Having finally finished LotSB (what a charming acronym) I can honestly say I liked it a lot. However, I do think Overlord was even better, story-wise. I was hoping to see more chances for role-playing in LotSB, but unfortunately the whole business of getting rid of the Shadow Broker was extremely straight-forward. No finesse whatsoever, not much tactics, just endless shooting against hordes of agents. I guess the new Liara is more of a Rambo than a James Bond.

I suppose if Liara hadn't been my Shepard's love interest, I would have gotten much less out of LotSB. The romance part, however, was really well done. Tactful, nothing over the top and awkward. Probably one of the most well-written and acted romance scenes in any CRPG (not that the standards are very high to begin with - for some reason, most romantic stuff in video games is ridiculously bad).

In short, I mostly like the way BioWare's DLC's are developing. The stuff we've lately got for ME2 has been quite good, DA not so much. But please don't diminish the RPG aspects of ME in the future - there's more than enough action in the game already.

I agree with ya, Broker was more kill, kill, and more killing while Overlord felt like you were playing another game. So much darker - Overlord.

But Broker integrated better with the storyline no matter when you actually did the Broker mission. Overlord feels out of place when you overwrite the Geth and bring Legion to Tali's loyalty mission and learn that hacking doesn't last forever so ...

I dont think TiM will go after Liara as it'll be the fastest way of pissing my paragon Shepard off.

Same here. And pissing off my Shepard tends to result in a bad case of YOUR HEAD EXPLODING.

One thing I wish is that there was more dialogue available for after you've invited her up to the Normandy. Even if it was just a couple of dialogue options, it would have been better than "Thanks for coming by".

I do understand the reason for why there was no companion dialogue in LOTSB: it would have meant bringing in all twelve voice actors for the crew. As it stands, they only needed Mark Meer (Male!Shep), Jennifer Hale (Fem!Shep), Ali Hillis (Liara), and the VAs for Vasir, Feron, and the Shadow Broker.

Well, I played the dlc a second time and discovered I missed some stuff..like all the intel and such in the SB's lair. Walked right past it the first time. :P

Also, I used slam on the hull of that big ship. Watching the enemy get swept up in the storm while being fried by lightning...wonderful stuff.

Like many, I would have liked more story, but the levels and combat were pretty damn good.

yeah, I finished it twice so far. for second time, as you said, I tried to see what I missed in first play. that electric generators saved lots of ammo during combat. yeah, it's fun to watch that enemies got fried, and knock down, flew away by storm.

I don't have any complaints about this DLC. It seemed Bioware listened to its fans (the not frothing at the mouth ones at least) and basically addressed many of their concerns. Hell, they addressed ALL of mine. Romance "resolution", at least as far as a middle sequel can go? Check. Clearing up Liara's strange "attitude" and making her character fleshed out? Check. ME 2 to ME 3 bridging? Yep. On top of that, well-written, well-voiced, and just the right amount of action and character building. If Bioware makes ME 3 squad interactions as good as the ones with Liara, then we have a lot to look forward to.

As for those who don't buy this DLC (if you buy no others this would be the one to buy so far IMO), I imagine Liara will still be in her new role but you'll have to deal with a simple e-mail or communication that she had to do it herself. Sort of lame? Yes. But I am glad to see DLC can have actual plot influence beyond "cool weapons!!!!".

I loved this DLC, and I had no problems with it but after I played it 7 or 8 times I thought of something that (to me) would have made the Tela Vasir fight even more awesome. If we were fighting a 2 or 3 man squad For ex. Tela Vasir and a strong buddy, ( like Tazzik). That would've made it more challenging ( it was already challenging on the harder modes, especially if you drop your thermal clips) besides wiping out generic engineer mercs that I take out all the time. I mean, I know some Spectres like to work alone but some have to have some help right...and where was Tazzik? but anyways, I would give this DLC a 9/10 because the romance was just......... awesome!

^ Yeah I wonder what will happen to Tazzik... Technically, Liara can still use him, so you would think there's now a possibility in future we might be able to work with him... not sure she would want to though, unless she's really shrewd about it...

I loved the ending of this DLC. Finally my Shepard got a chance to voice his opinions and open up a bit. It was nice, after having spent 2 games basically acting as a psycho-therapist for all and sundry, to have someone ask how I felt. It really helped humanise Shepard, and the bit after Liara leaves your cabin and you see Shepard sat alone on his bed saying "Come back soon" really made me realise just how alone Shepard is in all of this, and how much it's probably weighing on his mind.

The last section of the DLC after you defeated the Shadow Broker was worth the price of admission for me alone. Good stuff Bioware, more like this in ME3, please.

Good point. LotSB fits better in the game, and it doesn't really matter in which order you complete all the other quests. I like it that Overlord gives us the opportunity to explore a world just like it used to be possible in ME1 with the Mako. LotSB is much more limited in this respect. Roleplaying-wise, the excellent romance ending saved LotSB for me. But othewise Overlord does have a better story and also a great ending. And as an old gamer, the System Shock feeling I get from Overlord doesn't hurt either. ;)

so the shadow broker has like 1 line of dialogue for the extra squaddie you bring in. I only brought grunt, and he said something about okeer's project

what are the other squadmate's dialogues?

I thought Shadow Broker was really well done -- one of my favorite bits of DLC for any game.

I was particularly glad to hear so much Shepard/Liara banter, even during combat. I hope they do more of that for the future DLC and ME3 (and, hell, Dragon Age 2), because it was great.

I'm a little sad that Liara likely won't be a squad member going forward since she'll be busy at her fancy new supercomputer, but I'll live.

I would have liked a renegade ending where you kill Liara and then choose whether to let the SB live (bad implications in the future) or kill him and become the SB myself.

Hopefully we'll get a chance to kill IM and become the head of Cerebus/shut it down in me3.

I'd like some Fallout style RPG decisions.

I don't get how people think the 'romance the blue chick' option = role playing. This was a very shallow DLC for an rpg. Its more like a CoD DLC.

But it was fun.

The SB was pretty lame. Just a brute force guy who was easy to kill. Easy to find too. Hardly what I imagine a scary information broker at the root of everything to be like.

The Shadow Broker's intel probe reminds me a lot of the Librarian from the first Halo.

I think that part that surprised me the most about LotSB was after the scene with Liara on the Normandy, fem!Shep has a different animation to the default. She actually keeps her legs together for once.

I have a question:

If I never romanced Liara in the first game, is it possible to start a romance in this DLC?

if not, if I start a new game in Mass effect TWO (I don't have one anymore) then is it possible to start a new romance?

No, on both counts. You can always get Gibbed's save game editor and use that to essentially 'create' a save to import. There's a guide to do so somewhere floating around the interweb.

I've seen several people mention this, but I'm not sure what exactly folks are talking about. Where exactly has the animation changed? I just don't remember Shepard sitting at any point during the DLC...

It's when you invite Liara up to your cabin for drinks. If you're not on the romance path with her, when you say goodbye, Shepard's sitting on the bed.

I was puzzled at first too, but you can ONLY be friends w/ Liara to get this option.

Excellent DLC, well worth the price, my only complaint is Liara after all the conversation was done. "Happy to see you" or whatever. They could have at least had a looping dialog, maybe an option to kiss or hug, something similar to DAO. I don't know.

Very, very good. Thank BW.

Ah, thanks to both who answered! I've only done the LI path w/her, which explains why I haven't seen it.

Liked the DLC a lot. With this DLC, Liara beats every other NPC personality in depth and character. Incredibly well done. Played it four times in a row.

Minor gripes:

- Giving no other option than to trust a SPECTRE who appears so conveniently and in time at that crime site? WTF!? To quote Joker: "You don´t send SPECTREs on a shakedown-run!"

- Realism for boss fights; how many liters of blood do asari have? And MY vanguard charges and shoots point blank, not the opposite...

- Liara has got dirty teeth; or just a problem for my graphic card?
