Hey, gang.  I'm more or less crossposting this from an Xbox360 forum where I posted it previously.  Just trying to use whatever resource I can to see if I can find a way around this.

I'm playing through the Xbox version of Star Wars: Knights of the Old
Republic on my 360. Aside from the occasional sound glitch or slowdown
issue, it's been doing just fine. I have reached a point in the game
where I pass through a door into another area, and after the loading
screen appears, the progress bar fills completely, and the load screen
disappears, I am treated to nothing but a black screen. There is sound,
and the console registers button presses, but they don't seem to be
doing what they're supposed to. The A button makes the little sound it
does when you push it with no available action. The Y button apparently
makes my party draw their lightsabers, judging from the sound. The
right shoulder button (black button on XBox, if I remember right?)
cycles between party members, and you can hear them acknowledge. The
start button does nothing, so I theoretically can't access the pause
menu.

I'm on Kashyyyk, and have completed my business in the village and
Shadowlands. My party (myself, Bastila, and Jolee) are on the Great
Walkway attempting to pass through the doors to the Czerka landing pad.
It's been a while since I played this game on Xbox, so I don't remember
exactly what's supposed to be going on through the doors, but I'm
playing a light side character who has just installed Freyyr as
chieftain. Among the sounds I can hear but not see in the zone past the door is a
battle between a number of Wookiees and humans that never seems to end.
I can't return to the Ebon Hawk via instant transit from the pause
menu, and can't seem to access the pause menu to see if it's possible
from the next zone. I also can't progress a single step farther in the
game without passing this point, so I'm hoping someone else has some
idea of what could be causing this or how to fix it.

I have a game save from about 20 hours (and two planets' worth of
quests) earlier that I could revert back to, then try going to the
planet of Kashyyyk and seeing if the issue persists. I have a feeling
that this is happening because I made some decision at some point of the
game or have some person in my party or item in my inventory that's
just causing one little thing to go totally haywire, and given the 360's
reputation for backwards compatibility to begin with, I don't exactly
have high hopes, here. Just very frustrating to have invested this
amount of time in a game to reach a total impasse now.

What I've tried:

Disc is clean and as free of scratches as a 7-year-old disc can reasonably be

360 has most current updates

Letting the console cool off overnight

Entering the problematic area with each member of my party leading

Accessing the pause menu and using Return to Ebon Hawk option (inaccessible)

What doesn't work at all:

The pause menu

Instant transit

Party selection

What I haven't tried yet:

Starting over (booooo)

Reverting to earlier save state (bleeeeeh)

Entering a different area, then exiting that area and trying to enter
the problem area again (sounds a little like jiggling the handle, will
try it next time I play)

Writing Microsoft (just sitting here feeling sorry for myself seemed more productive)

-----------------------------------------

I noticed on this forum someone who had an aspect ratio problem, and also experienced the no-picture error.  Didn't seem to be any solution to his problem, and mine seems to be compounded by the fact that buttons don't function as they're supposed to when I enter this area.  I am going to try clearing the 360's system cache, as per someone's suggestion on another forum, but so far that's the only lead I've got.  Anyone else got any ideas, or am I a victim of Microsoft's apathy towards the backwards-compatibility conscious gamer?

Solved my own issue here, if anyone's interested. I had a flash of inspiration and tried returning to the village Chieftain's hut (where you are prompted to choose your party after completing the Chuundar/Freyyr quest). From there, I was able to access the party selection and rapid transit options. I selected "Return to Ebon Hawk," and the Czerka loading dock rendered without any issues besides some mild slowdown. So I assume the incompatibility issue still remains, but I didn't have to clear my system cache or anything. Cheers!
