So, earlier this morning I just defeated the Archdemon and ended the blight for my first playthrough. It took me about 59 hours of playtime. I didn't finish all of the side quests and I didn't take my time on a few parts that I could have. You could probably easily get 65-70 hours out of a single playthrough. Which is great indeed. Big games are not only worth the money but also very rich in lore and detail that give further incentive for another playthrough.
Which brings me to the rarest and most interesting point: the minute after I beat it with the Dalish Rogue, I began a new game on hard difficulty with a female human mage origin. Never in my life have I beat a game(especially a game of this size) and started a new one immediately after.
I would give DA a hearty 9.5 out of 10. There is not much missing from this game in my opinion. And the things that may be are slight and do not hinder the overall experience of fantasy and wonder throughout the game.
The situations are dark and cause the player to carefully examine their choices given their origin, situation and ultimate goal. This was great stuff -- particularly towards the end of the game. The revelations and twists are simply brilliant. I did not want the game to end. Few games can illicit this kind of dedication to their game world. DA pulls this off smoothly, as it does a lot of things.
So, it took a good solid week of playing for a chunk of hours per night, but it was worth every single enjoyable minute. And then some.
Did it live up the hype? Absolutely.
Did it meet my expectations? It exceeded them.
Is it better than BG2? That's a tough call but definitely worthy of debate.
But more importantly -- is it the best RPG to hit the shelves in the past decade? The answer is a big resounding, yes. Dragon Age is nothing short of brilliant. And I cannot wait to end another blight with my new mage.
This is the game I've needed, the game I've dreamed about.
First playthrough. My thoughts.

haha wow awesome little summary. I completely agree with everything you said, the only flaw I found with this game which doesn't really effect it one bit is that I wish some1 would of warned me Blood Dragon Armor is the best in the game, well so far. I'm 67 hours in & Dragon Scale, Legion of the Dead, Commander Warden Armor, Juggernaut all inferior to Blood Dragon but not a big deal just a little side note.
Anyways excellent layout & very well worded. I would love to show my appreciation for this game in word form but I honestly can't properly word how much this game exceeded my Very High expectations & ha just wow'd me every single step of the way.
