I alwys try to pick the wise mystic sort of class. Most often this leads me to the more tatical class or the caster class. I want to feel like the general. The master of the battlefeild.

This is why I choose Adept in ME1 (which I started a long time ago with a gold build im pretty proud of. but thats besides the point)

However, in combat, I often found that locking some big guys down with lift, and pumping acouple of shotgun shells in my giant singularity was all I needed to do.
And as far as the more RP elements of things.... It was hard to feel like a wise/powerful badass when every brainless bloodthirsty krogan and every other rent-a-merc standing guard at the local mall has gotten a surgery to magically own stuff with that blue glow. Followed of corse by the ever familar "ill destroy you!"

And it seems like it may be a similar situation in ME2.
Jax. an uber aggressive single minded 24/7 PMSing ball of rage.
And yet she is one of the most powerful biotics out there.

Kinda makes biotics seem more meh when anyone can be one.

So. I Was woundering about the sentinal. How many other mobs have that chill unique looking armor?
How many biotics do you see in game?
How does the sentinal play vs the adept?
Which playstyle makes you feel like the leader?
Which one is more tatical?
Which one is more fun?
Which one is more effective on insanity?

Also. What are the changes between ME1 and ME2? By that I mean, can you change your tallent points after each playthrough? Are there still bonus talents or weapon spealizations? So you have to unlock them? Are there still really benificial ally acheivment rewards incentivizing you to play the whole game with just two members?

That was allot of ramble. But im most interested in what is bolded

PS: Thinking I want to go woth the pistol this time. Is it still good?
PPS: I have DOA and ME2. How do I get the blood armor?

Anyways, those are my intro questions.

Hello, my name is Zenjamin.

See ya round.

1. I don't understand what you're asking
2.The sentinel is much more resilient, and can handle more defenses, but the adept is much better with CC and can warp bomb like crazy with singularity.
3.Hmmm when I think of leader, I think of a Shep that utilizes his/her squadmates to their fullest and utilizes what everyone brings to the table. For this reason, I choose the adept. They rely most heavily on squadmates, and feel like you're really utilizing the "best and brightest" you speend the whole game recruiting.
4. Hmmm the adept/sentinel/engineer seem the most tactical to me. They require they use of more diverse tactics and powers. They don't spam one power like some classes tend to do.
5. Hmm for me, it's either the adept or the soldier. Polar opposites, but I still find them both quite fun to play. The adpet requires much more skill, and isn't as easy though.
6.Soldier hands down. AR is a monster skill, and the mattock/widow/GPS is too much firepower for one man/woman to carry

Hope this helped

I don't have experience with all the classes (I've only gotten the full way through with Soldier, Infiltrator, and Adept) so I can't offer much insight on the best "tactical" class and "most fun" is somewhat subjective. If you're into casting classes however, you should know that ME2 changed the way many biotic and tech powers work.

Enemies now have additional defences that work differently than they did in ME1. In addition to a heatlh bar, more powerful enemies will have one of three defences - armour, shields, and biotic barriers. Some bosses will have more than one. This can be a problem for casters because many powers can only be used against unprotected enemies or only against one of the defence types. For example, Lift can only be used against unprotected enemies while Warp is effective only against barriers and armour. As you crank up the difficulty, more enemies will have defences. You might want to take this into consideration when you choose your class.

Regarding your comment about preferring Adept for ME1, Adepts are still fairly powerful because of their variety of biotic powers but have trouble with shields. If you know you're going to be facing shielded enemies (hint - Blue Suns and Eclipse will often be shielded), make sure to bring the right backup.

Well, the most tactical classes would have to be the Infiltrator and the Engineer.

The most fun class would be the Vanguard. Nothing's more fun than bull-rushing the enemy ranks to Oblivion.

The most effective classes for Insanity are definitely Solider and Sentinel. Both are walking tanks(Soldiers are offensive, and Sentinels are defensive), and they have everything they need to take down enemy defenses at their disposal.

You most often see the Sentinel armor look on mini-boss mobs. They're always the toughest ones to take down. And they all seem to only be via merc bands, certain merc bands have a prefrence to types of members. For instance Blue Suns I believe often have Vanguard like as there top tanks (Biotic Barriers with Shotguns throwing warps). Shep-Vanguard doesn't even get warp so...

I would say if your looking for that wise tactical commander thing, Sentinel makes some sense. I would view them like a Paladin almost when it comes to fantasy RPG's (well.. DnD). They're Tanks. They can take a hell of a beating and keep going, all there powers are based around stripping defenses with Warp and Overload - which covers all 3. Or keeping things from moving with Throw and Cryoblast.

Later on you get a bonus talent you can throw into the mix to add more versatility. And there's also the bonus weapon halfway through-ish. Now as for weapons they all have there good points. Pistols are good at stripping down armor, Predator Heavy Pistol is probably the best if your looking to use 'only' that pistol, the Carnifax just doesn't have the ammo to support any kind of mildly extended firefight. It pretty much exists to be a secondary weapon that's good at stripping armor quickly. But Sentinels also get SMG's (one of which isn't really an SMG...) both work good, held like pistols though the actual SMG (tempest) is kinda big for that heh looks silly sometimes. Either way its pretty good, oddly more accurate then the Shuriken if you burst fire it.

As for that bonus weapon you'd get to pick between Sniper, Shotgun or Assault rifle at some point. Shotgun works wonders on the Sentinel due to there tankyness. Makes it easier to get into mobs faces and unload a round. Sniper would give you more 'range' let you sit back. Vipers real good at that. Some of this changes if you get the Firepower pack. The pistol that adds, the Phalanx, is kinda like the Carnifax excepte its dmg/fire speed and has extra ammo make it more suited as a primary weapon like the Predator. Also Geth Plasma Shotgun would make a great primary weapon for a Sentinel, with its charge up capability. The rounds actually home in on targets if you hold the left trigger down. Its a slow turn homing though so can miss but fires fast, makes it real easy to hit your target with a full charge.

-edit-
Looks like I took to long,  but after reading the folks before me I want to clarify something fongiel said and I'll use Warp as the example. Most skills will list what they're 'effective' against. This basically means what they do x2 dmg against. a fully upgraded Heavy Warp does 200 dmg base (not counting passives or upgrades to increase that). Now against Barriers and Armor bars the skill will do 400 dmg. Everything else (shields included) it will do the normal 200 dmg listed. Warp has some other interesting side effects, the biotic Detonation. This can only be applied to 3 skills in the game though. Vortex, Lift and Slam (slam is a bonus). You can only detonate Slam while its 'lifting' the target into the air to so if you use that skill on a Sentinel, you would have to use a squadmade's warp to detonate it. Only 2 squadmates have Warp but having 1 with youw ould let you do that. Anything cought in the Warp detonation radius takes the x2 dmg the target took + they all get thrown back via force like they where hit by a throw.

So basically just cause a power says its effective against said defense types doesn't mean thats ALL it can harm. Some powers though will litterally only harm said bars, such as ammo powers and I believe the bonus skill energy drain will only harm Shields, or synthedic Shield/HP bars. But even a throw will harm shield/armor/hp. Just not a lot.

If you're asking which class is the most "caster-y," either of the three casters (Adept, Sentinel, Engineer) can give you that feel of not needing gunplay. Sentinel is probably the easiest to start the game with - that shield makes you very tough to take down, and they are the only class that can strip all three defenses by themselves, giving you lots of flexibility in picking your squad.

As for most "mental", you definitely want a class with tech abilities for RP. I always get mystified when my Adept pulls out an omni-tool, and it pulls me right out of the game; it gets worse when I've got no techs in the party (e.g. the intro mission) and I'm gleefully hacking away.Again, Sentinel can pull this off quite well - they are definitely the number one "mind over matter" class.

However, Sentinels tend toward straight up blasting with their powers, while Adepts and Engineers can get a bit more control in (e.g. summoning, disabling) which may make you feel more like a "mage." So it's up to you.

Sentinel is the most versatile, it allows you to play many different styles. You can be excellent power caster, assault sentinel or mix of the two. Soldier is also very good starting class. I would recommend these two classes to a new player.

Vanguard is the most fun, for me.

On my Sentinel playthru, I definately had more of the "general behind the lines" kinda feel with it. I played a Caster Sentinel, instead of the oft-touted Assault Sentinel.

The main difference (for the Sentinel) in ME2 is that it has Tech Armor. You can reach a point fairly early in the game where cooldowns are low enough that it doesn't take much to keep Tech Armor up fairly permanently. Tech armor boosts your shields, and when it gets shot away, has a nice "explosion" thingy to it that knocks down unprotected targets, and does a good bit of damage on the way. Alot of people have used it as a means to play ultra aggressively, quite successfully, in fact. I prefer the caster version of the class, myself, where I'm not in the middle of close-in combat, kinda staying back, directing my squadmates, and using my powers to supplement my squad. That's my particular bent on the class, and it's what it sounds like you're after.

There are quite good guides on how to build and play a caster Sentinel on this forum. I'd suggest you start there, if this is more what you're talking about.

Just for kicks, here's an early pic of my Infiltrator, Norrin. Very tactical class, but I've also hacked it a little so he can carry both the widow and shotguns, along with the submachine guns and pistols. Reave is probably my favorite new biotic ability in me2, especially heavy reave. Would have just edited my original post, but i'm posting from my vibrant.

Vanguard is the most tactical especially on hardcore and above. If you are not constantly aware of your battlefield surroundings, you'll get moved down.

Based on this, I think you'd like the build discussed here.

As far as my personal 'most fun' class, I like them all but Vanguard takes top honors.  But Vanguard's are more of a glass cannon, burst damaging speed freak with their high risk / high reward playstyle than a tactical general of the battlefield.  So for what you would seem to enjoy, again I point you to the link.

Each class has its own feeling depending on how you play it. Normally you can play classes at least with two fundamentally different playstyles with gray-zones in between like there are codes in this game.
But in short:

Soldier: Damage Dealer
Adept: Crowd Control
Engineer: Crowd Control/Defense Stripping
Sentinel: Meatshield/Defense Stripping
Vanguard: IN YOUR FACE!!!1!
Infiltrator: Damage Dealer Guerilla-Style

I have enjoyed every class great times and recommend to play all of them at least once!

Thanks everybody,

Though I am definitly looking towards a biotic user. Either the adept or sentinel. I played my adept in ME1 like a vanguard. Shotgun, upclose, ect....

So am perhaps looking to sit back abit more with either a pistol or a SR. But less reliant on guns in general.

Crowd control I love. Just dont like that every other mob seems to be a biotic of some sort.

Can the sentinel walk into the middle of the fight and have similar CC abilities to the adept, only without singularity?

Also, can you switch classes without starting all over?

Meaning: if I get to lv20 on my first playthrough on hardcore with the adept, could I start a sentinel at lv 20 on insanity on my second playthrough?

No. But I *think* you can use save editor to change your class. Never tried it myself though.

I think sentinels make better warp bombers but pull provides better CC than throw and singularity provides better CC than anything in the sentinel's arsenal. It also depends on the difficulty you choose to play on since harder difficulties introduce more defenses where singularity becomes even more important.

Not without a save editor. NG+ imports your character as is. You can change your abilities up but your collector ship weapon and class remain the same.

Sentinels are blasters - they have very little CC. They are meant to either pop out of cover and peel defenses with impunity, or wade in with a shotgun and have their shield knock all the schlubs down who are focus-firing them and repair itself.

Adepts and Engineers are the kings of CC; both can lock down even protected enemies, while unprotected ones may as well be Pyjaks to the right builds.

Only class for that is Adept. Take the SR option on the collector mission. Sentinel is a mix class, so you will be using guns more often.

While you can import your ME1 character, this is NOT ME1. If you want crowd control, then go with adept. If you want guns, then go with soldier. Those two are at polar opposites in the game. Vanguard will play the closest to what you've described (rushing in a finishing with a shottie) but it's not exactly the same as ME1 and to some is the hardest class to get the hang of.

No. You can't start another character at lvl 20 from the begining. If you finish the game you can start a new game from the begining by importing your ME2 character. It's called NG+ (new game plus).

All the classes play differently than the others and can play differently depending on the player as well. They are all fun and really only limited by the player.

For myself, the order of play would be: Adept, Infiltrator, Vanguard, Soldier, Engineer.

It's easy, here's a link explaining how it's done - really helpful if you don't like the ME2 prologue for the 10th time <_<

Don't get SR playing one of the casters, zooming effect is quite annoying. Get a shotty or for some extra versatility go for AR training.

Absolutely! Adepts can be played almost the same as Assault Sentinels, just get Barrier or GSB to get in close plus Adepts have better CC abilities. Just do whatever you want to, there're numerous ways to play ME2 effectively, but having fun is most important.

:pinched:

It sucks that Bioware inadvertanly encourages you to play only one class by not letting you keep your points.
I would really like to do both... But starting from lv1 on insanity seems unlikely, so to do both, I need to play the game at least three times.
And work out which build/playstyle I want beforehand.

oh well. I suppose I should just get my work done and play.
I suspect I will enjoy the game enough that I will play all three.

Pistol, SG, and SR..... are all weapons I would like to try.
Vanguard, adept, and sentinal are all classes I would like to try.....

Now to find the best combo.... and builds....

F it. I should just get my reading for class done so I can just play already.

PS:
What is GSB?

Sentinel can still strike a good balance between casting and combat. If you give them a bonus power like dominate or neural shock they can control the battlefield too. If you can master flashbang grenade, they can lock down harbinger. But the strength of sentinel is stripping enemy defenses so that your squad can finish them off.

Sentinels are one of the few caster classes that make good snipers. They have enough armor to stand out of cover with a sniper rifle and take a few hits. Or they can charge with a shotgun.

If the OP wants multiple options in playstyle depending on mission, squad members, and terrain, sentinel or adept is the way to go.

Hehe, only 3 play throughs? LOL, I think I'm on my 13th and that's low compared to others here.

Plus, if you import a lvl60 ME1 character, that will start you out at lvl5 with a bunch of credits, etc. So, it's really not that bad.

Also, if you want to do NG+ each new play through, then just use Gibbed's save editor and change your class each time. No biggie and it's very easy to do :)

Yeah, you ultimately can play any class how you see fit (well sort of). Definitely can play most of them outside there sort of original intended purpose. Such as taking an Infiltrator and nabbing shotgun for a stealth close quarters blaster.

Anyways with the new DLC, if you get it 'Lair of the Shadow Broker'. New bonus power Stasis would fit amazingly well with a Sentinel to allow for high crowd control. It only effects 1 target at a time, but it - unlike all other powers - lets you bypass defenses for it to take effect. Meaning other then a few boss mobs that would make things to boring it'll always effect stuff you use it on. Haven't fully tested it yet but it also seems to make a bubble, seems like it may also work as a make-shift cover out of whoever you turn into stasis (I don't think you can physically 'take cover' on it but it blocks bullet/rockets).

-edit-
Sadly can't be used as cover via the 'bubble' it makes. Looks like the bubble is whats keeping it in stasis. The person them selves, however does block bullets and rockets just like they all normally do excepte they're kept stationary. So a big Mech would make a hell of a stationary wall.
