I'm working on my insanity difficulty achievement. I've tried it before, but got frustrated and just switched over to veteran or something instead. Now I'm determined to play through it on insanity, to get that one last achievement that I haven't been able to get yet.

I'm starting up a new game, and importing a saved file from a previous play through. About five minutes into looking through the abandoned colony, I realize that the enemies seem awfully weak for insanity. Usually there's more challenge, even if it's just a mech. I check my game, and it's switched over to casual difficulty.

So I start over again, figuring maybe I didn't change it or something when I started up the new character (though I was sure I did). This time, I check the difficulty every few minutes. All through the Cerberus base, it's on insanity, and in the beginning of the next mission, it's on insanity. But after I finish off the handful of mech and move onto the next area, where there's some stairs, and a loki mech waiting on the other side with one of those fenris mechs. I checked the difficulty again.

Now it's back to casual. I can't figure out what's up. I made sure not to change it, I was careful not to. But now I've switched back to casual, and I won't be able to get my achievement like this...

I downloaded Lair of the Shadow Broker this morning. Could that be it?

This reminds me of Me1 that happened a lot, im doing the same achievement and the difficulty hasn't changed its not the dlc. People might change their difficulty to try and help you, dont do that lol.

I was thinking that maybe it had something to do with starting a new game after downloading the newest DLC... That's pretty much the only difference between this game, and the last time I tried to play on Insanity.

Okay, so one think I noticed was that none of the Mechs in the colony I visited had their armour, and I know they're supposed to on insanity. That was one of my biggest clues.

So, as an experiment, I went and started a whole new game, not importing any saves. The mechs have armour now, so I'm guessing it works.

Now I just have to play though insanity, starting a level one. Yay...

I do know that the difficulty level is stored in your profile, not in your save game. So changing your difficulty in any savegame of any career changes the difficulty of all savegames.

I hadn't changed the difficulty in between though, I started the game, changed it to insanity, and then it changed back to casual on me. I dunno what happened, but it seems like the problem is solved, thankfully. I'm still thinking that it has something to do with the LotSB dlc, because I was importing the savegame that I'd finished it on. Maybe the dlc glitched it up or something. Oh well.
