In the previous Dragon Age game, you could either have Morrigan, Leliana or Zevran (if you were a guy anyway). I hate having to choose. Why can't I simply explain to all my parties (in my case, Morrigan and Leliana) the benefits of polygamy and that "sharing me" has its benefits? Since Hawke is going to be a king (or queen depending on the gender you choose) and since Kings have been known to have multiple wives, what's wrong with me settling down with more than one love interest?

If they all just cave in to your reasoning, it doesn't make them feel like real characters with their own personalities. If it fits their characters, though, I don't see anything wrong with it.

After all, Bioware did it in Jade Empire, with Silk Fox and Dawn Star.

You can marry Alistair/Anora and still keep your love interest (Leliana/Zevran). So, you could do it in Origins if you were a noble.

Edit: Although I agree with earlier posters, it is kind of lame. The Silk Fox and Dawn Star I thought was funny and kind of lessened the impact of the relationships.

I kinda juggled competing love interests in DAO.  I romanced Morrigan first, then Leliana, and went back to Morrigan for the Dark Ritual.  We (Morrigan and I) parted as friends and Leliana was still in love with me.

Most people don't have multiple people they are in serious relationships with. What I think you mean is why can't your character have sex with whomever you want or have that part of the game not so closely tied in to the whole true love story that Bioware does in all their games. I'd have to say it does seem strange in the way Bioware writes their romances between characters. Lets face it most people don't wait until they decide they are in love with each other before they start getting intimate. However, the romantic options in any Bioware game are not so cheap or shallow for the whole friends with benefits. I guess that is why they put a brothel in DAO.

But ultimately, they can only put so many choices and consequences in one game.  The choices we can make really depend on what the writers give us and that's the way it has to be (imo) for the story to be any good.

I agree (I think?). In both DAO and ME, you are allowed to say "Hey, why can't I keep both of you?" and the end result is not what you desire, of course. 

There are very, very few people who are open to polygamy. Even if one person in your party is, the chances of having two people in that party with the same tastes? Uh-uh. I think the Dawn Star/Silk Fox thing was really, really stretching it. It came off as more of a wet dream then anything to do with their characters.

OF course it is rare to see someone normal up for it...but....our companions are anything but normal/mentally stable...
