Honestly i'd PAY for a DLC that extends the usefulness of Bethany/Carver to more than emotional fridge stuffing.

Absolutely. The game was advertised as placing such an emphasis on family, but we only get to spend a third of the game with our brother/sister? It's stupid. I'll bet they were originally planned as having a much larger role, but were cut back due to time constraints.

I'd pay to have some DLC that focuses on letting us use our sibling in Acts II/III though.

Same thing with carver, i don't like him but a lot of other players do and it was still probably just as costly to make him as it was to make bethany. He's also wasted money.

Nice to see more and more of us want a Bethany/Carver dlc or patch that lets us have them in our group.  Agree I'm not a fan of Carver, actually he really irritates me but there are a lot who like him.  I tried to compensate by trying to make my mage look like the default Bethany face but I pretty pathetic at sliders and gave up.

I'm pretty sure by "family" they meant let's make Hawke have family problems".

Is there any difference between the "Bethany dies in the deep roads" Homecoming when compared to the Carver one?

Oh and Hello everyone I'm quite a fan as well.

nope, just the names are different but the reactions are the same.

BTW i find it amusing seeing a krogan avatar in a bethany support group. :)

For me it was more like have Hawke with family problems and then kill off  her family and then kill them off for cheap emotional moments. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/angry.png[/smilie]

I would forgive Bioware for taking Bethany away if it was possible to storm the Gallows somewhere in Act 3, free her and then abuse Hawke's Champion status to protect her. If Anders is allowed to walk freely (Meredith even calls him Mage once) then why shouldn't be Bethany? Especially since Bethany is one of the few truly good mages and Anders is technically an Abomination...

Oh and hello everyone here!

I think I'm done with DA series after this game, and just stick with ME. I was disappointed with so many things with DA2, the most annoying thing is not to be able to change anything, and on a BioWare game? The best character in game, better even than the main character and she gets locked away "if not dead" for pretty much 98% of the game, WTH...

I agree, i think it was an overall bad/wasteful move on bioware's part.

THey probably spent a thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars making her. Her body, design, voice acting, programming her combat AI code, her facial expressions and everything in between. A whole character isn't cheap. They take the time to get us emotionally invested only to lock her away again for 2/3 of the game.

Would it have honestly cost so much more to extend her presence fully? They already spent a jackload just to get her started, why not use her fully?

The simple debug mods show that her programming code is fully functional throughout all the game. the only add on would have been a little more voice acting for party banter and maybe quest related comments. No need to give her another personal quest, we love her enough already.

They could have even had some variation with it: Dead bethany is dead, so we get all emotional and heartbroken. Warden bethany doesn't come back until act 3 but comes back as a bad ass epic-face-melter that shoots fireballs from her eyes, and lightning bolts out her boobs. And circle bethany is always with us but her "home base" is the gallows and we get templars blowing smoke up our ass everytime we borrow her.

But instead, bioware wasted money... to make us feel bitter and cheated..... in bussiness spending money to make things worse is called: "a bad move"

Jeez, does it really cost that much? I mean, I guess it makes sense - but wow. Maybe that explains the NPC's around Kirkwall that aren't nearly as detailed as some others.

But anyways, I also felt it was a wasted opportunity to with the siblings being put away for 2/3 of the game, but all well.

But I guess

oh no, its not odd, its amusing!

I can imagine wrex playing Dragon age 2 on his omni-tool and shepard walking over:

Shepard: "Wrex, are you modding the game?"
Wrex: "Yes, i'm trying to get bethany and my female-mage-hawke together in one playthrough."
Shepard: "Why?"
Wrex: "Because she's so sweet and cute, and because she gives hugs."

Wouldn't the be serving Bethany instead of us? Well imagine that, Bethany with a Reaper fleet, she will find a way to make those squids adorable.

Bethany has saved the universe!

Speaking about Shepard, my Shepard would definetly start flirting with Bethany if he saw her. That wouldn't end well since my Hawke is a very over-protective sister.
Hawke: I don't really like the way you look at my sister.
Shepard: I have no idea what you mean...
*Hawke angry stare*
Shepard: I should go
*Shepard runs away and never comes back*

To be honest that was something I hoped DA2 would've had, I would've enjoyed a small sidequest like that where some guy is interested in Bethany and then Hawke would have the option to have a "talk" with him....
But instead of having family quests like that Bioware had to take away/kill off everyone...

I honestly expected there to be a quest where you would help your sibling find love...or at least take care of an ass former flame.
...we got a quest to help a companion find love....it was just Aveline instead of Bethany/Carver....too bad really it could have been a glourious opportunity for snarky Hawkes.B)

I agree, bioware definitely had it in them to make good romantic comedy side-quests. Aveline's side-quest "the long road" is proof they could do it tastefully and funny. THey should really have expanded their dev-team and made quests like that for more of the characters, especially carver and bethany since you can't romance them anyway.

Hawke: "Listen up... If you hurt my sister in any way just remember i use the Arishok's skull as a gravy boat...."

"The Long Road" is definetly one of my favorite quests, it's pure comedy gold, especially with Isabela. The sex talks between Isabela and Bethany were priceless, the only problem with them was that it gave me false hope for a quest about finding love for Bethany. I doubt I would've found anyone since my Hawke has very high standards since she doesn't want that anything bad happens to her sister, not stabbing Cullen when he was about to take Bethany away to the Circle was out of character for my Hawke :innocent:

And here's a screenshot of Bethany that has smoked... something :P
