Probably one of the best written games I ever stumbled across, and thus easily my favourite RPG.
Though DA:O is a close second...
Stay with me now; at least try to maintain eye contact and just listen to the dialogue.

Planescape: Torment.
Sadly, none of them featured Meowth.

My hat is off to you LiquidGrape for your recommendation. That game had an amazing first half. The Malkavian PC's dialogue in particular was always enjoyable.

Final Fantasy IX.
Then my number two is a tie between Dragon Age and Persona 3 Portable

I've never understood the unpopularity of FFIX. It was the only one other than VII that I've ever liked.

I LOVE that game, especially the way it ended!* Yeah it definitely deserves a sequel, shame the company that made the game is gone now :'(
The Mass Effect series is my favourite though

Bloodlines is just damn awesome! It's a tie with DA:O for me. I love them both so much!
I made a video for Bloodlines a while ago if anyone's interested in it:

Other than that dreadful sewer segment when you're looking for the nosferatu, I agree wholeheartedly. The situations in that game were just so inventive. Like that sequence in the office building in Chinatown? Awesome. And I've never had as much fun clearing out a crackhouse in all my years of gaming.

I played as a female Toreador, I loved the body armor set on them. It was so stylish.
And Smiling Jack... Well he was just badass...
