Over the last two years, the largest complaint with this game is the fact that you cannot skip cut-scenes. Yes, they are a vital part of the plot and game. However, once one is viewed, that’s it. The player has moved on. Invariably, we all die in boss battles. Invariably, we all have to restart those battles, especially when playing on higher difficulty settings. The higher the challenge, the more we die and have to restart.

Why then would you, first, make the players have to sit through the same cut-scene over and over and over while they keep trying to beat that one annoying boss that just won’t bloody die, and second, not update the game over the last two+ years with the ability to either skip the cut-scene completely or have it auto-save right after the scene as the player enters battle[/i].

Seriously, the largest playability issue with a game distributed over Steam, and no one has bothered to put a fix in this. Yes, you guys learned from your epic failure in this department with the release of Mass Effect 2. The actual playability, refined controls, and overall quality of the game were excellent, even when dying over and over when playing hardcore difficulty.

But seriously… why not update ME1 to fix the cut-scene issue? At least throw in a simple autosave trigger after the cut-scene at entry into the boss battles. That in the very least would have virtually eliminated complaints in this department. There is already an auto-save toggle option in the settings, so it’s not like it would be saving against the user’s wishes.

Come on… the game still has a huge amount of replay value for those who already have it, and is still being sold on Steam for $20. It’s not like you guys aren’t making money from it. Especially given that ME1 characters are importable into ME2, people want to play a new character from ME1 all the way through ME2, and will still want to even in ME3 when that comes out.

A simple fix. That’s all I’m asking, guys.

Thanks for your time,

-Syn

Unfortunately, publishers usually dictate how many patches a game will get. Microsoft, EA? They don't care about your experience with this game anymore. It won't be patched. Quite honestly, I bet BioWare would love to patch it. As someone who programs myself, I understand someone's desire to remove all bugs from their software for the best possible experience. It just won't happen though.

The best advice I can give you is to press Spacebar (not sure what the equivalent on Xbox would be) to skip conversation, but do so conservatively because mashing it can make it accidentally choose the conversation option that the arrow happens to be on.

Right, I got the conversation forwarding, but any non-dialog areas cannot be forwarded. So that delightfully-awkward elevator right with Wrex over and over get's quite... repetitive when I get to the top, go through a cut-scene that won't forward through, and manage to off a couple Geth before I get shanked in the ass for the umpteenth time. It honestly negates any desire to want to attempt the game on anything higher than casual.

And speaking on the limited patches... aparently no one told Valve about that. They seem to fix issues and patch their games at least once a month.

Valve is different because of Steam itself. Also note that the 360 games don't get nearly all of the patches that the PC versions get, because Microsoft doesn't want that many patches going through.

Sad. This issue is the same level as Windows BSODing. Sure, you can restart, but it takes a bit to get back to where you were.

You are really out of luck on that hope.

It's always the bottom line, and by letting Microsoft publish the 360 version, Bioware lost any control.  Microsoft doesn't keep on patching old games because it's a losing proposition.  The few sales aren't sufficient to cover the costs.  Take a look at what will happen with regard to the PS3 and Mass Effect now.  There will be a version of ME2 without any ME1, so the story will be rewritten.

The same situation applies for the PC game.  I never played it longer than for a test, on a PC that was not on my LAN, and was wiped clean after the tests.  I do not trust Sony, and their DRM is as bad as Star Force, IMO.  I used to hope that some day EA would authorize a patch to remove the root kit involved, but it never happened.

for the 360 version just press the x button to forward through conversational cutscenes. works for me in ME1. ME2 not quite so much like the opening movie of the game if you are just starting over. I'd like to cut through that up to the convo with liara/ashley/alenko depending on who you romanced/survived ME1.
