This is getting beyond ridiculous. How long can it take to fix something that should be a simple matter of uploading the correct file? And could a file with 1.5 GB of zeros ever be released in the first place? But I guess nothing should surprise me with BioWare/EA anymore.
If the corruption was in their version control system and they have to rebuild it, then it will require QA and it will take a while. Of course, if the error was in their version control system then the source files might be gone too.
I'm hoping they have an offsite backup of the release version and someone is just retrieving it.

You see the problem is they have to debug 1.51 Gigs, that takes time. A lot of time. Debugging a file that is a fraction of that size can take a few hours, be grateful that it will probably be fixed within 20 hours or so by now.

Hehe, this is definately excusable.. they'll have it up.. I'm not awfully worried.
But, if Bioware cared about their fans as much as their sales figures DA:O wouldn't still be as buggy as it is and ME2 would have had the same PC oriented controls and care put into it as the first.. Being a DLC prioritized company says it all anyway though.. I'm still gonna grab LotSB, but DA2, I'm up in the air on, rushing a game out that quickly while making it more "action" oriented doesn't instill a lot of confidence in the direction Bioware is headed.. imo..
Maybe I am coming across wrong...
I am not 'worried' at all either. I think that bioware will fix the issue and I am just saying that no one
should bother with justification. He, I am glad to see other reasonable members here. Especially the part about having 'faith' in bioware to fix the issue. This is something that more users should have...Ragnarok133 wrote...
Ok I'll agree with that, I just
suppose that these crazies have started to infect me with their hate
mongering. Anyhow I know it will be up, as I said certainly within 24
hours, but I think it will be sooner than that. Perhaps that is just
hoping, but I have faith, Bioware has yet to disappoint me, and I highly
doubt they will this time around. I can understand people's being
upset, but they really are just going way to far.
Well if this were a major error or something than maybe it would be "excuseable" but its not no one uploads DLC the same day it is to be released. Everything is usually uploaded the day before or few days before to make sure everything is sound. Then on the day of release they open the DLC for download (unlocking it) no problems what so ever. And truely they wouldn't have to fix anything if simple mistakes were found before they released it.

Ha! *compressed* to 1.51GB. I'm sure there is double the amount of source code that needs to be recompiled...Ragnarok133 wrote...
Yeah there are a few of us. I've done my own programming and I know that a few hours is often not enough time, the fact that people are still complaining that it is taking so long, I dare them to have to debug a 1.51 GB file, see how long it takes them
The new file also needs to be synced across multiple download servers, as I am sure they have multiple servers in multiple locations.
Just curious, what kind of programming are you familiar with?

It doesn't make sense to me that they don't have a backup available. If I'm a business entity of their magnitude, I have two hundred backups on and off site. Hell, we have quadruplicate backups of everything in my place of employment and we don't have nearly the technological power Bioware should have.Whatever666343431431654324 wrote...

I've only worked with JAVA for any real length, and with tools it still took me hours to debug a 100 Meg file, there are so many things that could be wrong. And you're right it is probably more than 1.51, yeah I mean it is a matter of time, and people just do not realize that it can take a long time even for really experienced programmers

Again, I'm not standing on my lawn shaking my fist in the direction of Edmonton so there is no reason to tell me to "chill out" like so many are doing. I'm just pointing out the fact that I payed for a service that I expected to be immediately provided and have yet to receive it. My main complaint is that I have to go to the forums to get an update on this. Why isn't there something on the DLC page? Why do i have to wade through dozens of pages of contentious BS just to find out anything?...sigh
PS. To the fella who said PC users shouldn't get LotSB because a few people complained: you are a moron.

I'm not quite up to date on console piracy, considering I'm a pc only gamer who buys his games (I've hung up my skull and crossbones long ago) I wouldn't know quite as well, but hasn't MS done a decent job of banning modded 360s?Brp650 wrote...

Console piracy is a bit harder than PC piracy, I suppose average joe doesn't know about jtags and softmods and whatever else they do these days. It would be a measure to effect the bulk, since the remainder is more difficult to deal with.Brp650 wrote...

Guys, I bet they didn't have the PC versions done when they released that inflato fake installer.
They were running out of time to finish the DLC and put all their time in getting the 360 version done, so M§ is happy.
After that they started working on the PC version... And when the release came close and the PC DLC wasn't done, they just uploaded our 1,52 GB of 0s!
I seriously think that's true. Or why do you think they haven't explained to us what exactly caused the installer to be broken?
The conspiracies begin.
Better explanation: They churned out a dummy PC installer so that the pirate bay and the various torrent sites would be flooded with non-working junk versions curbing day one piracy, lessening average joe's faith in torrent files at being a viable means to attain working files, strengthening the notion that torrents and all piracy is inherently full of garbage non working and corrupted files - while still taking money from paying consumers.
You do know that within an hour, the Xbox version was up on torrent sites right?
Note: I don't buy into the conspiracy theory myself. Just throwing that out there.
No need to be knowledgeable about those things. Look on craigslist..they advertise mod chips..50 bucks and there ya go....modded box able to play burned to disk software
Same here...all PC gaming. I just tend to learn all the ins and outs of the Xbox mod thing through my daughters boyfriend. From my understanding MS started to ban the modded ones, but somehow the hackers were able to get by that. Gotta love 14-18 y/o hackers that out perform college educated programers
