have same problem as some do;
car chase starts smoothly with max settings, during the next cutscene towards the end of the car chase, my screen just goes black but i could still hear the sounds and the awkward grunts and "ughs!" of shepard and liara. After the game quiets down, i could still hear ambient sound of cars. Then i have to alt+tab to the desktop and bring up the task manager to end process the game.

p.s. tried following the solution regarding the motion blur (even turned off all effects like shadows and lights) to no avail. also tried reinstalling the game and the dlc... still nothing.

my gpu is 9800GT green ed, driver version is updated to 258.96.

hope someone out there figure a way around this.  my annoyance has already died down to petty lifeless attempts. :(

If you still haven't, try to defrag your HDD. I had the "a specter" crash and I think that solved my problem. Give it a shot.

(I also had a crash in the exact location as you but when I loaded the game again it didn't happened)

I tolerated the glitch on my first run through. (Vista Home Deluxe, Nividia 95XX something)

Beat the DLC. Then turned off the computer. Turned it on today, And played the game for a second run through with a different character. The glitch disappeared, and the car chase worked perfectly.

@ggrievous123 - tried defragging, even repairing bad clusters thru chkdsk but still the same issue. the game doesn't really crash or anything, just black screen and it won't transition to the next part. aside from that, it still kinda' gives a hint that it's still working. thanks for the response, though.

still sad. :(

I also had the same problem. Win7 64bit, ati 5850, upgraded to 10.7 (10.8 had some install issues).
First I disabled motion blur but that didn't help. Tried disabeling all other gfx options and it still didn't help.
But when I turned sound off in MassEffect2Config I finally got past black screen. Watched the animation, saved the game and continued playing without a hitch.

@pat1117 - I couldn't get past either, I've tried cutting out the sound, motion blur, made another playthrough, etc, etc.

Please Bioware, tell us how to fix it! I'm dying to finish the DLC. :(

just to update , in my last desperate attempt to play shadow broker dlc, i again re-installed the dlc. low and behold, i was able to watch through the car chase cut scene (with a moderate lag) and was able to transition to the next level.

@patocerda - try reinstalling the lotsb dlc again (this is my third re-install and it finally worked!) hope it works for you too. im going back to the game. cheers!

I'm commander shepard and this is the best dlc ever!! :o

It did not helped me >.<

Edit: Also tried without sound.. same result.. If bioware could develop a tool that will read my curent savegame, and develop almost the same, but AFTER the car chase, it would be cool >.<

Let us reiterate the solution discussed for the opening post in this thread:

Problem: The visuals of game turn into a mess at the beginning of car chase. This glitch seems to be nearly exclusively restricted to the owners of GeForce 7x series graphics cards.
Solution: Turning off the motion blur from the game launcher menu seems to be the solution for this particular problem.

If you have a different glitch, e.g. problems start at different sequence of the DLC, the solution described may not be of help for you. It's completely different glitch, unrelated to the one described in opening post. It would require methodical experimenting with different graphical settings to find out if they have any effect at all.

I am really disappointed at the extent of problems the DLC is causing. Did anyone even test the DLC before the launch? What did the Q&A team do?

Hi, having the same problem, except a pre-cursor to this is that when the cutscene begins, there's a momentary 'flash' or 'flicker' of black, then it resumes, however it still does the same thing: black screen.

Single Core Pentium IV (3.20 GHz....yes... I know, single core but hey! It works doesn't it?)
nVidia Geforce 8600 GTS (and I thought the 8600 series was good!)

Obviously this is a problem that is restricted to the graphics cards, as I have tried reinstalling, blah, blah, blah, and it still doesn't work!

BioWare better as hell get onto this. It causing us grief!

EDIT: Yep, I have done what Koshik said was his solution, and still it doesn't work also. Plus, I want to clarify the fact that this happens DURING the final car chase cutscene where the last view of the screen is where you Sheperd's up-close face turn into a gasp (I don't know if), and then it short to black. Also, if anyone needs more of my PC specs I'll give them gladly, as I would like this problem resolved ASAP. I have tried EVERYTHING, as so have alot of people, so if this can get resolved then that would be great!

that same thing happened to me - black screen during the car chase cut scene. tried to reinstall the game, the dlc, turned off motion blur and other graphics settings to low, turned off audio, tried to defrag hard drive, chkdsk and what not. i did all this yesterday the whole day. and boom, nothing fixes it.

but just this morning, i tried to manually patch the game to 1.02, then reinstalled the LotSB dlc. finally worked. (note: this was the third or maybe fourth time i reinstalled the dlc) to think of a reason why this specific instance of reinstalling the dlc fixed the black screen cut scene is beyond me.

try manual patch, then reinstall the dlc until it works. (it's terribly irritating, i know. but i managed to get through it, so could you)

my specs:

amd sempron140 2.7ghz

palit 9800GT 512mb 256bit

1 gig RAM

Thanks mate, I'll give it a go. Could you please give me a link to the dl of the patch?

Also, this may seem silly, but I think we should record every solution we can come up with for this problem.

sure, here's the link - http://social.biowar...age/me2-patches

turning off the motion blur works for 7xxx series cards (nvidia), for my case, it doesn't work with 9800.  i think some folks here with 8xxx series also CAN'T get past the black screen cut scene with just turning off the motion blur.

Actually this is a working solution! It worked without reinstalling the DLC, just after installing 1.02 patch.. looks like it must be installed AFTER dlc, this makes sense since when i install dlc patch is installed on the beggining... TY mate :D

@ pat1117: it still doesn't work, i reinstalled the DLC, then applied the 1.02 patch (though i don't understand to what do you refer when you say to "manually apply it"), but still no luck, it keeps showing the black screen (which happens just after shepard looks forward to the car which is going to crash with them, then i hear the usual "URGH" and then the music stops and that's it).

Bioware help please!!!!!!!!!!
