Amazing screen-shot. I'm ashamed to admit I haven't seen this one. Self punishment later. For now though, I'm still pretty frakking stoked about Bethany as a whole. All the "Support" jokes aside, it seems like she's poised to be the objective voice of reason to Hawke. Given the possibility that she's a Hedge Mage, though nothing has been confirmed yet, it would reason that she would have an open minded view of the world. So, take for instance, if you're trying to play your character as a true champion for good, she might argue that, sometimes, the "Good" choice isn't nessasarily the one that will most benefit the situation in the long term. Or, if you're trying to be the Tyrant rising to power, Beth might be the one to tell you, "Dude, you're being kind of a douche." You get the idea. Given that all of my siblings in the RW are sisters, I have to admit it would feel like comforting and familiar ground to have a 'Sis tagging along, making sure I don't stick my foot in my mouth and heavily judging the girls I date.

As to Voice Actors. It's cliche, I know, but, Kate Beckinsale would be amazing. BioWare's not likely to fork over the cash to afford her. But, still, her voice just fits everything. Regardless of whom they did pick to voice Bethany, since that choice was made awhile ago, I know she'll sound awesome. I haven't heard any really clear dialogue audio from PAX, so guess it's just a wating game till the first Demo Footage hits the net.

or she might die thirty minutes into the game.

Possible but given the information given about the rest of their family's fate, it would make for a double whammy and it wouldn't be very original for the protagonist to be the sole survivor, still it could happen.

Hope she doesn't die or leave otherwise early in the game. Great opportunity to explore having family as a comrade at your side. Like Imoen, but this time you know she's your sister (unlike BG) and she's beside you the entire game (unlike BG2). I also hope they'll allow us to go crazy with roleplaying. It's elements like this which take us away from hackfest games.

And first thing I do will be give her a proper staff. That tree branch thing irks me.

I think Bethany is gonna be a Stab in the back character, Almost anypath you choose beth will almost certainly choose the oppisite at some point and betray the hero of Kirkwall. Look at her eyes, too evil too pass up

I hope so as well it's a dynamic I'd really like to explore from both the positive and negative approval paths as well as moral choices made by Hawke, and she definitely needs to get a staff that doesn't appear to double as driftwood.

I can't wait to hear how they are going to tell the story of Bethany being a mage.

Is someone teaching her? Is she connected to any other apostates? How has she remained hidden? Is she powerful?

The Hawke family may have connections with the Mages Collective, we found out very little about them in Origins.

As to whether she is powerful I think it will be more a question of unrealized potential than any great power to begin with.

Well we've had the answer to this now from David Gaider, Bethany's Father was the one who taught her (and Hawke if a mage) magic, he was also an apostate, he was pretty vague as to whether or not we get to meet their daddy though.

So, when characters start being introduced, think we'll get to see Bethany's concept art? I would like to see if it close to what it is or if it is another Zevran kind of thing.

Gawwd why'd they make your sister so damn sexy when you can't romance her!? Looking at that first screenshot just makes me demand that Bioware should not make her your sister and instead be an LI!!

Well they are releasing at least one Marian Hawke screenshot this coming Tuesday, I would hope that alongside that we get some further concept art, more screenshots and further information on all chacters revealed so far, especially Bethany, and hopefully some previously unrevealed characters.

It is a little amusing is she is the best looking female character in DA2.

Despite the fact that I quite like what we have seen so far, perhaps Bethany will be the baseline, all female LI will be even more attractive.

Am I the only one who thinks her head looks a little too small for her body in this screen? Or maybe her neck is too long? I can't pinpoint it but something doesn't quite seem right.

Indeed. I hope it's just an awkward screenshot or something.

It is a little...off, maybe a tad too long in the neck and a little too much to one side, perhaps her head is going to pop off, land upside down and sprout spider legs and scurry off, while Kurt Russell watches.

You gotta be ****ing kidding me!

I was rather surprised how he just threw that out when answering my question, I expected it to be a "IDK MAYBE" question.

Aye, me too, I suspect the real information that will be kept to release may be the status of the Hawkes Father.

Having a sister in the game would be quite interesting... I just wonder if there is a character that ends up being Bethany's LI, or a Zevran like character that starts hitting on her, and you could play an "overprotective older brother/sister" role and become annoyed with the characters...

Bethany seems quite...fan servicey.  I refuse to think that the chainmail half-tunic is just artistic inspiration, too.

The more we learn about Bethany, the more I begin to doubt that she'll actually live through the entire game.

Their mother's maiden name is Amell, too, which just so happens to be the Warden's surname in the human mage origin.

You do realize we've only seen, like, maybe four important female characters so far?  One would be Hawke's mother, another is Bethany, the next is the Templar's wife whose name escapes me at the moment, and the last is Flemeth.

We haven't seen any of the other female characters in DA2, much less those near Hawke's age who're unrelated, nor have we even see BioWare's typical sex-dripping **** character.

Apologies, I should have used the qualifying comment, 'thus far', however you could have quoted the rest of what I said there as that sentence wasn't intended to stand alone.  I'm quite capable of appearing to be, or simply being, an imbecile of my own accord.

I'd like to mention something I haven't seen discussed. First off, I love the robes she's wearing. They're similar and yet different to the old ones. Everyone is focusing on the...ahem...upper half. While I think the upper half looks quite nice, has anyone else observed that she's actually wearing pants? I think that's kind of cool.
