Could anyone report if this particular bug is also hapening on PC? I've wrote about the issue to a BioWare dev team member and he seemed to believe that making a fix for this particular bug might hard as this game is multiplatform.... so if the bug is also present on the PC, maybe, just maybe they might be more convinced to act upon-it! By then, "I should download informations about Samara even before I get those about Thane" he said. Oh well! So please, anyone, report upon this. If you don't, I SHALL.... do it myself :P

Yes, this bug also exists on the PC version of Mass Effect 2. I've
downloaded the DLC for the PC version and completed the shadow broker mission before
talking to Liara about Samara and the computer terminal won't give me
the information.

So... I've hit the same problem - and I'm playing on Insane difficulty [only wanted to do that once].

Will it stop me from completing the game without Samara? I figured I could use this little tragedy to see how many weird character killing decisions I could make and start a fresh career.

I hope someone from Bioware reads this and patches the bug, this bug has pretty much ruined Lair of the Shadow Broker for me. If I were to reload my last save from before I started the dlc so I could get the info out of Liara before she left her office, I'd lose 13 hours of playtime. This was my insanity playthrough to finish off the achievements, it's soul destroying to think of all that time as wasted.

Here's the BioWare answer, as of yet:
"Unfortunately Phil, as a level designer, I can't comment on the existence or status of a bug or patch or the like. That is handled by our community managers. Getting patches out across multiple platforms is a very complicated business process, and there are many reasons why a fix may or may not be made. I really do wish I could give you more. For now, you just need to make sure to get knowledge of Samara's mission from the terminal before you go and do Thane's acquisition mission."

We really ought to speak to their community manager!!!!!

I've sent the info to 2 more of the staffers. Didn't get any answer though. I think they must have something big coming out soon, that would explain why this is left this way. I don't know how it works if you want to release a patch, but I believe they have to get agreemet from someone higher than them. Might explain why they are not even looking into-it. Hence this proverb: No pay no gain!

Just wanted to say that I've encountered this bug too, PC version. Had already recruited Thane, wasn't intending to do Shadowbroker yet, but when I selected 'Goodbye' it ninja'd in in initiating dialogue and Liara left her office. Unfortunately I didn't know about this bug at the time, otherwise I wouldn't have proceeded to play the game for about four hours before realizing I'd have to do it all again to recruit Samara.

Is this ever going to get fixed?? Three months is crazy. I can't complete my game now because I can't recruit Samara. This entire play-through was done specifically so I could get "No One Left Behind" and now that's ruined. I spent $10 so Bioware could break my game!!

Hehe, I didn't know my game was broken, so I did continue until all that was left was the suicide mission. Couldn't get there because I was missing Samara. So I began a very early save and made sure I got Samara first hand before I do Shadow Broker. Now all I have to do is 45 hours of insanity to get where I previously was. Ain't that great?

I'm guessing now they've announced ME3 they aren't gonna bother fixing this bug. Very frustrating.

I hope every single PS3 player of ME2 decides to talk to Liara about the Shadow Broker first and misses out on Thane/Samara. Maybe with an entire console community being pissed off, Bioware will actually TAKE NOTICE and fix a game-ruining bug.

I'm having the exact same issue in my latest playthrough, Liara's terminal works for Thane but not Samara. This is quite frustrating. >:[

This is absolutely killing me. I hadn't played the game in some months, and I recently decided to purchase the various DLC missions. I jumped into my 2nd character from ME1 with whom i had put in about 20hrs, but Instead of going straight to the DLC, I did quite a bit of character recruiting and other missions.

Little did I know that doing the shadow broker quest would break my game. Unfortunately, I don't have any older saves from before i started the quest, and since i didn't initiate the Samara recruiting quest before starting the Shadow Broker DLC, I understand that now i can't complete the game, is that right? I read somewhere that you cant start the final suicide mission if you haven't recruited all the original characters, and if so then I don't have any reason to continue playing at all, do I? It's a shame because since it had been so long for me since I'd played the game, everything seemed fresh again and i was really getting back into it.

But now, the prospect of starting over, either with this character or an entirely new one, and redoing so much of what I've already done is very unappealing. Never has any game felt quite so much as a total waste of time as this one does now after the last three days i put into it only to be confronted with this game-killing glitch.

Add another customer with this killer glitch...Yesterday I've just finished the thane's recruitment quest and Shdow broker, and I did the recruitment quest for tali, now when I got back to Illium to check Liara's terminal to trigger samara's quest...it quits! and don't trigger anything? what the hell is going on? If I reload the save previous to shadow broker I'll lost 6 or 8 hours of play!!!

If only I knew about this damn bug...and after checking the whole thread, this was a very known issue since the release of shadow broker, why didn't bioware fixed this already!?!?!?!?

argh...now I'll have to redo not only the annoying tali's mission, and shadow broker too! If this issue escalates to the PS3 owners in the next ME2 launch....you will have another load of angry people here.

bump.

PC gamer, just found out about the glitch. i'm about 40 hours into the game, don't have any savegames before the DLC. absolutely infuriated.

who can i complain to about this bull****? i'm not crazy about bioware shamelessly continuing to sell a game-breaking product--because not only are they not fixing it, i don't even see them owning up to it. i would have at least appreciated a warning on their website before i threw more money at them. knowing about this problem beforehand solely requires user research, and that just isn't fair. if we're spending that goddamn $10, we at least have a right to that.

get your heads out of your asses, bioware. you're not actually going through a suicide mission, where there's no time to go back and fix your mistakes. you're making a /game/. the least you can do is make sure it runs smoothly.

i would also like to add:

i called EA's tech support (mass effect reverts to EA tech support, don't worry about it), and while i could not get a fix or a workaround, i did get a refund and a free coupon for extra bioware DLC for my trouble. while it does not repair the damage from losing my great savegame and that 40 hours (ouch), i have to commend EA (*not* bioware) for providing decent service.

the number, if anyone else would like to try, is 1-650-628-1001.

****ing Hell!! Just encountered this bug as well.
I was doing my Insanity run and had done almost everything except for recruiting Samara and 2 remaining loyalty missions. So I tried to get the info about Samara of the terminal, but like you all know as well, nothing happened. And now I can't complete my insanity run.
I'm so pissed off right now, because I have to replay at least 25 -30 hours on Insane. No ****ing way I will do that anytime soon. Where did you guys all complain about this and why on earth hasn't anyone of bioware picked it up yet?
Anyway I'll keep bumping 'till we get a patch for it.

I understand your pain. I had to restart from the collector ship, giving up almost 35 hours of insanity. What's more, this level has always been a pain in the arse for me. But thrust me, BioWare won't move a finger on this. I wrote to 3 BioWare staff on this and they did not answered or answered that they are sorry, and that we all should pick up Samara before Shadow Brokker DLC (as if we did not already know that when we did bring the problem and ask for a patch...)

I too have this problem. I would need to go back 12 hours to fix it. They really should patch this.
