I have to agree myself: I really dislike the Rev. However, this is very much a playstyle issue. I prefer to hang back and take enemies out from long range, which is exactly the worst place to be when trying to use the Rev. I can't tell you how many times I've aimed at an enemy, only for one bullet out of 10 to actually hit them.

Put simply, I'm not aggressive enough for the Rev to be a good weapon when I'm using it.

Dump many points into adrenaline rush and go for the one that lasts longer. I've found its much easier to kill things with the revenant at range. make sure you don't try to engage adrenaline rush while firing though, it will make bad things happen, but done right it can be very effective.

I have to disagree... In fact I /love/ the fact that it has kickback that requires you to get used to. I don't know why.

It's my favorite gun in the game - I love the mattock, don't get me wrong, my adept won't let it go for anything. And the new pistol just lets you "dial in" headshots like nobodies business...but the Revvy....god I love that gun.

The revenant inspires emotion... adoration, love even. not logic. The mattock exists for killing with cold precision. the revenant is for laughing in the face of a rapidly disintegrating foe.

I took a while to adapt to the Rev after using the Vindicator for a while, but I ended up loving it myself. It fits my aggressive playstyle, but for those who like the long-range, cover-hugging, precision combat, I can see why the Widow works better for them. I do find an AR Widow headshot very satisfying, but for me it can't compare to getting up-close and personal and throwing a storm of lead into my enemy's face.

Not always the wisest idea on Insanity, but I love doing it none-the-less.

Same here. It's large clip and full-auto firing grant a heck of a lot of options for a character that likes to play agressive. And hell, this is coming from someone who likes to use it on an Adept... :P

For me it's pretty much decided on the basis that it effectively does the job of a shotgun and an AR at the same time. It's also a boss killer, tearing Praetorians and Gunships into kibbles. And it looks and sounds cool, just wish Shep would growl 'Let's ROCK!' every time he pulls the trigger

Turns out to be a great weapon for Grunt.

What?

Hehe, well, if you're modding, then give Grunt and Jacob both Revi's and both Inferno ammo (not squad). You'll have nothing to do. They are both meat grinders.

You know with all the people talking one way or the other about the Revenant, I realized something.  In all my time here on the forums, I've never seen a video with the Rev in it.  I've seen all the different weapons possible (unmodded) on all the other classes, but no Rev Soldier.  I've seen Widow and Claymore Soldier videos, but no Rev.  I'm new to the Rev myself, only having gotten it yesterday since I finally got to creating a Soldier, so my verdict is still pending.  Yet what surprises me is that with all the video makers here showing love for he Rev, I've only just now been able to find one video linked to from this forum of a community member with the Rev in action here from Feb. With so many making videos featuring weapons they love, and with this lengthy debate here that isn't nearly the first thread to have it, I'm surprised more pro-Rev players haven't yet made videos showcasing this awesome Rambo style gameplay that is so touted.

[edit] well found another one, this one by Gatsby.

^ Thats pretty much how you play a Rev Soldier. You get bonus points for wearing camo fatigues in real life and shouting Predator quotes at your computer screen. Poetry like:

'Get to da choppa!' and
'Do eet! Do eet nao!' and
'De CIA got you pushing too many pencils? Huh? Had enuff?'

Hit Adrenaline Rush and do it again. It never gets boring and I have no idea why.

The Revenant doesn't win because it's the best weapon. It just has cool design. Nice sound effects, feels like you're firing a machine gun. The recoil actually makes this weapon fun.

The color is a little weird though :)

I actually really dislike how the Rev looks. its too smooth. I want it to be brutal and harsh. it needs edges. and a bayonet. and its own private army.

and some cake.

and Belgium.

Yeah it doesn't look that great. But it's fun to use, that's what I meant.

I don't understand what it has to do with Belgium though :)

Glad to see my prodding work; surprised how quickly too!

Great videos guys, however I have a bit of a theory of how that could have been even more efficient.

Yesterday was my second time getting a chance to pay around with the Revenant so I ran a little experiment.  First I'll say my Soldier had Hardened AR, Inferno AmmoSquad Cryo Ammo, Commando, and 1pt Slam.  The two missions for this experiment so far were Jack's loyalty and Grunt's loyalty, and it goes without saying this was on insanity.

Some background first; the other day I noticed Inferno Ammo not really panicking enemies all that long.  I also noticed with the Rev's high RoF, once the targets got down to health the Inferno DoT never really gets a chance to tick.  I mean really, with a machine gun like the Rev, the targets always die before you would stop firing, but if you stop firing too soon, they won't stay panicked for more than a second before shooting at you again.  My hypothesis was that unless shooting at very highly armored targets (bosses, Scions, Harby, Gunships), it may be more efficient to use Cryo Ammo on the Rev!

To test, I set out to do both the above mentioned loyalty missions twice; once with Inferno on both the Rev and the Viper, the other with Squad Cryo on the Rev and Inferno on the Viper.  Intentionally I thought I had stacked this experiment in Inferno Ammo's favor, since both missions featured armored organic enemies (Varren, Klixen, Vorcha, Krogan).  Surprisingly what I discovered is that for both missions, I cleared the areas in about the same amount of time, if not a little faster(!), with Cryo Ammo on the Rev rather than Inferno!  In addition to similar run times, it is a fact that I spent far less time with my screen pulsating red during the Cryo runs than the Inferno runs!

What ended up happening is this:  with Inferno ammo on the Rev, all four of those enemy types had their armor stripped off a little faster, however it took longer to get through their health (due to Inferno damage changing to DoT once hitting health instead of armor).  The DoT of Inferno never gets utilized to full effect anyway; when using the Rev one never stops shooting the meat grinder till nothing but shredder jiblets remain.  With Squad Cryo Ammo on the Rev, all four of those enemy types still had their armor stripped quickly (after all, the Rev does have x1.4 armor, x1.2 shields, x1.2 barriers, x1.0 health) but a hair slower in comparison nonetheless.  However, enemies died faster once they got to health, usually shattering once their health bar dropped only half way.  In addition to dying much faster, enemies stay frozen longer than they do panicking from fire, making it easier to switch targets when fighting multiple enemies once you see the first start to freeze.

If only I was playing on the PC instead of the 360.  I could of made a video showcasing my findings much clearer and much easier than this mass of text... @sinosleep and kronner; I encourage both you to try the same runs again but with Cryo Ammo on the Rev to see if we can duplicate/verify my results.
