Guys, I bet they didn't have the PC versions done when they released that inflato fake installer.
They were running out of time to finish the DLC and put all their time in getting the 360 version done, so M§ is happy.
After that they started working on the PC version... And when the release came close and the PC DLC wasn't done, they just uploaded our 1,52 GB of 0s!

I seriously think that's true. Or why do you think they haven't explained to us what exactly caused the installer to be broken?

The conspiracies begin.

Better explanation: They churned out a dummy PC installer so that the pirate bay and the various torrent sites would be flooded with non-working junk versions curbing day one piracy, lessening average joe's faith in torrent files at being a viable means to attain working files, strengthening the notion that torrents and all piracy is inherently full of garbage non working and corrupted files - while still taking money from paying consumers.

Better, better explanation: Apple is secretly an evil intergalactic front for the Dark Lord Xenu, and broke into Bioware in order to delete the actual DLC and release a fake one in order to cause uproar among the PC community. Being evil, their plan is to channel our combined rage into a large spherical superlaser directed at the Earth in order to free the aforementioned fiend from his incarceration, damning the souls of all PC users in the process.
Damn you, Steve Jobs.

You do know that within an hour, the Xbox version was up on torrent sites right?

Console piracy is a bit harder than PC piracy, I suppose average joe doesn't know about jtags and softmods and whatever else they do these days.  It would be a measure to effect the bulk, since the remainder is more difficult to deal with.

Note: I don't buy into the conspiracy theory myself.  Just throwing that out there.

No need to be knowledgeable about those things. Look on craigslist..they advertise mod chips..50 bucks and there ya go....modded box able to play burned to disk software

I see what this is all about: Release a token of scorn unto the community so they have to go through the motions of downloading just to find they have received nothing, then post an update which makes it look like you're fixing the "problem", meanwhile Xbox gamers have downloaded, played, and beaten aforementioned content exacerbating the already seething platform-biased enmity. Then sit back reclining comfortably on the perfectly functional installer you have had the entire time and watch the forum rage pile up, until the arbitrarily ordained moment you have selected to release the functional executable. In essence, you give the sheep two release dates: the first is when you release the ringer that will incite the acrimonious hype among the lesser fan community, just so they know where they stand; The second release date is random, as far as the PC users are concerned—leaving a period in which they can meditate for a spell and reflect on their own incredible lameness and suckery. Well trolled, BioWare.
But you overlooked one detail: it's a lot funnier when the content being withheld will actually restore to the game some of the dignity its predecessor possessed. But of course all of that was stripped away in favor of turning the sequel into Gears of W'hore, and having been aware of that for some time, I personally wasn't expecting much. All you've done is bring hostility down on your indolent heads.
I may have no spine. I may have already paid for this. I may continue to download whatever empty calories and icing you choose to market in the future, no matter how exorbitantly priced. Any threats I might make would just be hollow. But there are only so many times you can disrespect a community before they give up on your vain attempts to round out your unfinished action RPG, third-person shooter, hallway-strolling, button-pushing digital young adult novella. You might think you don't need my money. Why would you? I'm just a pirating, rage-posting, PC-having stooge. But I think you'd miss that extra cash if it weren't there. Then how would you pay for all the blue hookers and blow? You'd have to make due with just the blue hookers. And what are blue hookers without blow? Nothing. That's what. Absolutely. Nothing. And that's what I think of you, right now. You're all doodoo heads and I do not like you very much.

So basically . . . I haven't the balls to abjure BioWare like I should. I don't have the deadness of spirit to admit to myself that Mass Effect will never be the free-roaming, legitimately choice-based role-playing extravaganza (with more maintenance and customization mechanics) that I want it to be.

But I hope someone out there does.

stop your whining you guys and grow up. you people are never saitisified. Ha i wouldnt be suprised if bioware didn't fix it all due to all your whining you guys are doing on here about this stuff. If you can't get over someone's mistake, don't come on this website at all.

General consensus is that the DLC is made up of 1.5gigas of zeros? Fun! It's a field day for conspiracy theorists! Someone GET OUT There and start translating! Maybe it's a clue to where the DLC went!

[Don't get me wrong, it was an unexcusable error on Bioware's part. I just think that dwelling over the error and getting irrationally upset about it is nonsense.

Bioware is one of the few devs that care about their fans as well as their $$ figures. That can't be said for a lot of other companies. They will surely come through with a fix soon.

Inexcusable?  That may be a little extreme, as I said before any number of things can cause a compilation error and yes it probably should have been sorted out before hand, but people are blowing this WAY out of proportion.  Yes it was a mistake, but the important thing is they are rectifying it.

I agree. There are many things that could have gone wrong, anywhere from compilation to upload server curruption. I am just saying that no one should bother with justification.  Either way I have the upmost respect for Bioware and their capabilities to fix this issue.

Hehe, this is definately excusable.. they'll have it up..  I'm not awfully worried.

But, if Bioware cared about their fans as much as their sales figures DA:O wouldn't still be as buggy as it is and ME2 would have had the same PC oriented controls and care put into it as the first..  Being a DLC prioritized company says it all anyway though..  I'm still gonna grab LotSB, but DA2, I'm up in the air on, rushing a game out that quickly while making it more "action" oriented doesn't instill a lot of confidence in the direction Bioware is headed.. imo..

Anyone else feel that the identity of the Shadow Broker was a HUGE letdown. They've been building up this subplot since the first game and that's IT? Seriously?

Nice, best post of the day.

I agree.
And that "PC release" full of 00 is a thing I did not expect from Bioware.
Eh.. time to rest..

It's only 6PM in Edmonton and programmers usually start late so I bet they're still there. I'm curious to what happened, though. They undoubtedly QA'd the build and use proper version control so how did this one get put up on the site? Some sort of file corruption?

And since they didn't fix it right away, I'm guessing that they are having to at least rebuild it - or fetching a tape backup. I doubt they released anything that hasn't been done for a couple weeks.

It would be interesting to find out, although I doubt they'll tell us.
