Do you prefer playing a human character?

In my case, this has nothing to do with identification (i.e. in the sense that a player might feel a "connection" with the character) or racism (of the Thedas variety). Instead, I have a problem with how the characters look.
Elves are too diminutive. They look like children or wimps. They look silly in plate armor. When you see them in a line with humans you notice how small they really are! They're more like hobbits than classical elves. They just don't inspire me.
And dwarves, although they do look like they are supposed to, I get tired of them being so short. Really. I get a pain in the neck from too much looking up during conversations. I know, it isn't ME looking up, but when I see the dwarf straining his neck, I start feeling an ache. That is, when you can see the dwarf at all. Many times you only can see the top of his head during conversations.
And their waist is so thick. (Ahem... of course, it's pure muscle). I normally have the main character in point, and since armor skins (even plate) are flexible like rubber, you can see that mass of... muscle swaying from to side to side. A moment comes when I get sick of it.
I'm sure there are a lot of dwarf-lovers and elf-lovers out there, but I suspect most players tend to choose human characters.

As for humans, their facial structures don't need much adjustment, they have a well rounded background but I find them more suitable for thieving and warrior classes. the Dwarves are short yes but I don't drop a dwarf because of being short, I just don't play them all that often because well I get bored with the Dwarven Storyline.

Nothing game breaking though :3
I enjoy playing humans because most typically, my human character is *me*, while elves and dwarves are characters, and I am the writer.

Also I like the human origin better than the others, followed closely by dwarf noble.

I don't like Dwarfs so haven't played one.

I prefer to play as human. Granted playing as a dwarf/elf gives you a different perspective in their respective quest lines, I feel like a Cousland is more connected to the *main* storyline. As any other race, you have no connection to one of the major antagonists (you don't even know his name the first time he is introduced via cutscene...he's just kind of there and unless I'm mistaken this cutscene doesn't mention his name either...and if there's a point before this cutscene where he's introduced other than in some passing dialogue, it's slipping my mind), and the climax with that antagonist doesn't feel that epic. IMO of course.
Also I like the human origin better than the others, followed closely by dwarf noble.
You're supposed to feel more connection to the main storyline as a human because it takes place in human lands and you're the offspring of a well respected teryn. I think the point of playing other races/origins is to feel out of place, but I'll agree with you that it does feel weird to play as something other than a human sometimes.

I prefer elves in most games, including Dragon Age, but I'll also play the occasional dwarf or other species depending on the game. I just tend to find humans a bit boring, I suppose.

Exactly, but even as a human mage you don't know who the character I mentioned is. The side stories with minor characters along the way as anything other than a Cousland are interesting, but I feel like you miss out on the big picture if you play another Origin. Like that's the canon story for the Hero of Ferelden or something (maybe it is?).

Having said that I usually go against gender. I'm female but prefer to play males, on the whole. I am not keen on the human female bodyshapes and voices (too busty/screechy) .
I have to say I have never liked elves. I disliked them after reading Tolkein as a kid and too Mary Sue. Games like DA and The Witcher have painted them in a slightly different light which I find refreshing and I quite enjoyed my City Elf playthrough, but still not awfully keen on the Dalish.
There are exceptions, of course - I like Zevran a lot (probably because he sees himself as Antivan rather than elven), and I liked Kivan in BG, but for the mostpart I prefer humans.

Add to that that I first rolled an elf mage, disappointed that in this world they are runts, and mine with a secluded and isolated upbringing - then meeting and deciding to go with the obviously main love interest, Morrigan, I saw that I would need to create a character with some backbone who at least had a believable hope of trying to exert some control over her. So male noble bred on beef and ale it was.

I refuse to play as a noble unless there's a patch which allows me to start out with **** loads of cash and bling bling. I also don't like playing an elven mages because if I were one I would become Keeper, not lock myself up in a human tower. At last, I don't like playing warriors because two handed weapons are slooooow!
However, I do very much enjoy playing with human mages and elven rogues. And I am not picky.
