true...

it wasn't clear to me what role Liara is being set up to play. You are right, if she, is effectively, not on your team - then yeah, whether thats the team actual, or the extended role team (ala joker, kelly, chakwas etc)

9/10. It's seems I wasn't the only one who thought that moment where Liara asked Shepard how he/she feels served as much needed character development for Shepard. As other already said, it actually made Shepard feel human.

That's not character development: there's no change to Shepard.  That's just someone asking Shepard about X, and Shepard talking about X.

Actually that's exactly what character development is about with regards to a story. Shepard is a pre-written character, sort of like in a movie where we can roughly choose the type of adventure, but we can't really change the specifics of her personality. So far, Shepard has had plenty of opportunities to show her real inner feelings about the events, but has never done that because we as the directors of said story were never given the chance. Which makes her character someone who simply doesn't worry, or never shows those feelings to anyone. A character like that is fundamentally different from the one that finally opens up to someone she cares about. It is a change to Shepard, because it shows something that has never been shown before, a more human side to Shepard.

In most movies, books and comics - any story really -, giving moments of weakness and signs of human nature is considered to develop the character in question. Without them, they would feel too distant, perfect and flawless machines that can take anything without breaking down. A person isn't like that.

Hot damn. One of the best writes I've seen in any forum in general. Since I myself banter a lot I know it may often seem like people don't read long posts, so I wanted to reply to this just to thank you for that. :)

I really hope BW reads that both for constructive criticism as well as well-earned thanks for a job very well done.

9 out 10. Everything was great, I just wish that people who didn't romance Liara in ME 1 got a chance to do so in ME 2. Now I have to play ME 1 over again for that to happen. I really don't want to but I am, because that's how bad I want it.

Those two tiny little sentences at the end of LotSB reminded us that Shepard is in fact not just an empty husk controlled by the player, but an independent character. She just never got any attention.
This picture should say more than words though.

The truth is, I'm not the same. But for the sake of my people, my crew, they can't know that I am shaken, uncertain......scared.

They need me to be strong. They need a leader who doesn't show fear. So for them, I will keep my uncertainties to myself, and be what they need."

Excellent DLC, their best to date. The action, pacing, and writing were great. Love having my own SB base with all the extras as well as incorporating our LIs.

Some things held it back from a perfect score. I really think this DLC would benefit from a "cerberus news network" type treatment where the base periodically updated with new dossier info (doesn't have to be daily) and videos. I don't know if you can invite Liara back to the Normandy more than once, but that would be nice. It needs squad dialogue, but this is a general DLC thing...mute squad mates can be really jarring. I would pay more for a future "dialogue pack" that beefed up the dialogue throughout the game, or just new DLC that incorporated it. Liara needs more lines and stuff to do after becoming the SB...she should be moving around, have a few extra lines to say to you (like Mordin's revolving-door busy talk), that sort of thing. Make things feel more alive, not static. Ialso wish I could have defended myself against Vasir's comments...I already quit Cerberus by then. Vasir's fight was excellent, btw...felt like I was fighting a real me2 vanguard and charge made it very unique. In comparison, the SB was a letdown...very formulaic, it was very much like fighting a regular enemy but with more health and protection.

For all of that, it was a very well-made DLC and was by far the best to date. :)

(would be a 9/10 if we had some new outfits, guns or something. 10/10 if we kept Liara as squadmate)

Armesan <3!

Love that artist.

My rating?  9/10
It's the best I've seen so far, but I felt it was a bit short.  Even on Hard core, the actiony bits were a bit abrupt.  But!  The actiony bits were AMAZING.  Thank you for giving us yet another wonderfully grey Spectre to see in action.

The lair itself?  Awesome.  Oh and Feron?  Ffffffffffff if his issues with slavery have something to do with the hanar/compact I WILL LOVE YOU WRITERS FOR EVER.  DO YOU HEAR ME? <3 XD

Why is this not a 10/10 after all my gushing?

Because it would have been nice for the squaddie who did come with you to the lair have SOMETHING to say.  I mean... there's plenty of smart asses in the group... someone would have said SOMETHING.  (Comedy gold could have been had by all if Jacob had another Priiiiize line.  Jus' sayin'.)

That's all I got.

EDIT:  Derp, there was another reason why I quoted Samurai, it wasn't just cause of the purdy picture...

THANK YOU for giving us Shepard's brain dump on Liara.  THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK. YOU.
It has def made the character that is Shepard that much more real because of it.

Liara's had a lot of growing up from first to second game, and I like her leaps and bounds more than I did going into the games.  So yea... keep up the phenominal work guys.

A high 9, minus points for dialouge substance... it wasn't that great folks but there was enough good things surrounding it that it sort of went under the radar.

A minor complaint however --- a high 9.

Now someone said they compared it to the stupid Morrigan DLC and rightfully chose LOTSB. C'mon now.... LOTSB is like a high 10,000 x 10 compared to that shoddy DLC. What was it? 30 min worth? With a strange and abrupt end?

Peh.

LOTSB 9 1/2

8/10. Would have been perfect if not for the ending.

I will give it an overall of 7 just because of the ending however the rest of the DLC is one of the best they have put out for any game.  Certainly worth the 5 dollars I paid.

The quality of the DLC was top notch, no mission in the game felt this polished. However it has the same issues that all ME2 DLC have, no character other than Shepard, is acknowledged more or less. Hopefully there will be a DLC which adds more dialog for every squad mate before ME3, they will have to rehire most voice actors anyway, this could fix this issue.

Presentation 9/10: only that 1 issue.

Gameplay 10/10: best 2 boss fights in the game by far and some of the most fun encounters.

Value 6/10: its short, Mass Effect 2 is a 30 hour or so game, but this DLC is like 90 minutes for $10, ME2 is $20 now, $60 when it was new.

Overall 8.5/10: Not as long as overlord but much better, overall the best DLC so far, but i loved Kasumi and Overlord too.

Pros: Well written, nice boss fights (though I'm surprised the asari spectre was more difficult than the Shadow Broker.), nice dialog, and the return of my favorite ME1 character. The stuff you get access to after defeating the Shadow Broker is the second best part of it, the best being having the ability to continue your romance with Liara.

Cons: ...

Just finished the DLC.

8/10

POSITIVE POINTS

- This DLC has now become my favorite piece of ME2, it beats the rest of the game without a question. And so far it is the only ME2 DLC that I think was worth every cent I paid for.

- Liara was amazing, especially if you romanced her in ME1. Her character was given the attention she deserved, the friendship and romance content were well done. I love what you did with her new looks, I love her new outfit, I love the romance continuation, I love the banters, I love seeing some of her old personality back, etc.

Bioware! I am glad that you have listened to the outcry of the Liara fans. Thank you for making this DLC for us. I am very grateful for this ultra patch. A thousand times thank you!

- Someone finally asked my Shepard on how he’s holding up! Finally! THS IS GODDAM GLORIOUS!!! I demand more and better emotional development for Shepard.

- Voice acting -- Ali Hillis is now my favorite voice actor. As @JamieCOTC already said -- she overcomes bad writing. I suddenly feel like buying Final Fantasy 13.

- The music was great and good idea on using ME1 music.

- We finally get to meet another Specter! YEEEEES!

- Two undoubtedly best boss battles in the game. Both of them were far better than any other boss in the game, especially the human reaper. Fighting Vasir and her charge power was awesome. As for the SB I was surprised that there was some hand-to-hand fighting between him and Shepard. And I loved it. I demand to see more kick ass hand-to-hand fighting

- The new locations and environments were also well made. Good work on the SB’s ship.

- The rewards at the end of the DLC are the best ones so far: Liara becoming the new SB, the funny info VI drone, the dossiers, the investment opportunities, video archives, extra upgrades, retrain your squad etc. I can’t wait to see how the decisions from this DLC will impact ME3.

NEGATIVE POINTS

- Again, there are more plotholes and trails of bad writing.

- The dialog wheel was lacking a lot of options. Actually, the DLC lacked a large amount of choices for Shepard.
And not to mention the banters. Most of them match well with my canon Shepard who romanced Liara in ME1, but what about other Shepards. My other two Shepards would never have such conversations with her.

Canonized Shepard and the lack of choices sucks.

- The DLC could have been longer.

- All your squadmates are silent.

- Am I the only one who didn’t like the omni gel banter? I’ll admit that I laughed, then later I hated it because it reminded me on how the devs handled the thermal clips.

- The DLC is unavailable to some parts of Europe. What?!

- Why is Feron wearing a nice leather outfit? He is supposed to be a prisoner who was tortured for over two years.

- Where the hell is Tazzik?!

- My problems with Vasir:
1. Why couldn’t my Shepard fight her solo?
2. Why didn’t she destroy the datapad that shows the location of the SB?
3. She was badly wounded from the crash, she lost a lot of blood, she is barely able to walk and then she gets shot after taking a hostage. Few seconds later, she is fully ready for combat as if nothing happened? How come?
4. The hell? She can use charge to move in light speed and jump on buildings? Isn’t anyone else wondering as to why she didn’t use these powers in order to escape from Shepard and Liara in the first place? Plot hole?
5. The conversation Shepard has with dying Vasil is terrible and frustrating in my opinion. Why can’t Shepard make better arguments? And why wasnt there was an option where Shepard acknowledges her combat skills? Either he honors her or maybe he tells her that he is disappointed on how weak she was.
6. “Don’t you dare judge me”! ….really Vasir? What about the people you killed on Azure?

- No dossiers about Shepard and Liara? Why?

- Bioware did fix a big part that they ruined about Liara but I still don’t buy her sudden split personality change in ME2.
