Hey guys, I'm having some issues with installing Awakening.

I tried installing Awakening last night, and my console reads the disc as Dragon Age Origins. I thought this was odd. I installed the game to the HDD, and although it did successfully install (it takes up a good 5.4gb of space), when I put in my actual Origins disc and go to the main menu, I get no trace of Awakening existing on the console. I went to new game, and it just went straight to the opening cinematic. I had no choice of selecting Awakening at all.

What am I doing wrong? Is this a bad disc of Awakening, or does the 360 version not work like this? Has anyone else had this problem? The XBL marketplace says the expansion file size is only 2gb, so why is my install 5.4gb? I don't see how purchasing the game from the marketplace or installing the actual disc to the HDD would be any different in file size or work any different as far as playing it.

Please help! :crying:

when you turn on your xbox, select play Dragon Age Origins. When the game starts up, press start. After connecting to the dragon age servers and checking downloadable content (done automatically) select New Game. This is where you can then choose between DA:O and Aawakening. Im on 360 and that works for me. The game didnt install as a seperate entity for me, it was installed under the DA:O game.  Not sure about file sizes. hope this helps?

Which disc did you have in the system when you play? And would you be able to check and see how big the install file size is on your HDD? It's under the Memory tab under the System Settings tab. I'm just trying to make a comparison.

And I said before, "when I put in my actual Origins disc and go to the main menu, I get no trace of Awakening existing on the console. I went to new game, and it just went straight to the opening cinematic. I had no choice of selecting Awakening at all." :/

When you want to play Awakenings you need to put the Awkenings disc in the tray not the Origins disc
it's an Expansion remember not an addon/DLC
if you do that it should work fine
I have both on the 360 HD and it works without any problems
just think of  it as if Awakening is an other game, you cant play HALO if you have the COD disc in the tray can you?

I don't know what strange consoles  you guys have but i cant play Awkenings when the Origins disc is in he tray:blush:
the menu only comes up with DLC

I can choose Origins or Awakening with the Awakening disc in, but can only actually play Awakening - if I choose Origin, it prompts for the right disc.

If I have the Origins disc in, I don't get a choice to play Awakening.

Neither is installed on my XBox HD, except for saves, obviously. Both run off disc.

That's what i meant but i don't get choose either way it just prompts for the right disk.
either way it works provided the correct disc is inserted;)

So to play Awakening, I need to have the disc in the tray.

So then what would be the point of installing it onto the HDD? And how would it have worked if I downloaded it from the marketplace?

yes, you need the correct disc in the tray.
it will load  cutsequences and additonal stuff fater then reading everything from cd
when you DL a digital version it has a the CD info it needs to verify as genuine either downloaded  with the game or
it checks something on the web, in combination with a key, so no need for a cd/dvd

If you DL'd it from Marketplace, you'd still need the Origins disc in to play it. Not sure if it's faster or not. I have Golems DL'd, and can play it with either disc in the tray - not sure it runs faster than either Origins or Awakening, but I suppose it might be.

As for why to DL rather than buy the disc, preference, or availability, I guess - don't see any real benefit otherwise.

Hmm. I'm at work right now, but I'll have to try this again when I get home. I might have jumped the gun and assumed something wasn't working last night.

Might be worthless to mention, but my main reason for concern is because I bought Awakening from a popular second hand store that I work for in my area for $13, and I'd like to be able to install the disc and sell it back to the store for $10, thus only paying $3. ;)

But if I install the disc to my HDD and it's still needed to play, then I can't exactly achieve this exploit!

nope not on xbox but for PC you need to get a noCD crack for it to work without having the cd
maybe you can get it from rapidshare for the xbox but you still need to burn it to dvd first
and then there's all sorts of problems to get it to work, a friend tried it but could not get it to work
so we sort of gave up on it

But what I'm not understanding is how would one play it if they were to simply buy it off of the XBL Marketplace? What would be the difference between buying a digital download that installs to your HDD and installing it to the HDD yourself off the disc?

The XBL DLC you purchase of Awakening would include a file or some code in the 2GB download that would have the verification or whatever that would've been on the physical DVD of the game expansion.

Hm...missed this one.

You will need the disc. It's Microsoft's anti-piracy measure.
