Instinctual human desire to protect family. Women are seen as more vulnerable (strength wise, they usually are), as well.

I don't know! I have two older brothers, we don't do stuff like that. Instead we just tell embarrassing stories about each other ...

If you indeed turn out to be the over-protective brother and scare of one of her LIs, then yes I think she should retaliate by trying to scare of one your LIs.
