written or oral reference.

Now, if you think that it was long and boring thats one thing but to say it has NO purpose is incorrect.
