This sounds like a fairly recent purchase. Have you tried playing other graphically intense games on this machine?

Follow these instructions to stop Windows 7 from automatically restarting if the OS crashes. Once that's turned off, try starting a ME2 game again so that you trigger this shutoff.
If you now get a Blue Screen Of Death, it should give you a file name (e.g. "atievxx.dll") as part of the error. Write the down the file name, it should help you (or someone here) figure out where the crash is occurring - drivers most likely.
If the computer still shuts itself off/restarts at that point, despite turning off automatic restart, it's probably time to consider if it's faulty hardware.

For some reason, when ever I play the game, in about 3 to 5 minutes, the system will shutdown. The temps are all normal too. Also, I run Mafia II and Battlefield BC2 all max'd out without having this problem, and those are more graphics intense games than ME2. So it would strain my hardware far more. My machine is also only like 3 days old. I did a clean install and all drivers are updated.
The specs:
Area 51 ALX
i7 980x
3x 5870 Trifire
1.2KW PSU
W7 Ultimate x64
6GB DDR3 1600 Kingston HyperX
The game is updated to the latest patch (1.02) and has all DLC downloaded from BioWare.

Also if you stack multiple video cards, no manufacturer seems to have worked out how to have proper airflow. The best way I have seen to keep a stack cool is to install a liquid cooling system.
Edit: I just looked up the PC in question, and all I can say is good luck. Since Dell took direct control of Alienware quality has suffered.

But I actually found out my problem, and heat is not the issue. It is somehow related to the power supply. Even though I have 1.2KW of power, which would be more than enough for 3 HD 5870s, the stock PSU does not have enough amperage.
I removed one card, and my system no longer crashes/shuts down anymore. I tried swapping the cards around too, making sure neither was faulty, and they all work perfectly individually or in 2 way Crossfire.

As for the power supply, not all of them perform as they are rated too. I found that out with a non-name one that dropped from 600 watts to around 400 watts in the first 6 months of ownership, after that it fried and took almost everything in my case with it.
If you get Dell to replace it, try to demand at least a bronze rated one...silver or gold if you can. For more info on what I am talking about: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/80_PLUS

Heh. In "Dell Land" there is no such thing. Just Dell parts. Its not like they stick Corsair or Thermaltake PSU's in these systems. They are custom made for the unit. And not only that, it has some proprietary connections so I cannot even swap it out myself for a nicer one.
I tried the drivers too.....no go. I tried all the way back to the 10.4 drivers, and I get the same problem. I know its not driver related in my case.
So basically, I am stuck with using just 2 of them for now. I will probably get a supplementary PSU later on when I actually need the extra juice out of my system.

As for the joy of getting a custom power supply, this is one of the main reasons why I build computers. The other is I can recycle parts from my old PC into a newer one. Finlay with $4000 USD I could build something like your PC, but using standard parts and this case: http://www.newegg.co...1&Tpk=antec 183
Oh and if you want something a bit cooler temp wise (not looks wise) try this case:

I can't imagine spending more than $3000, and that would be with twin HD 5970s at $1000 each.DarkWaterSong wrote...

I have built custom computers myself, and I agree they are the best. I am just kinda stuck with this machine for now which is why I am just putting up with it. Everything works fine now. I think that other ALX user should also try to remove his second video card or upgrade the BIOS of the card on Dell's website.
