I was actually quite surprised that a mainsteam site like Gamespot gave a Bioware product a 5/10.
This probably signals the end of the privileged treatment by the mainstream press that Bioware used to enjoy. It seems there is only so much that even mainstream sites can take.
I just hope that this also brings an end to Bioware's complacency and they realize that they have to rethink their policy about the quality of their DLC.

I figgered everybody who watched the 3DRealms fiasco would learn something. Of course, QC might have failed Bioware instead of Bioware itself.

While I wont argue about the quality of the DLC, I will add a note to this that it's Gamespot you're talking about. EA probably didn't renew their advertisement contract in time, or something like that.

Gamespot gave Shadow Broker a 8.5/10.

I think WH just pales when compared with the ME2 DLC released on the same day.

I agree with this assessment.  WH was just not very good.  LOTSB offered at least three fights that could be considered more difficult than the ME2 game average, especially on harder modes.  On top of a small bit of filler story (all that MH offered), LOTSB offered new environments (not minor recolors of existing locations).  It adds significantly to the overall feeling of depth inherant in the world of hte entire game.

LOTSB, although featuring a past romantic interest, was "big" enough to appeal to all players of the game.  You actually took down an NPC who played no small part in the overall game's social paradigm.  The implications of the outcome are more far-reaching.

I know that a lot of people like Morrigan, but they do not compose a majority of the DA player base in my estimation.  When you consider WH from the point of view of a non-morrigan-lover then the DLC becomes little more than running around the same world environments and yawning through auto-attack-level fights for an hour.

I will give you that the two party memebers were pretty awesome.  The sissy mage and naughty-ish elf are memorable for their fun dialogue, but that is all that I found compelling about the DLC.

Compare WH to Golems.  Golems offered the most challenging encounter of the game, coupled with an intriguing overarching puzzle that required us to thing our way through.  Even the unimportant fights could leave you dead at higher difficulty levels.  Also, the mace that sells for 340g on new toons added another layer of options for those who enjoy solo-ing the game on higher difficulties.  Golems was enjoyable, while also adding to the overall replay-ability of the base game itself.

WH was rated poorly because it is just not a quality product, especially when you consider who developed it.  I am a huge Bioware fan.  They and Valve are the only studios whose stuff I buy without even reading reviews.

This was simply not their best effort.

Latest post from Fernando says it'll be up in about an hour or so. My current play-through is still slogging through Awakening so I can wait.

Hi Zy-El.

So you PC players get your fix today. So for a patch that's gone through certification. How long do we console players have to wait?

Hard to say.

Depends on $ony/Micro$oft. Historically, it's been about a week or two. Patches are not exactly their highest priority.

As we all wait with baited breath! After the Gamespot review, maybe BioWare will realize the importance of the players and their communities; Look, Listen, Evaluate, Rethink, React...... They have lost sight of what we do and say to their detriment! There was a time, not so long ago, where this was not true. The days when BioWare listen and took advantage of the wealth of knowledge and game play ability of the community, were good days for ALL. What we see today is what happens when they lose sight of this. Maybe, just maybe, the Gamestop review was enough to make them stand up and LOOK!!!!

YES, it did indeed. Most of the DLC did as well but WH was by far, the WORST..

Trying to get this to work in windows 7. Would like some help.

I can download the patch. It's a folder. I can't get Windows 7 to show the file type and the updater doesn't recognize it as a .dazip file. The folder name has 1.1 in it. I think that period might confuse Windows. I tried renaming it to WH Patch.dazip but the updater still doesn't recognize it.

It's the FOLDER that the updater will recognize, right? So I need to work on renaming the folder so the updater recognizes it. Any ideas?

I think I might be bipolar, because I went from being in a really foul mood after playing WH to a really good mood after playing shadowbroker.

Same here. My character's stripped of all Awakening items and wearing Tier 1 level Origins equipment. Existing WH save wouldn't load, and WH campaigns boot me back to the MM.

Just a thought . . . after you re-installed WH, did you reconnect to the DA servers to re-authourize your WH installation?
