I'm running NWN2 with Mask of the Betrayer installed and patched to the final Version 1.023 (1765).

I'm currently in the middle of Act 2, and there are certain locations I cannot seem to travel to without causing a loading error. When the game begins to load one of these areas, it returns to the title menu with the message:

"Could not load the Module. Module might be corrupt OR It was created using a newer version of the toolset and/or game resources."

It happens whenever I try to go to Highcliffe, West Harbor, or Fort Locke, but for now I can go to any other location. I was able to visit the locations the first time during the game with now problem.

I've already tried reinstalling. The only mod I have installed is the Fire and Ice Big Fonts UI. And I have never used the toolset or any of the console commands.

Any clues on what might be causing this?

I'm guessing the answer is no, but are you sure that you never opened the OC modules in the toolset and accidentally saved them?

This usually happens when someone was rooting around in an OC module and saved it, thereby altering what the program is expecting to find.

Are you saving regularly in new slots as recommending, or are you using the same saved game file and overwriting it?

I 7zip my campaign modules when I'm not playing them. I used to get that message when trying to play the campaigns without all the modules. Make sure you have all the modules for MOTB in the folder. They are:

A_X1, B_X1, C_X1, D_X1, E_X1 and Z_X1.

NWN DM - Yeah, I'm sure. I've never even opened the toolset.

Selene Moonsong - I've been making new slots, but deleting the oldest ones as the number of saves gets high. Although, this error does make me think of save file corruption.

LeeMer47 - They were all in the module folder.

Alright. After some more exploring I think I've mostly figured out the problem.

In each of the save files are 2 files for each location a .sav and a .Z file. For the locations listed above, there is a .sav file but no .Z file. I tried deleting those those .sav files, and tried going to the location to see what would happen. It causes cutscenes, NPC locations, and some dialogue trees to reset to their original stat prior to visiting that location. But quests will not re-trigger and certain NPCs will have up to date dialogue.

This has pretty much fixed my issue Highcliffe and Fort Locke, but causes West Harbor to revert back to the "attack". Basically West Harbor is then stuck in this state because none of the events trigger and the few NPCs there will have their up to date dialogue.

My oldest save is still missing these files, but I assume that if I had a save from before these files disappeared I could just copy/paste the .Z file from there.

Finally, I downloaded a save from someone else and copied the .Z file for West Harbor and that should have put everything back where it should be, so everything should be fixed.

About making anew save rather than over-writing. I always overwrite my saves and generally have just 2 a main and a situational save, I've never had any problems with this process.

I am running NWN 2 without any expansions and I never went in the toolset or the campaign before. It is patch to the latest version by a patcher.

WHen I try to load the campaign I get this message:
"Could not load the Module. Module file might be corrupt OR it was created using a newer version of the toolset and/or game resources.

Any idea how to solve this?   Can I download the campaign somewhere as of patch 1.23?

Any help is welcome...

(edit)  Sorry, nothing I had here was actually relevant to your situation.

Here's something that might be worth a look:  Corrupt Module?
