I finally got around to playing the DLC only to be presented
with one of the most difficult decisions in the game. I want to keep the data
because of the potentially valuable information it contains regarding the
connection between the Alliance and Reapers. However, it’s a little concerning
that the data will remain in the possession of Kasumi, a character with no ties
to Shepard other than the final mission and will probably not be part of the
crew in ME3 like Liara.

If it was certain that the Kasumi will keep close ties to
Shepard, then I can assume the data will only be accessible and useful for
Shepard. But, if Kasumi leaves on her own, then the information could be
potentially used by people with ulterior motives against the Alliance. Cerberus
was already able to track her down and so it seems like she would be open to
being captured like her boyfriend fears.

With that in mind, what decision did you guys choose and
why? Is it safe to let her keep it? Will she be part of the crew in ME3?

Delete it.

If it's information about us, it can only be useful to our enemies. Whatever the info is, it's known at Alliance HQ. Do the job they'd expect you to do, and make sure the stolen copy disappears.

I thought about that. But, the Alliance has been know to make some bad decisions which might put humanity in harms way. So, it could be useful for Shepard to learn what info the data contains so he can prevent anything bad from happening like the re-emergence of the Reapers.

So, no one else bought this DLC? I tried looking for similar threads but the search option sucks in this forum

I kept it. While it leaves Kasumi trapped in the past, I'd like to know what the hell the Alliance is doing if I'm going to be working for them in the future.

I kept the data because, who knows? It might give me a stick against someone when I need it, and Kasumi would have been so upset to lose it... :(

She takes it pretty well I think.

I kept it as well in all my playthroughs. Kasumi wanted it and it might help in the future.

I said keep it because My Shepard does not work with the alliance and could care less if they get hurt by the info or not

I feel the same way, but at the end of the day, the Alliance represents humanity. Thus, if the Alliance gets into trouble, it will more than likely mean that humanity as a whole would suffer some of the repercussions. Some of the other races already don't see humanity in the best light and it would take much for them to turn hostile towards them. And that were my doubt about keeping the data comes in. Even though the Alliance may be currupt, is that really reason to bring trouble to humanity as a whole?

Delete it. It's better for Kasumi.

I strongly suspect that your decision will result in some event in Mass Effect 3 if you import your character... I went with the paragon choice and let her keep it so she could at least find some comfort in it... will be interesting if it comes back in ME3 to bite me in the butt (which I suspect it will.. which would be cool).

Its data... why can't she get it and you keep a copy? Other than the fact the writers didn't give that option? Same with the Cerberus data, or Geth research, etc, etc, etc....

In Kasumi's case, it's the nature of the Grey Box technology. It isn't a USB port.

I had her keep the greybox because it's what she wanted. As far as her leaving for me she feels like a character that has nowhere else to go along with Jack it seems pointless to leave the relitive safety of being on the Normandy to go it alone. If Bioware had this happen with Kasumi it'd make her seem quite dumb and wreckless which she doesn't really come accross as in her character. Everything she does seems well thought out.

Shadow Broker Spoiler

After playing Lair of the Shadow Broker, I feel a lot better about letting Kasumi keep the gray box. The only threat would be from the council and their Spectres in possibly capturing her to get the info aside from Cerberus.

I deleted it. Not because of the potential harm it could do to the Alliance. It's just creepy having her in that room wallowing...

I understand your point  but the alliance needs to stand up for humanity more and stop being punks

Moraly in my first walkthrough I destoyed it. Then I my second walkthrough I kept it was about to re-destry it when I though it might cut away some options from ME3. There always going to be a opportunity to delete or rectify (at least minimilise) the damage keeping the gray box might have done either way. It`s not like ME3 is going to go "because you kept the graybox, Kasumi went mad shot everyone in the back with making you watch helpless and gave you to the lead reaper-you loose" Worst I expect having to shoot a few badies and maybe have Shepard apologise here or there.

I liked the ending. I had her destroy it, and when she did, and said "gomenasai" that made me really sad. It means i'm sorry in Japanese. I replayed from my last autosave and then let her keep it, though.

With my "main" (canon) Shepard (mostly Paragon, with some Renegade, although not a lot, just a bit) I let Kasumi keep the data, because my Shepard in that game (bit of role-play) believed that if Kasumi kept it for herself then it would stabilize her emotions for the real goal, to get rid of the Collectors. As for "living in the past" (keeping the data, memories, trapping Kasumi in her past and mourning the loss of her loved one as long as the data exists) it clearly isn't an issue, since the Dossiers in Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC reveals that she has a passionate crush for Jacob (she's writing poetry about him for crying out loud), so she's moving on in her life, while allowing her to stay emotionally stable by keeping the memories in the box for herself.

With my Renegade Shepard the data is destroyed though. It just depends on which Shepard I play, but that one I described above is my "main" one, the Shepard I'm considering canon for myself so that's basically the only decision that I truly like and agree with.
