No 2da editing needed

I guess I'm confused because on the wiki http://nwn2.wikia.co...kydome_Tutorial

It says I will need:

x_skydome_generic. MDB from your Program files\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\Data
directory (it is in the file NWN2_models_v07.zip, so you need to
extract it).

I see folders titled "data" and "database" but when I look in either of them I do not see "x_skydome_generic"

I thought that I could find it when searching for it with the MDB editor but I had no luck. With the MDB editor I looked in both the documents/nwn2 and in the main C:\\nwn2  locations... if that makes any sense.

I see now I was trying to look for the NWN2_models_v107 with the mdb editor and the winzip program. I should have just gone straight to the nwn2/data folder and started that way.
Anyway I think I have it worked out now.

*bump*

I'm currently toying with skydomes, and after some initial excitement seem to have hit a wall again. So, I assume the game is not smart enough to actually change a skybox on the fly? Which makes me wonder why you can set a skybox for every single day/night cycle stage. All that is possible seems to be using one and the same skybox for all stages, right? Which is a major bummer, because I'd really like to get rid of the silly stars of the default night sky.
After playing around with bloom settings I was at least able to darken my sky a lot at night, but it's still far from being a night sky, plus the reduced bloom also affects light sources and darkvision too much. I like the day however.

Day

Night

So am I missing something here and the skydome can actually change in a running game? Or has someone maybe an idea how I can just get rid of the default stars and moon?

Ditto what M.Rieder said. Very nice looking sky. Not sure about the skyboxes (as I thought the skyring was immutable and there was no skybox per se.) Hopefully Hellfire will see this and respond soon.

I have never made a set of sky's representing the different times of say. I would say of you set the right sky domes under the right times of day they should transition correctly, but I have never actually tried.

Exactly that was my assumption too, that if I set different skies for daytime and nighttime, they'd change in game. Wrong. The cycle only uses one model, and that's the one you set in "default", every other option is apparently ignored. If anyone actually saw a different behavior though, I'm really hoping to be proven wrong.

If all fails, does anybody know which graphics file or vfx or whatever is responsible for the default stars at night, and where I can find the moon? I searched a bit through the data files but couldn't find them yet.

For the moon, in your install directory:

..\\Data\\NWN2_Materials.zip\\NWN2_Materials\\fx_moon.dds

I performed many many tests this weekend on custom sky domes. It does seem to be a fact that if you want day night sky transition, you must stick with the default sky. Custom sky domes will not change.

The sky domes look so good that I would be willing to fudge it with a little artificial transition. Maybe a brief cutscene hearalding the setting or rising of the sun to replace the transition that happens automatically with the default sky.

That's definitely a huge bummer; I've been looking into this as well and couldn't find a solution. So, there doesn't seem to be any way to change the default sky at all so that it continues to change with the time of day dynamically?

Hey Hellfire,

How did you do the video capture for that video. I've been trying different programs and different approaches and can't come anywhere near to the video you posted here. What program are you using?

Fraps. I have used Fraps forever. I started using it in my OLD OLD flight sim days.

Master Changer said the same thing. Are you able to record full screen with reasonable FPS? I can get CamStudio up to 20-30 FPS if I shrink the recording window down small enough, but it's a big hassle to mess with the NWN2 ini file every time I want to record screen videos, so I'm going to check out FRAPS tonight.
