Have you already maxed graphics?? If not, it may be 64bit issue, but that just seems irrational as I also have a 64 bit pc and its more or less exactly like yours, but no problems here.

If you don't allready have, update your graphics driver to the newest version.

Updating ATI drivers is certainly a good idea.

This sounds like a fairly recent purchase. Have you tried playing other graphically intense games on this machine?

yeah i have played Just cause 2 and batman arkham asylym with the directx on 11 and it has not been a problem, on at least batman but i have had the same issue of sort on just cause 2 that it on one point in the game just shutsdown and restarts the computer(if it might help).

I can't imagine what could be causing your machine to crash, other than getting the latest video and audio drivers and updating them. Dell does not include the latest many times, so check it, it may work. Good Luck!

If it's done this in more than one game, it sounds like either problematic drivers, or a problem with your actual hardware.

Follow these instructions to stop Windows 7 from automatically restarting if the OS crashes. Once that's turned off, try starting a ME2 game again so that you trigger this shutoff.

If you now get a Blue Screen Of Death, it should give you a file name (e.g. "atievxx.dll") as part of the error. Write the down the file name, it should help you (or someone here) figure out where the crash is occurring - drivers most likely.

If the computer still shuts itself off/restarts at that point, despite turning off automatic restart, it's probably time to consider if it's faulty hardware.

i maneged to postpone the crash by reinstaling the game and now a get a crash when speaking to kasumi. Kloreep i did as instructed and it was to no avail it just shutsdown and reboot with no blod or any error message at all. i have started to give up hope that i will ever fix this and that me2 that worked like a charm on my xps720 with xp sp3 will NEVER work with my new area51 and win7 that i spent a fortune on. life sure is cruel sometimes.

You're not the first person to have that crash at Kasumi. In the two cases where I saw someone solve it, it seemed faulty hardware was involved. One person solved it by switching the power cord their video card was hooked up to, as they had extra connectors of the right type. The other solved it by underclocking their video card. You might try similar solutions yourself. On the other hand, since you say this was also happening in Just Cause 2, you might want to see about getting Dell to help you out, since it sounds like some piece of hardware (likely either the power supply or a video card) isn't quite right.

yeah i have contacted them and they seam to be at a loss to and i have done an system check with the alienware cd and it concluded that it was no harware problems, but the last time i talked to them they where gonna send a technitian to change the powercord and the part that is in the computer (don't know what it's called in english) because it starts and after 10-15 seconds it crashes and reboots in a simelar way as the games so i will hope that it will be the thing that will fix it but not likely, but it is a start anyway. unfortanly they called me from germany and told me the part was unavalible at the moment(figures) and that i cold thake a while to aquier.

Are you german? If yes, did you mean the Netzteil? It's called Power Supply Unit in English.

Hey guys, I am actually having the same problem here, and its the same exact system, except for the video cards.

For some reason, when ever I play the game, in about 3 to 5 minutes, the system will shutdown. The temps are all normal too. Also, I run Mafia II and Battlefield BC2 all max'd out without having this problem, and those are more graphics intense games than ME2. So it would strain my hardware far more. My machine is also only like 3 days old. I did a clean install and all drivers are updated.

The specs:

Area 51 ALX

i7 980x

3x 5870 Trifire

1.2KW PSU

W7 Ultimate x64

6GB DDR3 1600 Kingston HyperX

The game is updated to the latest patch (1.02) and has all DLC downloaded from BioWare.

Hello all, how hot are your computers getting? One of the quickest ways to get a computer to reboot is if any part overheats, and newer video cards put out a TON of heat. I have two 120mm fans in a duct blowing directly on my Geforce 9800 GTX+ and it still gets pretty hot, but before I added the fans I had freezing problems.

Also if you stack multiple video cards, no manufacturer seems to have worked out how to have proper airflow. The best way I have seen to keep a stack cool is to install a liquid cooling system.

Edit:  I just looked up the PC in question, and all I can say is good luck.  Since Dell took direct control of Alienware quality has suffered.

Yea that is pretty much the case. LOL.

But I actually found out my problem, and heat is not the issue. It is somehow related to the power supply. Even though I have 1.2KW of power, which would be more than enough for 3 HD 5870s, the stock PSU does not have enough amperage.

I removed one card, and my system no longer crashes/shuts down anymore. I tried swapping the cards around too, making sure neither was faulty, and they all work perfectly individually or in 2 way Crossfire.

Also try rolling back you driver, because sometimes newer drivers break things like Crossfire. There was a ton of issues with the EyeInfinty multiple monitor setup for ATI that cause crashing and the like.

As for the power supply, not all of them perform as they are rated too. I found that out with a non-name one that dropped from 600 watts to around 400 watts in the first 6 months of ownership, after that it fried and took almost everything in my case with it.

If you get Dell to replace it, try to demand at least a bronze rated one...silver or gold if you can. For more info on what I am talking about: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/80_PLUS

Heh. In "Dell Land" there is no such thing. Just Dell parts. Its not like they stick Corsair or Thermaltake PSU's in these systems. They are custom made for the unit. And not only that, it has some proprietary connections so I cannot even swap it out myself for a nicer one.

I tried the drivers too.....no go. I tried all the way back to the 10.4 drivers, and I get the same problem. I know its not driver related in my case.

So basically, I am stuck with using just 2 of them for now. I will probably get a supplementary PSU later on when I actually need the extra juice out of my system.

I would still complain to Dell, just because it should be under warranty.

As for the joy of getting a custom power supply, this is one of the main reasons why I build computers. The other is I can recycle parts from my old PC into a newer one. Finlay with $4000 USD I could build something like your PC, but using standard parts and this case: http://www.newegg.co...1&Tpk=antec 183

Oh and if you want something a bit cooler temp wise (not looks wise) try this case:

I can't imagine spending more than $3000, and that would be with twin HD 5970s at $1000 each.

Well I quoted that price because the Alienware ALX starts at $4000, and I can usually beat Dell by a decent margin. Now I normally build dual video card rigs w/ Quad cores, but that is more than enough to play most games at max settings.

Trust me, I didnt actually pay a dime for this system. I had an older XPS 730x that died and Dell replaced it with this under warranty. I would never buy one of these machines for the price. I could build a monster machine for the price. The actual cost of this machine was somewhere close to $5100 from configuring it on their website.

I have built custom computers myself, and I agree they are the best. I am just kinda stuck with this machine for now which is why I am just putting up with it. Everything works fine now. I think that other ALX user should also try to remove his second video card or upgrade the BIOS of the card on Dell's website.
