Well, since a new Liara DLC is out, I have decided to survey the you people here at the BSN once more about your favorite ME squadmates. You may take the survey yourself at this link:

Yes, words are harsh, but even if I used a less harsher word, the meaning is still there.

It looks like people are not as enthusiastic this time around.

Jacob at least has a loyalty power that makes him more beefier on survival which helps his rating for me as it better suits his using a shotgun (squaddies with shotguns need to be closer to the enemy to be more effective..  Now Jack, I find is the most useless squadmate.  Sure warp ammo is a good power but Jack has no power that makes her better for survival when she uses shotguns.  This is somewhat offset with the firepower pack's Geth Shotgun.

Honestly, any squadmates work depending on the class. I consider Jacob one of the better squadmates for a Sentinel class since he has both Pull and Incendiary Ammo.

Just a note, this survey polls people on how much they like a character as BioWare has written him/her.

Tali (not because of "DEM HIPZ" or her accent -.-) because of the evolution of her backstory. First she started out as a walking codex, history lessons, etc. Then Bioware does something remarkable with her story and it becomes interesting/well written in ME2. Granted, Tali was also a useful squadmate in ME1, which was part of the reason I grew to like her character. Liz Sroka also did a good job emanating the emotions in her character, which is more than I could say for many of the VAs in the ME Universe.

Wrex was my second favorite due to his nature. He was violent, ill-tempered, and loved a good fight, but when things got messy, he stayed loyal to Shepard (depending on choices obviously). His dialogues regarding his adventures, fighting, and how he viewed the galaxy were also amusing. He was a powerhouse on my Insanity playthrough as well.

Legion's whole backstory of slowly becoming more "sentient" or "human" was also a plus for me.

As before I voted on how well written I deem the characters to be. Not quite sure what to make of the word "like" in the question. I actively disliked Ashley but gave her a high mark (9) because she felt very real and generated a big reaction from me. It was the blander characters like Kaidan and Jacob that got average marks of 5. I would almost like the characters in both, Tali and Garrus, to be seperate votes. Tali would get a 5 from ME1, but maybe a 7 or 8 from ME2. In general I thought the characters in ME2 were better written but the marks I gave don't really show that. Garrus improved massively after LotSB. The dossiers really enhanced his character for me.

Before LotSB, I would have rated Kaidan's romance the highest because my Shep romanced him and I preferred his scenes to all the other ones I saw on YouTube. But now I have to rate Liara's highest. LotSB was just so amazing. The friendship scene was exceptional in itself, but the romance scene I watched on YouTube was a new high for Mass Effect.

I'm not going to change who my Shep romances, because she's loyal to the end, but that doesn't mean I can't recognise good stuff when I see it. (Here's hoping Kaidan and Ashley eventually get such a fine treatment.)

Pretty interesting results lots of people seem to dislike Jacob including myself. I think it was the badly written 70's porno dialogue combined with the fact in battle he's not that useful compared to other squad mates and tends to get dropped very fast when you recruit others.

Most people (including me) never bothered to really even include her as a squadmate. Plus, in the last three surveys before this one, she had both the lowest mean and standard deviation.

Preliminary averages from some select characters:

Ashley: 6.10
Kaidan: 5.75
Garrus: 7.88
Tali: 6.75
Liara: 7.23
Mordin: 7.85
Wrex: 7.97
Legion: 8.01

Legion and Ashley have remained the same, for the most part, compared to the last few surveys. However, Liara and Kaidan have demonstrated a significant increase, while Tali's average has decreased significantly. Interestingly enough, everyone else's scores went down too.
