But hey, Have a nice day."

Wasn't the only thing confriemd that *a* party member develops a romance with *another* party member, there wasn't anything about who was involved?

Anyway this has been confirmed on Ustream.

Your sis can have a romance with a party member?

If I Heard correctly then yes. You have to understand I was to busy chuckling on how someone made him say "Do you have Mike Hawke Jokes in the office"

I almost spat out my water when he said it. And he didn't say it was Bethany exactly.

Woe be to the weakling cowards that will try to romance Bethany!

"So, why do you think you are good enough to be with my sister?"

"Well, I'm a nice guy."

"But can you swing a sword or cast spells?"

"W-well, no, but I am a master with a lute!"

"A lute!? Do you have any kind of job? Can you at least kill people for money?"

"Murder?! I'd never, murder is wro--"

"Get the hell out of my castle. I don't want to see you near my sister ever again."

I hope there are NPC romances that can occur. It's the little story elements like these which make my role playing experience.

Hmmm....all joking aside it would be interesting to see companions develop romantic interests of their own. How could they implement this? Aside from us having to talk a companion into having a relationship with another? Nah, I don't think we need matchmaking "games". Unless they could figure out a way to have them fall in love on their own without player intervention.

I would really, REALLY love if Bethany had some kind of love interest that I could weigh in on. It would be really cool if you could have a little sibling rivalry if you play a female (or a male, I suppose) and the gentleman in question has to choose. Of course, this is assuming that Bethany is only attracted to men, but I think she's probably straight. But who knows.

Ideally I would hope whoever Beth's romantic interest is would only fall for her and not be an option for Hawke. It would begin on its own and could be encouraged or terminated depending on how much Hawke wants to interfere. A love triangle might be interesting, but I think it would make that particular love interest's romance more shallow than one that was only an option for Hawke.

Maybe Bethany is a black widow and romances 3 male/females at the same time, they find out and give her the ever inevitable and despised ultimatum, and she goes to her older sibling for relationship advice? Authentic? Yes. Fun? Maybe, on text sounds bad but on text having the main character get involved in a romance while trying to save the universe also sounds bad.

It would be kind of weird if Bethany spent 10 years being old enough and hot and didn't get men trying to romance her up.

while this may be fun, and I'm all for it, would it necessarily fit for what the devs want to tell?

I'm not sure why it wouldn't fit.

Companion: Hawke, I guess I gotta let you know about something. Me and Beth, we began to develop feelings for each other, and...

Specialization Unlocked: Berserker

I'm thinking something more like an Aerie/Haer'Dalis fling, where both parties are capable of pursuing a natural relationship without a third party intervention. BUT, the fellow is a rascal and in the end Bethany is hurt. Unless his approval was high enough so Hawke had a positive influence upon him. Then things play out rather well.

I always think of Aerie when this topic comes up as well, but I usaly think of Minsc.  That wasn't romantic, but it was a relationship that (sorta) developed alongside your own, and I loved it.  So much so that in BG2 I refuse to have one of them in the party without the other.

I think I would enjoy playing the older protective sibling dynamic, but if Bethany tried to steal my man, I would CRUSH her.

Whaddya mean? C'mon, of course Minsc and Boo and Aerie will always be in the party. It's a given. Witch thing or no.

Baldur's Gate was such a "grand" series and came far closer to roleplaying than any CRPG ever did, in my opinion. Sad to see tons of features used in those games have been abandoned completely.

I didn't even think about how approval on a party member could influence the relationship, good idea.
Also if you are playing as a female character and you are both interested in the same character, maybe having a high enough approval will make her back down? And when it is to low it will result into a sibling fight.

If Bethany does indeed enter into a relationship with someone, I will probably play the over-protective sister and scold both her boyfriend *and* her. However if she starts getting cosy with an LI who I happen to be interested in as well, there is going to be a *LOT* of rivalry, things are going to get ugly, to put it mildly...

I just thought of another interesting possibility. I know she probably won't play that big a part in the game, but what if someone starts putting the moves on your mother? That would probably make me just as angry, or perhaps just freaked out. "Stay away from him mother! That sodding nug-humper isn't worth your time!"

For some reason I am reminded of Tony Montana from Scarface and the manner in which he reacted when he discovered his bestest friend was banging his sister, of whom he is overtly protective. Alot of stuff happens after that.

that...
could be entertaining. I'd need to keep a save file there for a good laugh once in a while, especially if there's anything political (kinda like the landsmeet) in DA2.
