Seriously though, by selecting romance conversation options, you are making sex a relevant issue.


I agree with the idea that mature video games should have the same freedom of expression as movies/television. Watch shows like Rome and Spartacus, Blood & Sand and you'll see quite a bit of nudity. Why? Because these shows depict foreign cultures that have a different attitude toward sex and nudity. Isn't it conceivable that traveling across Thedas, or jumping around various star systems, one could stumble across such cultures?

As long as the story remains good, bring on the gratuitous sex and violence.

Hence "usually."  If it is necessary and/or relevant then I have no objections.  I was not aware, however, that romance automatically meant sex.

I like how they did it in the first Mass Effect. Or, if they want to do a fade to black, how they handled it with Liara in LotSB would be cool. (Who now has, by far, the hottest -- and yet most tasteful -- "love scene" in ME2)

Indeed, blood fountains and violent finishing moves aren't important for gameplay either. The gameplay itself would be fine with less graphic death animations and no finishers.

It's just there cause some people think it's cool and because it is supposed to add to the mature atmosphere. But then I would argue that a more open approach to sex and nudity would add to the atmosphere as well. In my opinion a great deal more than stacking up the gore.

Obviously Bioware can add or leave whatever they think is needed, since it's their game. A few of these decisions (like spending time and money on more and diverse finishers) are hard for me to understand though. Maybe it really is a culture thing after all. I dunno.

True, I don't need blood flying around, it's not need for me to have fun with games. There are sertain stuff what's needed to have good impression illusion, but it doesn't have to go too extreme on details to have the illusion of living world.

Sex and romance are not interchangeable, they may include the other, but are not the same thing. A romantic evening with the missus doesn't have to include sex. A sex filled evening with the missus does not have to have romance. I felt the ultimate goal of the romances in DA was to sleep with the person you're romancing then it ends. Perhaps I am wrong, but that's the way it felt. The "Achievements" didn't do anything to help me feel otherwise. You can have romantic relationships without sex. I say it's a sign of an educated being to be honest... the ability to look beyond your penis.

Nudity is out of the question but no fade to black!  There is something wrong with you if chopping off heads doesn't bother you but a little snuggling does.

It's true that sex and romance are two seperate things that can work on their own, but I think most feel they complement each other strongly.

A platonic relationship for a LI would be an interesting thing too and definately something I wouldn't dislike to see in DA2. However, I think it would feel very odd, if not to say highly unrealistic if every LI in DA2 would prefer the platonic kind of relationship.

Some prefer sex in a romantic relationship, some prefer a platonic relationship and some prefer "casual sex". Why shouldn't characters in DA2 differ like that as well?

I never said no one on Thedas is allowed to have fetishes or prefer exotic positions. But there's a difference between disallowing the possibility of their existence and not needing to see it.

It's characterization. Like the diaper fetish the developers subtly added to DA. We just failed to notice it because everyone in Ferelden is doing it.

On a serious note, this is the argument for more varied sex. Just like how someone would go about killing someone adds to their character, how someone would have sex can as well. I just personally don't see how Alistair sucking on the female warden's toes or Leliana grabbing a strap-on (for the male warden) helps in any possible way.

My opinion, exactly.
I've always find if funny how blood, mutilation and violence are acceptable and sex/nudity are "pointless, porn, you name it".

I feel the need to elaborate on this.  IIRC, I did not get the romance Achievment until after I slept with someone.  I would have preferred to have gotten this after we professed our love for each other, whether we had sex or not.  I could swear I "romanced" Morrigan until I slept with her, for the achievment, then changed to Leliana because I wasn't "turned on" by Morrigan.

Side note:  I had to delete and reinstall everything related to DA:O, before I did that I was working on earning all Achievments, regardless of how I felt about them.

I think your now trying to fool yourself. The entire purpose of that image is to catch someone off guard and have them thinking they are looking at something else entirely.
