I did too but I think I'm suffering DAO burnout at the moment. Can't seem to stick with a game lately.
Heh, this I can sympathise. I have my next Amell designed in the toolset though, for when the time comes. Think I'll have a DA detox for a while first, though!

I just returned after a 3-day endurance test nerd style. Played DA2 and even got the chance to play as a rogue and female Hawke was available as well. Let me tell you this game ROCKS! While clearly can do with a bit of animation polish this game looks to be beatiful. Everything has improved upon the original, it is not as 'actiony' as and action-RPG, but rather alot more hands on. You will still be required to go into the wheel and select attacks if they are not designated to buttons, but make no bones about it this game will likey be a tougher than the original, as the combat is a lot more fast paced, and therefore you may be more likely to stop and pause the game wheel to plan your strategy a bit more carefully. ....................
What exactly is meant by "rather a lot more hands on" ?
( Someone else has already mentioned something like a 'dodge' joystick move for example )
And in what sense is combat tougher because its "a lot more fast paced" ?
( Again, on another post, someone had remarked that Hawke spent a great deal of time jumping about in the air like a ballerina, with added effects. "Think like a general, fight like a ballerina..." was his quote and another wondered why Hawke was running so fast.. Is that what 'fast paced' implies ? )

Which is interesting enough that I designed my new human Mage to look Hawke-ish. Though now I'm curious as if there's a connection beyond just the name.

It's hardly impossible to tell. I know I can differentiate most VAs by the sound of their voice. Not only that, but I've heard a few people claim that he sounds like or sounded like Peter Bramhill. It's up in the air right now.
I'd actually like it to be Cailan myself. Though Vaughn's VA sounds good, at least as Vaughn. IMO when I played the City Elf Origin, even as I replay it, it always feels good to kill Vaughn off. However.. I do wonder what I'll do if I make a jerky Hawke.. I might end up not caring if he dies too..

As someone who plays mages exclusively I'd love for Hawke to be voiced by Liam O'Brien. He does some awesome spell vocalizations. Unfortunately, I doubt it will come to pass.zahra wrote...

Mmhmm, he is quite talented and has done several major roles. He was the voice of Gaara in Naruto, I think, and also War in Darksiders.
However, I'll remember him for his role as the Ghost in SC2. "You have something on your face. *sniper shot* Got it."
I think Niall's voice was iffy because he was going for the whole tired/hopeless thing, and it was just too long a sequence to hear that faux-monotone.

While dodge may be statistically related as well, I never really experienced it in my demo. The rogue has and actually evade/dodge skill in which they leap and roll a fair distance in what ever direction the left stick is tilted when the skill is activated.
As for the "Think like a general, fight like a spartan" thing. That line bugs the hell out of me, while the general part doesn't irritate me even thought it sounds a little cheesy. The fight like a Spartan line bugs the hell out of me, because it uses an irrelevant out of context historical refference, like why couldn't it just be fight like a warrior/soldier or something.

Since it was a demo, I didn't come close to dying once. However, I did eat a lot of hits when I was surrounded by a swarm of 15+ darkspawn (which by the way have new models, that look less Lord of the Ring and a bit more human). As for the fast paced combat, I found it to be a bit more fluid, but also a bit more button mashy when I was not using my skills, and just stood their hammering on the PS3's X button. While some may says that sounds mindless, it was satisfying none the less, and I would say no more mindless than sitting their observing your character just slowly hack away as in DAO.

It's not really "dodging," but I found I was able to run away from an Ogre's hit after he started it but before it landed. In DAO, basically, if it starts then it will land, no matter how far away you are at that point. But I was playing Bethany, nuking the hell out of him, and it pissed him off. So he'd run towards me, raise his arms to splatter me, but I'd run away and wouldn't get hit. It wasn't the AE "pound the ground" attack either, it was definitely a one-on-one attack.
That is fantastic. I really hated how I could sprint across the room to avoid their attacks and some how managed to get blown away anyway. Often it'd be like it attached an elastic band to me, since I'd zoom right back across the room and land on my ass in front of it.

About the dodging: I love that attacks won't automatically hit no matter what anymore. I hated that. If my character moves out of the way, then they shouldn't get hit by a melee attack. I know some may say that that's too action-rpg like, but I think it adds an entirely new dimension to tactical gameplay since you can now take character positioning into account even more.

Well, against all possible odds, I hope Lady Hawke is voiced by Lucy Glitter. Her voice work on Alley of Murders is honestly the voice work I have liked most in any game or mod. <3Saibh wrote...
But I hope we're all wrong, and it's Jowan for males, Isolde for females.

For the record, in wargaming, fantasy or otherwise, its often the case that you cannot simply run away and thus evade an attack. In most wargame rules ( skirmish sets included ), running away whilst in melee usually give your opponent a free, unhindered and automatic hit at you.
Because in the process of running away you drop all your defenses. ( effectively its like turning your back and thus dropping your gaurd ) Defense capabilities and skills might negate this free attack ( I assume this is like the 'Disengage' skill warriors have in DA:O. Skirmish wargaming rules have similar )
So whilst this did look odd in DA;O, ie where you see the world 'Hurl' pop up next to a golem you are fighting and thus try to run to the left of right but are still pasted by the incoming boulder no matter where you have managed to run to, I didn't see this as an actual problem once you understood the combat wasn't actually 'real time' combat. The 'dice' had been rolled and the golem/ogre had scored its 'Hurl' hit, the combat and movement animations just confused people because they appeared to be real time.
Effectively what you are describing here sounds like something that moves the combat system far more into action and dexterity/quick reflexes based combat.( button mashing to call it by its common name ) Which for me personally is the wrong direction to be taking it. Hmmm...
