Are you saying that those who disagree with Bioware's decision to voice Hawkes dialogue have no grounds for their disapproval ?

No. Are you even reading what I reply with? I am saying that it is a flawed argument. Flawed does not always equal invalid. They still have a beef with a voiced Hawke saying things in conversations. But to say that the Warden never had a voice is wrong.

Sure, I am reading what you are saying but your reasoning is flawed too, as you attempt to equate random 'sound effects' sometimes heard in combat ( or sometimes not heard depending on other ambient noise at the time ) which have no real role to play in the story, with Hawkes voiced lines of dialogue which are contextual. And which do have meaning.

Wait.

So your new factor in the argument is that ambient noise may drown out the voice?

Okay. I think I am done here.

As I Said I’m pretty disappointed of these DLC and pretty much agreed most opinion against it here.
But I’m pretty sure, even more now, after playing WH, that hank is my warden son (yes, yes I know he left Lothering before it was destroyed), but maybe he was send to the past by some magic or something like that, I’m sure bioware has find some way, after all the trailer is called destiny Child and it is Flemeth voice...

My humble opinion, please don’t destroy it.

Sorry Matn but It's official. Hawke ain't your baby and the DR isn't canon.

http://social.biowar...1/index/3064634

check it out for further info.

As David Gaider put it in a previous post to speed things up for ya.

"May I put this to rest?

If the player didn't do the Dark Ritual,
or didn't get Alistair or Loghain to do it, then it wasn't done. Had
Morrigan figured out some way to otherwise do it, then nobody would
have died when the Archdemon was slain.
If she had some way to go about getting the Archdemon's soul without
resorting to the Dark Ritual as she proposed it, then why did she go
through all the trouble?

We could
undoubtedly come up with some complex Plan B on Morrigan's part whereby
she gets the Archdemon's soul but has to do something far more
terrible-- but a) that removes the player's agency in the biggest
single choice of Origins and B) would probably be pretty lame."

/end Gaider quote

well i think it's pretty clear.

i think i feel a little sad to know is the end of my warden and by the way my son and my romance with the witch, even if it is only a game, and i am pretty old Posted Image i also kind of feel i litle stupid Posted Image

Good grief... This argument just seems like an excuse to nitpick about something. :?

No one is saying that the Warden never talked, EVER. They are aware that the character had a few battle cries. All they mean, or from what I gather, is that the character didn't have a true voice. For 95% (at least) of the game, he was silent. Those few battle cries he/she would shout in battle didn't add anything and they didn't make us think of that as the voice of the Warden. Not to mention those cries were very easy to overlook and to mistake for another character's voice, like Alastair's (as someone else mentioned). We still had to imagine how the Warden said things in our heads.

In that case, no, the Warden wasn't voiced. Not for the many conversations in the game or any of the interactions save for those relating to fighting or picking locks, if you played a rogue. Why pick at every little detail? Those who don't like the new character, Hawke, being voiced for everything, not just combat, have good arguments as to why they don't like it. The Warden having a few lines in combat doesn't negate those arguments or make them any less valid.

People on the DA2 forums seem to like their warden's choices being minor instead of major. I just don't understand it.

This line of argument has a colour. It's red. And it smells fishy too. Like a herring.

I see. So when I picked the Violent Human voice (voiced by the guy who did Teagan), you mean my Warden wasn't voiced?

Well, lets see. Is your argument that Hawkes dialogue being fully voiced is justifiable  and perfectly acceptable simply because the warden had a series of voiced randomly chosen one liners of no relevance to the plot, with no control from the player, that occasionally but not always popped up only in combat. Random chunks that were not even dialoge but simply minor audio niblets as part of the overall sound effect diorama for  battles ? Mood enhancers if you will.

And therefore people should willingly accept the change because of that ?

@Theagg:

Yes, I do agree with the fact that they "gave up" on their original direction bothers me.  For Mass Effect, it works; I don't know why, but having someone voice Shepard works.  But when it comes to Dragon Age?  No....I don't want that character voiced.

You are right about not wanting your Warden to make a cameo in DA 2.  I don't want that either.  The only way I want my Warden involved in DA is to be the main character.

That they would give up on their original intent and style for the game ( a style they felt reflected their core values in RPG game design, as Zeschuk implied ) is perplexing. Did they truly feel they had made a mistake in DA: O ? On what grounds, was there mass protest ? Did they bow to pressure from gamers who felt the silent warden was not a pleasure to play ? But given dedicated old school RPG'ers would most likely not feel that 'silence' was a problem of any sort, and since thats who the game was aimed at, it seems unlikely.

Was it just in some sense that the current flavour for Bioware games, the identity they now want to present, is that of their games as a cinematic experience, a la Mass Effect, so the change to DA was made for those reasons ? All their game styles now regressing to the mean so to speak. A decision by committee that every car had to be black from now on ?

But throwing away those core values so early in the series run doesn't endear me to Bioware as they push forward. DA 2 might be an entertaining experience but it won't be the same kind of experience. And thus it won't feel connected to the first.

Personally I don't want Dragon Age to become a cinematic experience. It works fine for Mass Effect but thats perhaps because ME started out that way. Maybe too, the space opera format works best like that ? Space is a big place, so the big screen treatment works to the games advantage and the player gets to be the director.

That's the difference, perhaps...

This.

No, the real argument is about voiced dialogue, or silent dialogue. Look up the definition of dialogue. Its about a conversation between two or more people. And all that entails, ie the interaction between the PC and others and how that is handled and what it means and how it feels for the player

What 'voice' for the warden was heard in combat was not 'dialogue'. It was a sound effect. And as such it doesn't equate in the way you are trying to make it do so. A random, ( beyond your control as to where and when it occurs ) bellicose cry of "More Darkspawn I see" is simply a mood enhancer, its as simple as that. Its not a conversation.

And yes, I'm done too because its 3.30am....

I enjoyed it when my female wardens stabbed her in the chest and fell into the mirror but I let my male warden go into the mirror with her as I did the DR with her.

Don't be cruel to my poor Zevran! You are right about one thing, though... He IS in a better place. He's with my Warden living happily ever after. ^_^

Actually, I didn't give him the chance.  I just finished him after I fought off his crew in the wilderness.  I guess I may have over-reacted a little.  But, I can't bring him back.  So, I guess I'll just have to move forward and hope for the best.:innocent:

But even in that forum there people who are pro-Warden, I noticed. Some of the people I'm seeing there tried posting here and gave up. And many of them can't seem to hold a simple discussion without resorting to rudeness, insults and 'shouting'. Not really worth the effort.

This thread has far more posts, and the majority here are pro-warden. What does that tell you? ^_^

Chin up and don't ever let them bother you! *gives Origins a kiss on the cheek*

Perhaps those who are anti-Warden prefer to have what was supposed to be an RPG simplified and turned into just another action game with scant RP elements. That's their right. Why bother getting into an argument with them? :)

Apparently!

Even if they do support Hawke, many people do NOT. I'm not just going by these forums, either. Nor just this site. I've been searching around on the internet, seeing how other people are reacting to WH and Hawke. It's promising. Not many seem to like how WH ended or the direction BioWare has taken with Dragon Age.
