mass effect won't run on new system configuration.

i purchased mass effect awhile back on steam, and played it and beat it many times over, on windows xp.

i recently reformatted the same machine, and installed windows 7 home and proceeded to redownloaded mass effect and play it, but i keep getting a standard "mass effect has stopped working" error.

i have read in previous posts about direct x 11 not being compatible with direct x 9.0c and it causing problems with running mass effect, but i do not know if that is the cause, or even how to over-ride direct x 11 with 9.0c, if i need to.

any constructive input is appreciated.

and yes, i have verified the integrity of the game cache and defragmented the game files. (i had a problem with that in the past)

got it to run by setting it to run as administrator. (windows 7 newbie mistake).
