I don't have anything against humans, but I tend to find them boring and cliched. I prefer to play dwarves because I like the culture and strong personalities they tend to exude. Traditionally they pride themselves on their craftsmanship, openly enjoy their vices (women and beer, raaaah!), and mean serious business in battle. They're more likely to tell you what's on their mind rather than dance around the issue politely. There's a different interpretation of the dwarven culture present in DAO, but it's a refreshing change of pace.

No objection to playing a human in DA2 though. I'll miss the dwarves, but it sounds like it'll be a fun game.

I refuse to play as a noble unless there's a patch which allows me to start out with **** loads of cash and bling bling. I also don't like playing an elven mages because if I were one I would become Keeper, not lock myself up in a human tower. At last, I don't like playing warriors because two handed weapons are slooooow!

However, I do very much enjoy playing with human mages and elven rogues. And I am not picky.

There were and are tons of impoverished nobles. Just because your family won a title through arms or sleeping with the king, doesn't mean that they are going to be good at keeping or making money. Also parents of nobles are traditionally frugal - either through necessity, nature, a practical approach to bringing up children, or with all of the money tied up in the estate.

Ferelden mages, city elf or human, don't really have a lot of choice about being locked up - and with that attitude if I were keeper I'd tranquilise you!

Ha! you mean you prefer the dwarven clichés over the human ones.

I am more of a classist than a racist. At this point, I prefer city elves, dwarf commoners and Dalish, oppressed groups everyone. Mages are great to play, but the Origin is lackluster. The Dwarf noble origin is the best written in the game, but I'm almost never comfortable playing nobility.

Also elves are better eye candy than any other race. Unlike most games, the dwarves in DA:O are attractive but they are too chibi-like for me to play as one.

I find it really difficult to play as a dwarf, they are so damn short! (No offense to anyone Image IPB) In fact I think ive only completed one of each dwarf origin storylines, whereas ive completed well over 25 game playthroughs of the other races. Humans, and elves to a certain point, just seem so much easier to relate to and also easier to enjoy playing as.

Try as I might I just cant play elves or dwarves. I started up a dwarven character just last night and I couldn't even get past Ostagar. Dwarves are just too short for me to suspend my belief...Im 6ft4 so its hard to play anything but a human.

And dont get me started on elves...skinny and NO FACIAL HAIR...no thanks.

I know *sadface it's just, i'm a bit of a noob, so when I first played DA I just chose the human noble option without really looking at the others, so I somehow convinced my self it was possible to play as Dalish mage... The disappointment!

Also, that made me wonder what keepers do with dangerous mages, you don't see many Dalish tranquils, do you :/

Honestly? I vastly prefer playing as both the elves and dwarves, if only because I found their respective origins to be much more in line with my own preferences. Both the City Elf and Dwarf Commoner stories have a special place in my heart. Had the humans been given better Origins I probably would have played them more often.

I find humans in fantasy games very boring and prefer to avoid them (stupid Hawke), but I love elves and dwarves. Dwarves are awesome and no party feels right with out one but I'm not short and I hate facial hair so I have trouble actually playing them and usually end up rolling an elf PC.

I actually started my first playthrough as a female CousCous and I found it nice but nothing really too exciting. There was something missing, somehow. After that I started my second one as a F!Dalish and was immediately sold...it felt so different to the first one and just so right. Since then I stuck to elves (I have just 2 humans and dwarves). I just find them and their lore (Dalish <3) a lot more interesting...Then again being the underdog and still showing them all the finger is just too much fun for me to let it pass :D

First character is an Elf Mage the Elves seem quite different to the usual Elves in Fantasy games i kinda like that my character is a total midget compared to the humans it makes her have a cute side.My second character is a Male Human Noble for creating characters humans seem to look the best. Have not tried Dwarfs and really have no desire i think they look silly and all seem to have the same face.

Since this is a fantasy game I find humans to be really cliched and unappealing. I usually play as elves, I like their survivor mentality, perseverance, as well as their diverse personalities. No two elves are the same. Nothing against dwarves I love their lore but they just seem so self absorbed and stuck in their past that they are unable to move forward, their arms are also to long. But elves are like the underdogs of the DAO world I can't pass up kicking major butt as a elf.

<---------- This character was meant to be human but I just couldn't do it.

I prefer to play human male characters. Mainly because their (straight) romance options are both human and I like my character to be taller than whoever he hooks up with. :P

When I played a male elf, he hooked up with Zevran.

I don't really care what race my female characters are, though.

Elves and humans. I was never into playing dwarves. That said, it sucks so badly that there'll not be the option in DA2.

Yes the main problem with elves that males can't have facial hair, thus I can't even imagine playing as one, and I agre dwarves have no soul or personality at all, they're more concerned about things like political B.S. instead of helping the wardens when the world is about to end, so I will continue to play as a human.

Usually I take a half-elf to play and make him/her a rogue or ranger or whtever with two blades. But since there are no half-elves in DA:O, and human got a bonuce to dexterity - well the choice was obvious ))) And I just fell in love with my femCousland. I played with her about six times making the same choices just beacause I loved it. And well, I didn't pay much attention to other Origins really. Made them just to get achivements..

I normally play human or dwarf, I understand and sympathise with the elves' plight but oh my god at them constantly whining about it. Every other dialogue wheel has the 'is it because i iz an elf?' response.

I do love the human noble storyline but I prefer playing as a mage.

Humans= booooring. I like to play elves. I do prefer the physical outlines of the HF, however- I like the tall, leggy frame, especially with tmp7704's proportions fix that gives her more feminine hands and shoulders and a bit more booty. But still, I'd rather be playing an elf.

Personally, I find the elves a bit irritating. While I sympathize with them, I get tired of hearing all about it. Dwarven politics makes me crazy, so I avoid that. I like the family aspect of the Cousland background, and since I play 'good' characters, the type of family it is works very well for roleplay. I don't find it at all boring, but rather very immersive in how it ties to the main plot. And I'm short in real life, so I enjoy the opportunity to be tall. ;)

If you play the PC version, you can download a Dalish mage origin mod.  It's not a 100% seamless experience with the Circle of Magi quest, but it's still pretty fun.
