I've been meaning to go through ME1 to produce a male Shepard I'm happy importing through ME3 but the daunting thing I've realized is that I haven't played ME1 in ages and I'd like to cut as many corners as possible without losing bigger things that ME1 imports over to ME2 (i.e. probably some of the more major sidequests that have ramifications in ME2), and probably hitting up some of the things that make ME1 a lot easier overall (I remember the quest where you get to spec your character, but that's about it...). I wish I could just use the save file database, but I can't, because, alas, I am a 360 player.
Does anyone have some sort of optimized speed run progression for ME1? It'd be greatly appreciated.
Speed Running Through ME1?

The best advice I can give is to play it on the easiest setting, Casual, I believe. It makes the combat go so much faster, so you can get thru the game easier. I'm doing the same with a MaleShep.
Basically, do all of the Citadel quests on your first visit (yeah, most are referenced in ME2 with just an email, but I'm hoping that scanning the keepers, for example, has an impact on ME3) do the Cerberus mission quest lines (Missing Marines, Cerberus, Hades Dogs), and I'd go further and do the Listening Post Alpha and Theta, and Depot Sigma 23 missions as well, as they relate to Cerberus also.
Hostile Takeover, Nassana Dantius' mission, the geth invasion in the Armstrong Cluster (Tali's geth data), Garrus' Dr. Saleon mission, and Wrex's family armor mission (for character reasons, not ME2 consequence reasons) Chairman Burns, UNC: Dead Scientists (Cpl Toombs) are essentials too. The paragon hostage scientists mission, I'd do also, even if it appears that the outcome is bugged in ME2, like Conrad Verner.
Finally, Bring Down the Sky. Other than that, try to rush thru the main missions as much as you can, but don't skip side quests like the Feros paragon quests (if you're playing paragon), etc.
I think it's possible to do in just over 10-12 hours. I managed it once, but forgot a few things, so I'm going thru again to get things right for my "ultimate" canon playthru.

I did a speedrun not too long ago. Played it on easy, only did the main missions and the sidequests in those missions.
Took me 4 hours and 43 minutes lol...

I speed ran ME1 in insanity as a soldier in 5 hours to get the achievement. Did the main and a couple short side missions. It was fun. I didn't use immunity and didn't die. It's not hard.

If you already have a ME1 save, have you considered re-importing it into mass effect one again? I'm also replaying a canon shepard and I've found that mass effect gameplay gets much, much better after you hit level 50, and have access to powers more frequently.
Now that I'm lvl 50, ive found I dont want to do a speed run, as the combat is really fun.
basically I've got a list of all the assignments that just require talking, or flying to a single planet and killing everything in that one underground bunker (ugh copy and past level design), etc, and my plan is to cross them off one by one. again. but max singularity has made combat much better than the first time around.
If you do want a quick playthrough, all you have to do really is Noveria, Feros, Therum, Virmire and Ilos I guess. and talk to conrad verner, cause that can only lead to hilarity. But if its a story based playthrough, I'm not sure I'd want to skip all the dialogue or side missions.
If you feel like acheivement chasing (who knows, you might) then Bring Down the Sky makes it really easy to get the squadmate ally acheivements for some reason. not sure why, but it seems to count for a lot.

My speed runs always took me 6 hours, give or take about 10 minutes. (Yes I did more than I care to admit.) I basically did the core missions plus anything that gave major paragon/renegade points, which includes some Cerberus missions.

You guys are speed deamons. I never played ME1 before, and am playing to get a character to import into ME2 ( have played that 15 times ). I am doing everything I can ( playing on casual ) and am at level 41 going into Vermire. 30 hours already ( hate the mako ). Would like to get to 50 in one playthrough because there are some bonuses for that import. Cerberus is evil, would not realize that without playing ME1. I'll take a look at your links. Thanks.

May try a speed run myself because I'm interested in "rebuilding" my Shep from scratch. I've done a Soldier, Adept, and Vanguard in the past. May give the Infiltrator a go. I'm a little bummed though because I know a lot of people recommend taking Hacking as the bonus talent power for an Infiltrator but this would be my first time taking on a tech class in that game.

I have to go from scratch, unfortunately, because I only have a worthwhile female Shepard. I want a good dude Shepard to put through to ME3, and I never actually completed ME1 with a male Shepard...oops.
I'm gonna try these tips out soon (may finish my canon DA:O+A playthrough first). I ideally don't want to spend more than 10 hours on this speed run...especially since finishing ME1 is going from the proverbial frying pan into the proverbial fire that is ME2, which takes much, much longer.
