The beta patch for Witch Hunt does have an auto save feature once you've made the important choice at the end.

It doesn't add anything, just corrects the issues, IE, decisions not being recognized and the game not autosaving at the end of the DLC.

Was there a title for the Patch... or will this just be the random patch for those who got witch hunt within a couple days of released that wont be needed later on because it will be fixed with the new version of witch hunt patch?

Well, you don't NEED an autosave after Awakening. All important decisions have been made by that final auto-save as you approach  the final boss.  No matter what you say to the final boss, nothing will change in your epilogue, so there is no reason to have a post ending save, since there is no DLC that might have come out after you finished the game like Origins itself had.

I think he/she is refering to Witch Hunt.

Did your BETA PATCH have an autosave at the end?

Ah, no I thought that he/she meant Awakening, I've not played Witch Hunt yet (waiting for patch on 360), so I am not sure if it "saves" just before a final boss fight or not.  I know  Golems of Amgarrak did the same thing, no "choices" after the final boss fight necessitating a "final save"

The reason why I ask is because Bioware has confirmed that your decisions at the end of Witch Hunt does effect the world of Dragon Age, and need to have a autosave afterwards in order to import those decisions into DA2... where as Golems and Awakening didn't need a END save, but one that saves right before the final boss.

yeah but then how will the game recognize  that you beat GoA or Awakenings?

Also for the person that was asking about console patches, they have top be approved by MS/Sony. Its a process that takes some time. Hopefully they can start the process next week.

I played Witch Hunt with an old character save game and Morrigan forgot the ritual but otherwise it went okay.

I've gone back to Origins and my fem-elf-mage and the Landsmeet is bugged and Alistair disappears even when I don't have any dlc equipment equipped. Grr.

It wasn't actually an executable patch, as it is still in beta. It was set of files that had to be installed into override directory, much like you would a mod. It wasn't named anything special, just "Witch Hunt Fix" or something. The actual patch will come with an installer.

I'm not sure what they plan to do or how they plan to release it.

Cool picture. Uh, so If you want the game to recognize awakening and GoA... I'd say you would have to play through those campaigns... I was refering to origins save... which you can import to awakening, then golems then witch hunt if you want.

Thanks, it took a while to load.
I was just saying that because the game has a tendency to not autosave after the epilogue, like for me I had to delete my existing autosave, disable the autosave option beat the dragon and then before leaving the throne room, enabling it again to make sure I got it. I did this in order to get it to Awekening.

Its just annoying that the game doesnt do it for you properly.

Although to be honest with you GoA did not really seem like it mattered, especially the ending. Hopefully they do something like they did in ME2 where you get to see the options you picked, that way you can see if the game recognized the saves correctly. Especially with the Vigil's Keep journal problem.

(Some Awakening spoilers below for those who want to skip it)

Well I just finished my second character with the patch (had 2 to test with) and yeah it worked smooth with both of them.

One of my characters was imported from the middle of Awakening (I hadn't done anything of note in that game with that character) and the main thing I saw different was that there was neither a Skull mark showing Amaranthine destroyed, nor a marker to show Vigil's Keep which I had in 2 of my other saves. So for Witch Hunt to recognize anything you did in Awakening, just have to make sure you use a save after certain events. As it is, the default autosave right before the Mother should contain everything needed for imports since all the main decisions will be there (did you upgrade the keep, did you save the keep or city, what happened with the Architect, etc.) I believe the game assumes you killed the Mother (which isn't that much of a stretch to assume).

Now time to zip these things up and get them sent off. Well, 1 more thing to try first.

Oh, huh. Yeah, why don't you just keep the autosave on all the time? The game is suppose to save a post-campaign epilogue save right after your coronation.

Yes, you would be assumed to kill the mother. just like GoA assumes you killed the harvester.

So did any of you PCers who got the patch and the auto-save at the end play with a character who chose to let her leave?

I was hoping someone could resume this new save and say what the gift was that Morrigan left for you...

Loading the autosave takes you straight to the credits and then back to the main menu, unfortunately.

I suppose they never intended to tell us what it was.

If that's the case, then I don't believe the DLC was supposed to have that last save file to begin with...it seems like it was SUPPOSED to not matter, but I don't know.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Can the save be used to transfer into Awakening or Origins?

I'm not going to give any spoilers here, but yes, there is a reason to have that last save and no you can't import it back into Origins or Awakening.

This may be of use.

My save game that I used from origins was a post archdemon, return to ostragar campsite save.  So I have the completed quests showing that I had the ritual with morrigan, the archdemon is defeated, but she's still in my party at this save.  The subtext on the save, where you would choose which save to load, says that I am on my way to redcliff.

Perhaps something in those items has overwritten some of the settings

No, I don't know anything specific about upcoming plot lines. Wasn't even trying to imply that. There are choices you can make in the DLC. Since this DLC is the end of the Warden story and people will want the choices they made in Witch Hunt to be imported over into DA2 as well, that's why there's that final save at the end to make sure everything is covered. The "no spoiler" thing was to avoid mentioning what said choices were in Witch Hunt. Nothing more.

betatester reporting here:

the patch works fine, the ending isn't bugged and a savegame is created just before the credits.

We're still reporting and making new playthroughs to search for additional issues, but for me everything works right now.

I'll report again in a few hours.

Beta tester here as well, everything works fine the playthrough I had was with my Human female that is queen and friends with morrigan. Morrigan recognised the decisions i had made, the auto save at the end of the game is also working. All in all a very good patch.

That's awesome that it seems most of the problems have been fixed in the beta. I can't wait to actually play through the ending sequence properly.

How did the fix work? Did they make your DAO save work or did it fix any file you imported into WH?
