My version of Mass Effect keeps crashing during loading screens.  I'm running a dual core PC, 2Gb of Ram, 256mb grabhic card (ati).

It only started crashing once the DLC was installed. It was working fine up until then.

The amount of VRAM that is attached to a graphics card is literally the least important thing to worry about.  There have been millions of "Sucker Bait" video solutions sold in the last three years with 512 MBs and even a full GB that have merely been a SCAM if misrepresented as useful for games.

It is the chip's Core Speed, the RAM's base speed, and the count of shader units that actually have meaning, so consider this part of the System Requirements from Mass Effect 2, if you will:

Video Card = 256 MB (with Pixel Shader 3.0 support). Supported GPU Chips: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or greater; ATI Radeon X1600 Pro or greater. Please note that NVIDIA GeForce G.210, 7100, 7200, 7300, 7400, 7500, 8100, 8200, 8300, 8400, 9200, and 9300; ATI Radeon X1300, HD 2400, 3100, 3200, HD 3450, HD 3470, HD 4200, HD 4350, and HD 5450 are below minimum system requirements. Updates to your video and sound card drivers may be required. Intel  and S3 video devices are not officially supported in Mass Effect 2.

If your system is at all different from the requirements, wrong Service Pack, odd vendor source, etc., that's why Chris asks all of the details -- it all potentially makes a difference.

You wrote your question in the Mass Effect 2 Tech Forum, which is the game I answered this about.  However, I've edited it because you named "Mass Effect", not "Mass Effect 2" in your message.

Between the two games, the CPU requirement for the second one did become rather more demanding, but graphics-wise, ME-2 is the more efficiently coded game, so it probably runs better on various Low-End video stuff that ME1 struggles to run on (and yet, you have to be very careful about those weak cards, as per the long lists of what doesn't work, at least not if the frame rates are allonwed to slip too low).  The official requirements that were named for the PC version of ME-1 were total crap when it came to the video cards anyway.

Which game are you having trouble with?

Mass effect 2 sorry. I just applied all the DLC and the game begun crashing frequently during loading screens. Like I said, it didn't used to have this problem.
