I love the codex! Love it! It provides great information, but more importantly it provides stories within stories. It makes the game even more in depth and immersive; hooks me to the story more than other things could.

As others have said the only problem is the numbering system. I'd honestly love to a modder create a 'book shelf' type layout. When you open the codex you see a screen with a bunch of books; titles written on the sides. When clickin on one it opens up in a 'book' format with text on each side. For letters and notes there would be a single book for all with a table of contens you could use to quick jump with. I suppose it would be more of a folder than a book, but you get the idea.

Of course that would be a lot of work, but I would love to see it.

The main thing I would prefer is that informational entries - not ones directly related to quests and such - would remain unlocked permanently, instead of being unlocked on a per-character basis. This would make it much easier to read them as they come up, since only new entries would give you an alert. The main issue I have with reading them all as I find them is that as I play through the game multiple times, the ones I've already read on previous playthroughs keep popping up, so it's hard to be sure whether I've read it already or not.

The number system is also an annoyance, I agree. Why it wasn't in the form of a scrollable list (numbered if necessary, but with titles that I don't have to mouseover to see) I have no idea.

Yes i love the codex too, more lore and history which i like, but yes the number system was a little problem in that you could not easily find a specific entry that you were looking for

No, it's not. A little message appears in the corner that says "Codex updated". You click on it, and it takes you to the entry. Simple, eh?

How else would you like it done? Have the letter appear in full on the screen as soon as it's dicovered? Yeah, that wouldn't be too annoying.

I use it all time. I suppose if your a console gamer than it's just junk, but the codex is all about you learning about the world instead of pre reading a strat guide. The highlights on the codex menu as well as the highlight for entires works fine for me.

I think it contributes to the 80-100 hr game value vs 30 hr supper Mario mode.

Because OBVIOUSLY they are forcing you to read it all.

Seriously, wtf? If you don't like it don't read it, I didn't realize this was a difficult concept to grasp. And if you need the info for a mini sidequest, its not hard to find, its all in one area at the bottom of the codex.

How can one possibly "dislike" and complain about completely optional content which does nothing but enrich the game experience for those who are in it for the lore and otherwise doesn't get in the way in any shape or form? I mean, wtf?

I love the Codex but it could have been organized better. As with others, I dislike the numbered approach. =\\

This.  Graphical representations would have been nice, too.

And to the OP...  that is why the put the information in the codex.  It is not REQUIRED to complete the game.  It is provided as additional immersion if you CHOOSE to read it.

Yes! The Codex is great in concept, but it should be shaped more like a Tome of Knowledge, with a more presentable layout + some images, so that when you need a rest from 'regular' gameplay, or something has peaked your interest you can read about it more in-detail through accessing the codex item.

Allow me to agree with the general praise for the Codex, and the dislike for the numbering system. It's not terrible, but it's not great, either.

Oh, and thank you for not VO'ing the Codex. I hated that in ME. I can read far faster than someone can talk, and it was annoying having VO that was out of sync with what I was reading.

I love the codex. It adds a lot of interesting background lore that helps flesh out the setting. If you don't like it, dont' read it :)

EDIT: I agree that they should have spiced it up with images and used titles instead of the numbers.

I like it, but what they were thinking of the UI in numbering and not naming each article is beyond me.

I love all the information, but I agree that the number system is a little awful. They put so much effort into the writing and lore for this game, it's a shame that they made such an ugly and unfriendly UI to present it in.

Why, when we get an addition to the Codex, can't we just have a window open up with the info right there? Why is it that I have to leave the game screen and go search via the clunky Codex interface to find it.

If we had the pop-up window, and didn't want to read it, we could just close the window.

It was made much too cumbersome.

I haven't gone through and read the codex for the most part. as I find it irksome to read a page or two and have to stop till I find the next piece. However that being said I do get a kick out of exploring the levels/areas/instances for hidden pieces so that I can work on completing the codex sections and then go back and read them in a past tense of sorts in that I have "lived" the game and experienced it from first person point of view, then go back and read the codex, see what I missed, how what I learned relates to the past/present of the story line then go create a new character and play from there.

If that makes sense to anyone besides me?

Since we're talking about the codex, here's a question. I've noticed while doing The Stone Prisonner that there were codex entries to be found in these DLC areas. If the DLC was not active in my game, does it mean I wouldn't be able to find all codex entries ? If I don't buy Warden's Keep, can I still complete the codex ? Or does it expend to add more possible entries if you have DLC active ?
