I have seen a few posts talking about moving nif files from Oblivion the Elder scrolls over to DA:O. Is this done via blender ?

Or another type of program?

I only ask as there is some nice armour and weapons in Oblivion I would like to try and see if I can get it into DA:O.

Presumably Blender I would imagine. Certainly all the initial Oblivion/Fallout 3 ports were done that way and unless there is some standalone NIF converter I assume most (if not all) still are.

there are also nif tools for 3dsmax and gmax - with eshmes max tools for da:o there is also a high chance for a successful port.

importing armor is more difficult than weapons, I believe.

It shouldn't be overly difficult for users of Eshme's Max/GMax script, as long as the NIF tool preserves weighting/skin info. It would be more difficult for Blender users due to the comparative lack of featureset in their DA script.

I was thinking of making it compatible for the characters models (I'm looking at you, dwarf :P)

Well that's a whole other kettle of fish and really has no particular relevance to ports of armour from other games. Any one model, regardless of its source, is obviously going to be insufficient if you want versions for all races and sexes.
