Somehow I don't really mind the whole approval loss thing with characters. A game where every character agreed with every decision I made would be a boring one, imo.

Well, the problem I have with her is not that she has her opinions (Sten have his own, and he's terrific), but her double-standards and hypocrisy.

You don't really get to "cure" her exactly, but you can show her how she's wrong at specific points.  At the anvil of the void, she wants to use it.  I suggested I could use it on her, and then got a persuade option basically to reveal her double standard to herself.

Sometimes it seems like they forgot to add more persuade options for Morrigan. She is clearly not unintelligent and would be able to see the value of say, having a man like Arl Eamon on your side.

I'm gonna be lynched for this, but I think should would have been more amusing as a slightly older woman. I don't why but I something just doesn't feel right.

on morrigan, I find her to be the most interesting character in the game, she comes across as power hungry, callous, and selfish. And for her part she is in fact mostly that but if you talk to her much or listen to her banters with the other party members it can become apparent that inside she's still a bit that little girl with the golden mirror just wanting to be "normal".

In particular her banters with Leliana made me feel for Morrigan, one where they talk about the stories they were told as children and Morrigan mentions how her mother's stories gave her nightmares. And later they talk about religion, Morrigan being atheist. The conversation is mostly what you expect but at the end Leliana says how she feels bad for Morrigan and how lonely she must get, that really seemed to strike Morrigan off guard because she sounds like she's fighting back tears while struggling to maintain her dismissive attitude of the situation.
Poor Morrigan :(

In short she's my favorite character because she is so anti-social but inside doesn't really want to be that way and yet in the end she can't overcome the person she's been raised to be. It's a bit tragic really but the layers and depth of the character, not to mention Claudia Black's stellar voice acting in the role make for the most interesting companion character in any rpg I've played recently.

Put bluntly I think Morrigan is a cracking party character. She's smart, hot, and useful. She's pretty much my preferred support Mage - I never seem to get into scrapes that require the attentions of Wynne.

The only thing I don't like about her is that engaging her in conversation is like walking through a minefield. As much as I like characters with depth, it sometimes gives me a headache trying to figure out what sets her off. I fully understand why she disapproved of me forcing a merchant to lower his rates for the sake of the refugees in Lothering.

What I don't understand is why she doesn't even comment when I refuse to pay tolls to highwaymen and proceed to burn them to a crisp, and I certainly don't understand why she considers questions about why she's here more offensive then the aformentioned merchant situation.

Are there any guides out there for dealing with Morrigan? I've decided my char is going to end up boning her at some point and pretty much the only thing I've seen so far that she likes is acting like a bastard, giving her loads of gifts and thanking her for helping me.

Yeah, I would have probably not hated the character if we'd got Flemeth or Wynne with Morrigan's personality in the party (arguably, Morrigan IS Flemeth's personality taken down a notch but you get what I mean). An old woman grumping about being nice to people would come across as being jaded and probably having some reason of experience for feeling that way. Whereas if Morrigan as she is was transported into our world, she'd be that kid who reads xkcd and feels smugly superior in understanding the "oh so niche humor" of 80's hit movies and high school science.

I find her intriguing and heck, my PC even agrees with her about some things (my PC doesn't "believe" in the Maker, she believes magical traditions outside of the Circle's jurisdiction aren't "bad" and should be preserved). We disagree about the value of altruism and emotional attachment though.

She's a rather complex character, I'll give her that.

She puts out a front that makes her appear to be this infalliable being with no need for pesky emotions or attachments to those around her. Yet once you get close to her, or say something that catches her off guard, you see that it's all a front. I was just playing the game a few hours ago and had a conversation with Morrigan after giving her Flemeth's Grimoire. She seemed so unsure of herself and wondered why I considered her such a close friend and didn't throw her out of the party as soon as I was able. In the end her confident mask slipped away and she told me that she would treasure my friendship, even though she might not always prove herself worthy of it.
It melted my heart to see that, and while the dialogue in that scene does heavily hint that she is up to something I couldn't help but feel badly for her then. That and a few other choice interactions with my character led me to believe that she truly did care for my companionship, even though she would never admit so when others are present.
Don't get me wrong, she's still very high on my list of character I'd probably want to throw under a steam roller if I ever met them in real life. (I got such a kick out of threatening to turn her into a golem when she ****ed about keeping the Anvil of the Void. So much fun. >:D And I only got (-1) disapproval for it!) Still I find ehr characterization to be rather compelling when you look beyond the surface.

This is the personality of every family-friendly brooding anti-hero.

True, but Morrigan's the first I've come across to not inspire an all encompassing sense of rage and hatred in me. :-P She annoys the hell out of me at times, sure, but she's at least tolerable compared to most people who fit that character type.

I would say voice acting, voice acting and... you get it :)
English is not my native language and I got two copies of the game (the localized version was delayed). I installed the English version first, played the game, and when the localized one finally reached my mailbox, I installed it. I loaded my last save, got my party with Morrigan, went to Orzammar and then I started to feel something wrong (dwarven voices were not very convincing). Then I talked to Morrigan. Jesus! That's not my Morrigan!
Ten seconds later, the localized version was in the trash bin and I was in the process of reinstalling the English version. Really amazing I must say.
About the character itself, I really enjoyed discussing with her (and even more if you want to know), but I found it ended far too quickly. All the options were closed very early in my game and I spent most of my game having nothing discuss with her. I found that pretty frustating. But that probably means I like her as a character :)
