After playing the demo, I really do appreciate Bethany more.  I like her looks and I cannot wait to see how she plays out with my Hawkes.

Speaking as someone who has a number of friends there, I think I know why the Carver fan thread is so much more active and has a larger page count than we do; we didn't have the unenviable "herp-derp" screenshot drama to be defensive about. Because nothing drives up page count like defensiveness and a persecution complex.

We're pretty mellow, I think.

A "herp-derp" screenshot of Bethany?  Or criticism of Bethany in general for us to feel persecuted and defensive about?

Yeah, besides I think that there isn't  anything "bad" to say about Bethany for any of us in here to go and defend her. She already started in friendly status and I suppose it has a more lighten-up sense of rightiousness compared to Carver (that's what I guess not what it actually is until I play the game it's only my theory), so we may have less to complain and defend her about things as in comparison with Carver.

Personally I won't be playing the Mage Hawke because I'm not willing to get Bethany killed by the Ogre, besides it might be more interesting to see how the Champion rise to power and make the choices with a sister in the party be that a male Hawke or a female Hawke.

In the Demo I already set my line regarding Wesley as to "keep him away of my sister" wich gives a +15 friendship from Bethany and just a +5 from Carver. If one delves into a "investigate" converstation at the end I believe we only get a +5 approval from Bethany, so the sooner it's said that Hawke stands with Bethany the more approval from her. :happy:

Really?  That is a cool thing.  I haven't played the demo yet(Silver account ), so I wasn't aware of that.  It makes sense for that to be the case.  Sometimes, the approval system in Origins was a little weird.  I sometimes expected certain things I said and did to tick some people off more than it actually did.  Makes sense that Bethany would be more thankful if you just stepped right in and defended her rather than playing twenty questions first.

My Hawke will definitely "stand with Bethany" mostly due to the fact that I like the character and I definitely see a protective relationship in the offing, which may challenge a true roleplaying challenge in taking her on dangerous quests.

My Hawke will also "stand with Bethany" as there seems to be an acute lack of chairs in the immediate area of that scene.

I play on 360 too and I didn't see any on screen indictaions of plus points to friendship indicated on screen, I did see these on the earlier demo footage on youtube however.

Hasn't been confirmed, but I hope this is the case, I look forward to playing with both and seeing how hawke's relationship with them can change and develop over the ten year period.

You know it and I know it and many players might know it or think the same BUT don't go and say it or you'll have the defensive line all over you .  That's why I don't go and talk about alistair and why I think he is a whinny..*cough*...instead I prefer to respect their preferences for the characters even if I don't share it.

Although when Carver is a brother that was another thing I took in consideration for not having him in my game and not play as a mage. I already have a real life younger brother who tends to get on my nerves so I decided to have a vacation of a sibling like that in a video game and better to go as the protective older brother for my sister.

If taking in consideration the image of the main menu of the game the two figures facing each other (on the right side someone carrying what it seems a templar's shield and on the left side what it seems a mage) I think I would side with the mages....again and again for personal reasons though this time is not for my LI but for my relative. I have no idea if that is going to happen in the game I just thought about it because of the main menu in the Demo.

Create a new live account so you get the gold trial and then download the demo (saw this in the demo thread but don't know if it actually works as i play on PC)

I bet one of the reasons people complain more about Carver than Bethany is him being only available to mages while Bethany is for both rogues and warriors
Also, we had some people complain about her breasts but they quieted down even before knowing that the size was different on Varric's prime time and the real story.

Alistair didn't bother me so much. He did complain but he at least had a good sense of humour and it was fun having him around. Everything we've seen of Carver has him complaining all the time and even a video showed him complaining about the Templar's being after you. It's like he's blaming you for it. Bethany on the other hand seems to have a much better personality. She doesn't love the Templars but then either do I and being a Mage you can understand why she doesn't like them. But so far she seems like a good character. And Unlike Carver I wouldn't have my character yelling at Bethany for something that isn't her fault.

I thought having Alistair in the party was worth it just for the arguments he'd have with Morrigan. I got lots of laughs out of that. Oddly enough they actually reminded me of Siblings the way they teased each other.

Indeed, Carver seems to just complain about the problems and the way he talks to Bethany it's like he wants to start an argument. Bethany seems like she has the better personality and would be the sibling I'd get along with the best. But yes, there's a lot still to see.

Yes, I'd always taking the mages side. I didn't like the Chantry in Origins and I doubt I'll like them in Dragon Age 2. The thing with Quanari will be interesting.

I wonder if bioware is aware of the very strange phenomenon they have fueled with bethany.

i cant remember a situation where so many people wanted to mount there sister as much as now. (gaming situation at least, i guess? the depth of that conversation is entirely unnecessary right now)

seriously i may have to play a mage just to suppress the urges.

i suppose the only problem is that from demo, screen shots and wherever else she is most attractive companion, physically and socially. it'd be nice to see an npc, anders or fenris nail her. at least that way i know shes you know, getting her do or at the very least taken.

The Hawke in that video was custom, so I expected to see some different facial structures for Bethany and Leandra, but I had no idea that it affected hair style.  Either hairstyle is dependent on your custom Hawke, hairstyle for Bethany can be chosen, or maybe Bethany was just given a new look. 

If it is indeed a new look, I am not sure how I feel anout this.  Seeing that short black hair just made me think of Cassandra.  Perhaps I just need some time to mull it over, but maybe I am just too used to the Bethany hairstyle I have seen for a while now.  Or perhaps that video is from an old build.  Or maybe it is from the newest/retail build.  Maybe it is a mod or something similar, kinda how there was that one picture with Isabela using a bow. 

Sheena works.  I like that name.  Which reminds me that I need to pick a name for my Fem-Hawke also...
